Supposedly the NX is a tablet type thing, it has a dock you can place it in and play on a TV.

It's unclear how it splits apart. My guess would be screen and controller, while components and battery detach and go into the dock. It's claimed dev gets have a tegra X1. If full version has that it's dead. If it has a tegrax2 tablet SoC it might be passable. If it has a full custom design it could be pretty good, it should be possible to get close to the PS4 in a portable system if designed well.

This. One of the main reasons the current consoles perform like dogshit is due to the amd housefire curry tech that's in them. They have to achieve certain thermal and power consumption targets which everyone knows amd are shit at and hence why the gpu cores in both consoles are underclocked as fuck. If they had nvidia hardware they'd be so damn efficient they could probably even overclock the gpu without a massive hit to thermals and power. The only way I can see it surviving if it has a stock tegra x1 is if it is very cheap. $129 - $199 usd. Nvidia is showing their next tegra SoC on the 22nd of August. There's always a chance the NX uses it instead.

A far more likely concept would be a handheld that comes with a dongle like a Chromecast.
I doubt Nintendo is going to pay for higher performance hardware in a dock or static home console unit. They likely will maintain wireless streaming though, except now it will be done from the handheld to the TV.
Tiny dongle plugs into an HDMI port on your TV, NX handheld sends the video to it inverse of how the WiiU handles things.

So far the Wii U has failed on that aspect, and with the Wii I had to look very hard aside from Mario Galaxy 2. I just hope it delivers on that. I understand that there's a point to having better hardware but some of the most detailed games I've played didn't require such a great hardware. First I think it's more important to try to build something great that -can- take advantage of the hardware than just shoving more shit. I am definitely not impressed by -any- AAA release this year that so far requires something better than last gen hardware.
