I remember going into this game being really excited for a crazy excellent story and characters. I remember doing my first Affinity mission. It was Lin's first Affinity mission, and I sat through it and it felt so fucking underwhelming. I didn't want to admit it because at that time I was a fanboy of Monolith Soft, but deep down I wasn't satisfied by the writing or the dialogue. That first Affinity mission spelled out to me how shallow the story, writing and dialogue was going to be. The writing was almost at Pokemon levels of dull. It had that family friendly tone to it. The cutscene direction was almost non-existant. Something about the music felt too formulaic and predictable. The "emotional" track that played over sooooo many other moments in the game didn't feel like a good video game song, it sounded like an over sentimental J-Pop song and it got old really fast.
There's absolutely something missing that Xenoblade has that XCX hasn't got. I can't put my finger on it, but XCX is the first Xeno game story, music, and character wise that reminds me of FFXIII. There's something shallow about it and the story and characters and writing lacks passion.
If someone told me this was a Monolith Soft RPG, I probably wouldn't believe them.
Easton Diaz
It was my goty 2015 and i played it more than 200 hours. Preferred it to xc
Jaxson Flores
Me too
Luis Garcia
xenoblade is fucking garbage.
XCX had at least some redeeming features.
Joseph Gonzalez
290 hours so far. Keep changing up my build. There's something oddly addicting about building a character to take down a specific Tyrant that's been bullying you.
Just got Telethia to take down Twice, apparently, because killing it for that affinity mission doesn't count then I'll maybe start a new file in the Winter
Wyatt Watson
Uses to be a huge Xeno fanboy too, but XCX really fucking disappointed me. It feels like a very sell-out product where they prioritised a big open world and a more blockbuster mainstream pop style soundtrack over story and characters. All the character were pretty forgettable actually too. There were too many filler characters and they all amount to soldiers for hire with one or two silly character traits.
I loved the art direction and the freedom of exploration and all the character build stuff but the rest doesn't do much for me. Really underwhelming and disappointing product and it feels like a lot of its soul was sucked out. I can't trust the vision of a director who requests "commercial American rap" music for combat music.
Austin Wood
>I can't trust the vision of a director who requests "commercial American rap" music for combat music
Yeah talk about dumbing down your product. Takahashi is 50 years old now, he just wants to appeal to teens and families now.
Ayden Butler
The game was dead to me as soon it was censored I'm fine with just the soundtrack.
Gabriel James
Sawano fucking sucks man. Get some good taste and you will realise this. He writes the most tackiest, conformist shit.
Jack Peterson
>crazy excellent story >Xenoblade
Fuck off, Xeno games in general have abysmal story and writing, they're always generic J-Pop adventure ending in killing God, Blade being one of the worst. What actually makes Xeno games good is their setting, and how they use it and XCX is the most setting driven game of the lot.
XCX comes alive in its side stories were your working to build up the city and bring new people in, which run complete circles around Blade's abysmal side content.
Gabriel Jackson
Meme composer. He writes overly sentimental mawkish j-pop and butt-rock and rap rock. How can you take his music seriously? I literally thought the music in XCX was taking the piss out of the game, that's how cringe the music is.
Jayden Martinez
XCX is the most J Pop, sell-out Xeno game yet. Enjoy your short and thin straightforward story of generic anime sci fi, where characters are paper thin anime cutouts with bad anime dialogue and a world that has no lore other than "because Planet Mira"
Even the sickly Sawano music is fucking atrocious. It's the tackiest soundtrack I've ever heard in a JRPG. Worst Xeno game yet
Owen Price
> generic anime sci fi, where characters are paper thin anime cutouts with bad anime dialogue
That describes Xenogears, Xenoblade and Xenosaga too, you know?
Noah Jackson
It's because Xenoblad had a good story with memorable characters and XBX had you make your own character which I knew from the start would fuck everything up
Kayden Ward
At least they didn't have high school-tier consumer pop rock nu metal rap rock Animu weaboo soundtracks from Hiroyuki Sawano.
Adrian Cooper
Nice strawman.
Liam Brown
don't mind me, bros!
>NOPON taken out of XC for no reason whatsoever except in XCX it doesn't even make fucking sense because there is no nopon village, there is literally only five fucking tribes of nopon >every single story mission starts with the annoying girl genius loli threatening to cook tatsu >tatsu is fucking awful and unfunny >the story missions make up at most 10% of the game >the two characters you're stuck with FOR EVERY FUCKING STORY MISSION and a good portion of the affinity missions are annoying mary sue cunts >player character is an emotionless husk, they wanted to make a japanese fallout or witcher except they didn't put any effort whatsoever into the protagonist >most of the characters are meh >the storyline is generic sci-fi stuff, there is almost no plot development, it ends on a cliffhanger >the boss fight is absolutely retarded because for the last 50 hours you'll be relying entirely on your skell and then the boss can fucking wipe out ALL of your gas in one god damn hit >you can't heal or refuel your skell unless you load an hour old save >they literally expect you swim for 13-20 minutes to reach another continent (yes, i fucking did it and it took ages) >the quests are often garbage with very few good quests whatsoever >blatant 'muh racism' quests, like one where you force a xenophobic shopkeeper to let aliens into her store despite them making her physically uncomfortable >the whole thing reeks of 'muh immigration' 'muh cultural differences' >the aliens are all literally retarded >one species is a bunch of autistic cavemen >the other are tiny idiots with incredibly high pitched voices who are literally addicted to pizza >for whatever reason everyone can understand eachother as if they're speaking english due to the planet being "weird", but the cavemen aliens still sound like cavemen >the only good races are locked away behind sidequests
Kayden Myers
>that alex jones parody quest with the blatant "ALL ALIENS ARE EVIL" bullshit, ends up siding with the bad aliens because he hates the good aliens so much >tumblrina mary sue "alien equality" spokeswoman who gets martyred >remember how those tiny aliens are addicted to pizza? well, there's a quest where the owner of the pizzeria is a racist and hates them and is killing them off >one of the characters is a blatant manhater >her quest has her randomly approached by the most obnoxious possible "muh sexist" assholes >Lao is possibly the best character in the game due to having an independant, mild temperament >because humans are forced to use robot bodies and are going to be cloned and he believes that's a sick joke of an existence he betrays humanity to the aliens that forced humanity into that situation in the first place >you're forced to watch as the mary sue squad leader holds him at gunpoint for his betrayal which makes no fucking sense in-character >the final boss fight has him randomly try to redeem himself by attacking the final boss and then becoming a random, new final boss that's OP as shit >720p >the main battle theme is a fucking retarded black guy rapping (some of the other themes are nice though) >skells make ground combat entirely useless
John Morales
To this day I still have yet to put more than 2 hours into this. I went into this game with a completely open mind yet it immediately became apparant to me just how shitty this game was and I cannot make myself play it
John Flores
I still cant believe such a basic feature like volume sliders were not in the game, It's a standar feature that has been in jrpgs since forever.
I refuse to listen to that garbage sound track
Luke Taylor
>player character is an emotionless husk, they wanted to make a japanese fallout or witcher except they didn't put any effort whatsoever into the protagonist It pisses me off to hear people shitting on character customization as a "bad thing for story in gaming" when the fault of it in this entire game was just bad writing all over the place.
Matthew Flores
>continued To make what I said more clear: I agree with you completely.
Chase Myers
It's better than XBC just for the simple fact it's not generic as fuck shonen shit. I mean, it's still shonen, but nothing is more shonen than fucking Shulk
Jayden Edwards
The attempt to sound contemporary and trendy with XCXs OST just falls flat. Fuck simple pop Sawano. It's not good video music at all, it's just another trashy anime weaboo OST.
Samuel Campbell
>XCX >Not generic anime
Next minute you'll be saying XCX is da real Xeno game cus of da Skells and da sci fi.
Julian Russell
Did you even read the fucking post?
Joseph Jackson
It's not going to be Xenoblade Chronicles But Better, but it is Xenoblade Chronicles But Different.
The main story may lack impact, some of the affinity missions may lack impact. But other affinity missions shine brightly, and the sidequests in general are pretty fantastic.
>a manager/secretary only started helping a person because she expected to make mad money from it, and in the end sold her and humanity out to alien spies before killing herself >a nopon woman fucking makes a plushie and tries to pretend it's her child with the man she ran away with her husband with to try to keep him to stay when he discovers that he's a homewrecker (he didn't know before) >choices made in earlier quests may lock you out of some choices and endings in later quests, if not entire quests, and may change the entire tone, even >this even applies to affinity quests >when you make a choice to do something bad, you ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING FUCKING EVIL >sidequests sometimes even have more than two endings or paths, with a third one being unlocked by going out of your way to do something (warning the Orphe of Prone protectiveness of their trees beforehand, finding the ring so the lesbian cats can be together)
My main issue with the game is that many of the party members feel the same. There's not much reason to swap them out, especially given that you can learn literally all their classes and special moves. Playing with your main character is so much improved over doing so in Xenoblade Chronicles, the combat is just that much more satisfying in general, but it is not without weak points. ESPECIALLY with regards to Skells.
Skells are so disappointing, holy shit. They're cool, and I found them useful for one-shotting certain enemies, and grinding a certain rare material from a certain enemy, but they're so FRAGILE and FICKLE. Once I hit Overdrive on land, I'm basically invincible, while Skell Overdrive is shallow and largely down to chance and grinding.
Charles Rogers
No I didn't read it because your post is shit.
Joseph Bailey
Ebin reply pal. Maybe you should go back to ______
Landon Bailey
It's such a small thing but I fucking hate that every character has the same running animation. In Xenoblade, characters all had different running animations and that really gave them character.
Nathan Mitchell
I really hate that we couldn't put a cat or warrior caste orphe on our team.
