Holy fuck, you guys really gave No Man's Sky a beating. I'd hate to get on Sup Forums's bad side, Jesus Christ.

Im an uniformed plebeian about the subject, was this game destroyed by normies? Was it good? / v/ surely hate it
I destroyed it with my penis.
I think the normies and leddit love it, I just haven't seen Sup Forums this angry since MGS V, Whether or not it's actually good, idk.
>was this game destroyed by normies
some of them
>was it good?
no, it failed to deliver on what they displayed in trailers, multiplayer aside (he never should've compared it to dark souls or journey), that was scummy
We have two sides: the nicest guy you'll ever meet, and your worst nigtmare
not as bad as starbound tbqfh
Every single trailer for this game hints at or directly shows features that aren't in the final product.
The original E3 unveil shows a giant rhino stampeding through a forest, causing the deer to herd together and run off. This suggests interaction between animals, making the planets and animals dramatically more interesting. There is no such interaction in the actual product, and nothing as dramatic and exciting on the planetary level as that rhino. Everything is dry and static. Instead, we just get derpy animals made of random parts waddling around, ignoring everything around them.
The trailer then takes off into space, and a formation of ships comes to aid you as you engage with fighters attacking an enemy fleet. The engagements in-game are such horribly stripped down versions of this that it hurts.
You then chase them off down into the lower atmosphere of a different planet, and engage with them there. Combat, of course, is not possible in the lower atmosphere of the finished product. It's all done to the far more boring and uninteresting backdrop of space.
The announcement trailer in Dec 2013 shows you walking up to a large crashed frigate, shooting a hole through an asteroid, shows a giant sand worm sliding through a desert, and shows a fleet jumping away from an attack. That's the exciting half of the trailer, and not a single one of those things is actually in the game.
That coupled with all of the interviews with Sean Murray sheepishly saying "Yeah" to questions about features that aren't in the final product that I don't feel like digging up, and do you blame the community for expecting more than was delivered?
>the nicest guy you'll ever meet
I've never met this side.
>I think the normies and leddit love it
fucking what
Jim Sterling and Dunkey destroyed the game, and then some other guy did a video about why Sean Murray is a piece of shit
>Im an uniformed plebeian about the subject, was this game destroyed by normies? Was it good? / v/ surely hate it
It was one of those experimental, niche titles. It had an A or maybe barely AA level budget, the team was pretty small, they depended heavily on some new procgen formulas to try to do something interesting, but the result was basically as anyone who actually read about it predicted: a better full auto emergent property procgen then previous attempts (distinguishing here from something like DF which is procgen but with an incredible amount of work put into careful modeling and such even at the most basic levels), but the small team meant the actual gameplay was pretty shallow, and of course it still suffers from the typical flaws that type of game does. Left on its own it could have been a solid 6 or 7 in the good sense, as in "most people won't be interested, but a niche will enjoy it quite a bit, and nobody really hates it."
Unfortunately it somehow triggered a ludicrous hype train, and the dev trying not to overpromise actually backfired because his being cagey and vague just meant people read that as a blank slate on which to apply all their wishes. People expected an 11/10, but got an average 6-7/10, plus the exact same normal version 1.0 issues that tend to come from a small team, so the backlash has been in equal proportion to the hype, and of course has spawned the typical endless shitpost trains to anything even touching it.
On the one hand it's kind of too bad and unfair. On the other hand, it really isn't more then a so-so autistfag game so not like it's some gem in the rough getting slammed either.
And this was just early access...
Go into non-vidya Sup Forums threads (No, seriously, they're SO much better than Sup Forums's "attempts" at video game "discussions") and everyone's real cool
its just a trailer bro, its meant to get you hyped
don't mess with us kid, for we are many, we are legion, and we will never forgive.
Was it Sony? Legit question. PS4 was/has been starved for games. Did they fund/rush the development of NMS, resulting in the current state of the game?
>IT'S JUST A TRAILER, BRO! XD IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE INDICATIVE OF THE FINAL GAME A T ALL!!!
why there was so much hype around this thing?
I don't think I even saw gameplay footage
Yeah, picture related is a "joke" whose humor comes mainly from it being pretty accurate. It applies somewhat to other topics too, so long as it's not Sup Forums shit which always instantly turns cancerous. That's not new though political talk has been causing fights probably for all of civilized human history.
Of course, by definition such stuff is off topic and liable to be instantly deleted so it is rare and can't ever really be the main topic, such is the paradox of quality. In fact a lot of the main boards get better then usual when discussing things that aren't their designated topics for whatever reason. Maybe there's just more people who aren't in the same old well worn ruts and sides.
>fund/rush
I suspect their influence gave them less flexibility over release dates. According to Sean, the game itself used in house funding though.
And we will insert our cocks into your ass little boy.
Sup Forums gets emotional when it comes to space sims, the closest thing to decent game we got in the last years was Rebel Galaxy.
And Rebel Galaxy was casualized trash.
>Sup Forums gets emotional when it comes to space sims
Man this takes me back to the buildup and aftermath of X Rebirth
What about Kerbal?
What about Kerbal?
Don't make promises you can't keep
Maybe, though for all Sup Forums gets up in arms about spessgaems (and in fairness with good justification) I've been disappointed about how few seem to have even given fs2open (via the fs2 scp) a spin, it's still an amazing game even all this time later and the updates over the years have been pretty great too. There's a ton of custom combat and MP potential even now. Dunno, sometimes it seems like people get so wrapped up in being mad that they just lose the ability to have fun even when there really is fun to be had. Just being $60 new doesn't seem like enough reason to me, since everyone knows it'll be 50-75% off within a year anyway.

I see, i can't blame sean , but he was retarded for giving such ambiguos answers
>Holy fuck, you guys really gave Jim Sterling's review a beating. I'd hate to get on No Man Sky fan's bad side, Jesus Christ.
>we gave it a beating
Sup Forums doesn't give anyone a beating. Sup Forums simply knows what's going to happen before it happens.
I've been on this board for almost 10 years now.
One thing I've noticed is that Sup Forums is always right.
I can fight them. I can disagree with them. I can do everything in my power to stop the ultimate truths of Sup Forums.
But Sup Forums controls the memes. Sup Forums controls the universe.
Sup Forums is logic. Sup Forums is time. Sup Forums is rhythm and rhyme
Sup Forums is Darwinism at its core. You will argue no more.
There's no reason to be afraid of Sup Forums's bad side, all anyone can do is type angrily.
that was gay
why don't you marry Sup Forums
>X:Stillbirth
Now THAT was a game that genuinely justified the level of hate it got. That was no brand new IP from some new team that was basically indy level but with some bigger backing, that was full on WE WANT THE CONSOLE AUDIENCE retardation in one of the worst ways.
I personally am actually even more eternally salty forever over "SupCom 2: WE WANT THE STARCRAFT AUDIENCE" which will make me mad until the end of my days, but that didn't seem to light quite the same fire here at the time. Maybe we just didn't have a critical mass of RTS players of that type, and there was a lot of genuine hope for sc2 back then too.
But the rape of the X franchise, holy shit. And every single new thing people found out just made it worse and worse, the devs just kept lying. The whole Xbox connection wasn't some clear mission statement it was found digging through the source, whereas with stuff like NMS duh it's a multiplat that was known forever. What a depressing abomination X Rebirth was.
I actually came here looking for this type of thread.
What would you guys like to see in any future update in hoping to bring some light back to this game?
Personally, i want to see events generated into the game, such as wars between races, events like meteorshowers on planets. You know, shit like that
Sup Forums Is just a Internet image board about posting Chinese Flip-book characters
ONE WORD
DOOM
i'd like the game they showed in their trailers
Fair
>but he was retarded for giving such ambiguos answers
Yes, he let things get away from him. It has all the hallmarks of an inexperienced and introverted/geek/assburgers dev who got in over his head, let marketing & PR take the reigns so he wouldn't have to deal with it, and then got into the shit even deeper. He needed to clamp down on expectations way way harder then he did, not let those trailers come out. As a tech person/dev he probably thought it was clear that prototype stuff might differ from the game but that's not how the world works anymore. You show it, you're on the hook with the public, even if you do say pretty promptly later "nvm that was too ambitious" which he didn't do enough of.
That's definitely his fault. At least maybe it'll be another good lesson about hype being dangerous as well as useful and spare a future game that is better then NMS.
sounds like MGSV all over again
To be fair between contextual kills and brown filters the trailers didn't exactly look promising.
It's nice to be wrong though.
Neptunia is the best thing ever though. Fuck Sup Forums.
>Make a video game thread
>Trying to discuss matters which have been discussed to death for fucking years with a community that spends 10-15 hours a day discussing the exact same points, arguments, counterarguments, hopes, dreams, details they love, details they hate, etc
>Surprised that people react in a manner that is pessimistic, hostile, or otherwise cynical, and feed off of reactions and general nonsense
If only you Redditors actually saw what happens when Sup Forums gets its hands on a new toy. The first month or so of Recettear was a blast. Literally just item shop loli pseudo-action RPG adventures. What's not to love? Same with Scribblenauts. All those threads of "OP MAKE THAT DINOSAUR ALSO ON FIRE AND SEE HOW WELL HE FIGHTS AGAINST A UFO!" Suddenly comes an OPEN WORLD CRAFTING SURVIVAL ADVENTURE #810414080 and you shills are in a state of awe at how Sup Forums reacted to this with a torrent of harsh mockery and jeering in regards to its state of development, as well as the constant stream of fuel being added to the fire as all of the developer promises repeatedly reveal themselves to be exaggerations or outright lies, and this pile continues growing day after day.
What did you cucks expect to happen? Did you really think Sup Forums would welcome this series of developer memes with open arms and praise? Did you honestly believe that another Open World Survival Crafting YOU CAN DO LITERALLY ANYTHING would not be showered with disappointed reactions, anger, and taunts?
Go back to your shithole and never return.
There is also the fact that sony bought it, inflating the price to 60 bux, consolizing it, and then giving it damming amounts of hype.
Had it retailed as a PC title for 30 bux first it would have been decent.
beating?
no
more like a wake up call.
this shit was absolute garbage, buggy as fuck and 100% unplayable.
i had launch day morrowind be more stable, i had early access alpha games be more bug free and polished, i have seen bugs and flaws in games marginally less glaring and obvious.
i want to play the game, i want to like it.
but it is not even playable, its not stable.
i want this game, but i also want something that could even maintain stable frame rates and not crash every time i try to open my invintory, or enter my ship, or interact with an object, or fire a laser.
where is quick saving?
nope, game crashed, better watch that completely unskipable opening cut scene, oh wait, that crashed, let me try that again, oh good, the audio is bugged out and on fast forward where everything sounds like alvin and the chipmunks, well at least i can walk around the surface of the planet. let me just adjust the fov, crash, how about open the container, crash, redeem the pre order ship, crash, shoot mining laser, crash, enter ship, crash, craft something, crash, stand there and dont move? ok, its stable.
yeah, fuck it, the dev is so lazy he wont get around to fix it, cant even be assed to put in muliplayer.
It's more like 5/10. The game is good for such a small team and great as a proof of concept, it's just not worth 60 bucks.
/r/NoMansSkyTheGame keeps saying "it'll get better later" or "I like the game, don't care what anyone else says"
Not kidding. Just go check it out right now.
...
The game would've been far worse if Sony hadn't dumped money into it. It'd probably be one of those PC cult classics.
But Sup Forums loves neptunia
It wouldn't cost 60 bux though, and it would probably be more stable because it wouldn't be a console port. There would also be less hype and thus less disappointment.
I suppose you're right
>FS2Open
Love screaming at the mic telling my wingmen what to do while I'm in some serious shit.
Freespace is the best space sim there ever was or will be.
Open world crafting is definitely getting tiresome. Playing a story can be much more fun than having to go out and find one. At least in one of the 80 zombie simulators there's the "humans v zombies" goal. In No Man's Sky it's just wandering. The only reason it's impressive is because the amount to explore has increased, but that doesn't give it any more depth than any other of these games.
This place is full of weebs.
Also how in the fuck is this serie still going ? How long can a plot about sexualized console girls can drag on ?
...
the only thing that killed it was no minecraft like multiplayer.
all the youtubers and babbys want to circle jerk with their friends.
As long as retards keep paying for it.
>not worth $60
I 100% agree with you. Actually contrary to first user I don't think it's worth $30 either, more like $15. But what about >Just being $60 new doesn't seem like enough reason to me, since everyone knows it'll be 50-75% off within a year anyway.
? At least as far as PC versions go I sort of lean towards this, particularly when it's mainly/totally an SP game. Except for some new MP thing once in a rare while, most of the stuff I play is at least a year or two old and it doesn't feel like I miss anything for that. I get the game fully patched for a fraction of launch price.
I mean, I get $60 launches are negative risks in terms of PR for some games, a lot of indy ones really do genuinely better starting at $20-40 because it helps keep expectations in check, and increased volume from more positivity might make up for reduced dollars anyway. But overall that seems weak by itself given how fast sales start to come. I bet it'll be at least 50% off by the holidays which is only 3 months out from starting to get going.
Shit I dunno, it's another area they could/should have been more clearly humble. They do want to make money though and there are richfags out there who can never wait, doesn't seem so wrong to try to get their fatbux. More honest then f2p and whales to me which doesn't seem to inspire much Sup Forums rage though it should because f2p is utter cancer.
But it has multiplayer! You'll just never meet anyone! Honest!
>people actually thought this game would be good
Anime that's dirt cheap to make but a core of weebs will pay for drags on forever. Profit margins in anime are so low that guaranteed profit will always be made, even if the profits are low and the show is forgettable trite.
It's so fucking good, it still blows my mind given the game launched in 1999 how well the community has been able to keep it up and how fundamentally well crafted the core remains even now. Although actually holy fuck what a time that was period. We had stuff like Starcraft in 98, FS2 in 99, Deus Ex in 2000, and a ton of other amazing titles, 1997-2001 was madness.
Except you absolutely can shoot holes through massive asteroids, and you can steal for your own large crashed ships, if you find the stuff to repair them like your first ship.
I have no idea, im just happy that it still exist
...
>i7

thank god i didnt buy this cucky shit
Nigga Sup Forums didn't do shit.
Sup Forums is shit and has a shit taste in video games. It prefers to discuss e-celebs and muh tortanics over actually good vidya. I had seen people unironically hate on La Mulana and NEO Scavenger.
Sup Forums is almost always wrong. The sole exception is AAA games being largely shit and it doesn't take a genius to figure that out. Nomansky is just another flat boring AAA title, diamond a dozen.
The shitposters have mostly moved on but for a good long few years user neptunia threads on Sup Forums were basically impossible they'd get spammed in such a dedicated way. You had to luck out with the right time of day and chance, and this was way earlier and even more niche then now.
>Also how in the fuck is this serie still going?
You answered your question, same answer as to why the shitposters back then were so hilariously impotent: weebfags actually PAY for shit in their niche rather then pirate it, at least enough of the time that even if the cash stream isn't big, it is dependable. Effect of not buying stuff for megafranchises is debatable and probably minimal, but it shows up for niches. Weebshit will continue to be made so long as it's profitable to do so.
I'll take your word for it. I'd like my in atmosphere dog fighting, environmentally aware animals, and a more active in general galaxy.
Imagine what kind of content we could create if we just all agreed to only buy good shit.
hell be fine
Sup Forums has awful fucking taste though.
I picked up starbound once it turned 1.0.
Seems like alot of the flak it takes is from people who have been following it's development.
Nu Male's Sky
>environmentally aware animals
The other stuff seems like it actually could and should be done. This though specifically, I wonder if this might be an actual compromise for consoles. Generating stuff up front via the procgen formula is one thing, and can be done async, but having a certain amount of AI particularly in terms of interacting with procgen terrain has got to consume a certain amount of CPU and memory. And while the PS4 isn't too terrible as far as GPU goes taking into account unified GDDR5 and optimization potential, the CPU is absolutely weak as fuck per core, and just because it has a bunch of them can't make up for that everywhere.
If that's the weak link then I don't see what can be done. Graphics is pretty scalable up and down vs power, and better UI and gameplay that's player-driven is doable, but anything that just genuinely needs a lot more CPU power? I just can't see Sony allowing the PC version to be vastly better then the PS4 one, even if they weren't anal about having it not be an exclusive in the first place.
Sup Forums is hardly ever right. MN9 and TORtanic and that's it. NMS isn't good but it's nowhere near as bad as it's made out to be either. It's the definition of a 5/10 game.
lurk more faggot
>if we just all agreed to only buy good shit.
Weebs do agree to buy good shit though, but obviously that's their definition of good. And in all seriousness there are good games that have pleasantly surprised people and been rewarded for it in the market, both in the east and west. Some groups just seem to have less of a propensity to put their money where their mouths are, though you can't say that about space sim fags at least, they're loaded for bear.
What is good shit anyway? Neptunia folks get exactly what they paĆs for, would you call that bad?
>10 million meme threads are a beating
>There is no such interaction in the actual product
Fucking dropped. Seriously how fucking hard would that be to implement?
I never did get why they targeted Neptunia as hard as they did.
do you by chance shop at publix?
>Seriously how fucking hard would that be to implement?
Probably really damn hard, particularly on a weakass console SoC, which is why it got dropped.
That doesn't excuse them for hyping people up about it in the first place though. Although if that was stuff from before Sony came on board wouldn't be the first time PC dreams died under the wheels of the console train. I still regret Halo.
hope they off themselves
NuMales make me sick
>The trailer then takes off into space, and a formation of ships comes to aid you as you engage with fighters attacking an enemy fleet.
If your standing with that alien race is high enough, they appear and help you out during pirate attacks. I was saved twice by the Vy'keen's.
Space sim fags are the new zombie fags and No Man's Sky is Day Z all over again. They'll die out after a few more disappointments.
Undertale
Me neither, it was actually just plain kind of weird after a certain amount of time because it was a tiny fanbase and the threads were pretty thin on the ground anyway and stayed contained to their own threads, it wasn't some meme. I mean, it was really, clearly unapologetically anime which in other places might be enough, but it's Sup Forums so where they fuck did people think they were? Dunno. SOMETHING really triggered them though because damn were they determined and relentless for a while.
THE NEXT CONSOLE GENERATION WAS SUPPOSED TO MEAN THIS WOULDN'T HAPPEN ANYMORE
At least tell me he is still the king of lies.
>everyones hyped for new trek mmo years ago.
>the shots were a scam the game company ran off with the publishers money.
>everyones hyped for star wars mmo.
>its overbudget shit
why are sci fi mmos so fucking cursed?
>They'll die out after a few more disappointments.
Or after one success. Like, SC doesn't have to deliver the whole persistent thing fully or whatever. All the real niche REALLY needs is a modern new foundation that's reasonably easily moddable. So say the whole major universe bombs like fuck, but SC still delivers the engine, assets, and private server potential as promised. The main fanbase will go to town with that and be happy for the next decade or two, just like with FS2. Or maybe Infinity can pull that off. At any rate though nobody needs a constant stream of new ones, the community can fend for itself with just minimal rehydration from time to time. Which I suppose actually makes it kind of a shitty niche to target from a business perspective maybe, you make a great game and no one pays anything again for 15 years and just have fun in their sandbox themselves. Though maybe premium content packs or the like would be worth something.
>No Man's Sky is Day Z all over again
Sean actually wishes it was the next Dayz
