Wtf? I wanna play Tokyo Mirage Sessions but is the western release seriously this shitty? Also how bad is the censorship?

What's the problem bruh?
The Western version had a dungeon changed (and the story to go along with that dungeon), several outfit changes, and age changes.
Buy it used if you must play it. I'm not certain, but there may be a fanmade patch to restore it
Seriously who the fuck is in charge of this stuff?
How would I go about finding a fanmade patch for this?
>Buy it used if you must play it.
Why?
If pic related triggers your autism I suggest avoiding all japanese games for time being.
Nintendo of America won't get any support for its censorship if you buy it used.
> dungeon changed (and the story to go along with that dungeon)
To be more specific, the photos in the dungeon changed from swimsuits to whatever the fuck they were wearing and the event where she was put to supposed to be put sleep, shes frozen instead to remove any innuendos.
It was a really weird ass change
Do I need to have played any FE games to enjoy this? What if I haven't played a turn based RPG in forever? Is it gonna kick my ass?
Okay, now I'm definitely buying it new, just to annoy you.
wtf i hate tokyo mirage sessions now?
>pay full price for a game
>"heh, that'll show user"
Spending extra money to spite people sounds kinda silly.
Why does this game only pull from 2 Fire Emblems? Why the fuck is there 0 (ZERO) Ike in this game?
Why on earth does that matter to you?
>paying for a full retail game thats been butchered
Spotted the idiot.
I was on the fence about it, but when it's £40 new and £35 second hand, might as well just get it new.
Sure is. Welcome to Sup Forums!
>Arguing about video games online
What a retard
Because he lives in America or a country that can only get NoA games clearly
this is just like my SMT games
>I was on the fence about it, but when it's £40 new and £35 second hand, might as well just get it new.
I would do the same tbqhwy
because Ike isn't cool
It's not needed but it elevates your enjoyment.
The combat system is original with a modified version of the SMT combat system.
You can change difficulty setting at any time but if you just beat most encounters you should be able to beat every boss.
To everyone in this thread, don't dismiss a good game cause of the aesthetic and preconceptions
The gameplay is excellent and refreshing. The story is poor, but still on the same retard level as SMT4
I'm having a blast and the game grows on you
Also claiming Ellie
No
That doesn't really say much about whether you like them or not
Maybe
I'm a lazy fuck who's written about this a half dozen times so here's a pastebin I wrote for someone. Its not a direct answer to you, but it does have several reasons for it in there: pastebin.com
TL;DR: Giving NoA money for this tells them you support their censorship, thus helping aid them in doing this in the future. Censorship in general is harmful to the industry, and thus shouldn't be supported.
I'll reiterate.
Why does he care if Nintendo gets support from a different customer for something that HE disagrees with? He's forcing his views on someone else.
Actually though, is there any reason they only chose to use 2 fire emblem games? It's really disappointing to me
Because he has to stop the SJW menace from touching his games
>Censorship in general is harmful to the industry
Censorship is in nearly every game released in the last 20 years. You might as well say "never buy a game from a Western publisher".
You're right though, it was really rude of him to just assume you weren't a fucking retard like that.
Maybe they chose those two because they're the ones they liked the most
>Giving NoA money for this tells them you support their censorship, thus helping aid them in doing this in the future.
What's funny is that I don't think most people or Nintendo look at it this way at all
You should be glad. Now it's completely justifiable to pirate everything Nintendo makes for the rest of time.
Based NoA
>TL;DR: Giving NoA money for this tells them you support their censorship, thus helping aid them in doing this in the future. Censorship in general is harmful to the industry, and thus shouldn't be supported.
You know, I'm going to have to see a source for this. Why do you think Nintendo think this way? What has caused you to assume this?
>Supporting what is essentially a left wing version of fascism
Wew lad
What did the original say if you're upset about this?
do you really expect them to know or care
Bought the limited edition thingy.
The game's really good if you're in to Atlus JRPGs.
This.
It seems like people forget that games were even more censored in the "golden age" of gaming
That's always been a problem with an industry where many games come from Japan
I played #FE and I can say that there's only been one scene that missed its intention due to the censorship
I shrugged for a bit but then went on with playing a good game
Censorship doesnt make a game bad. It makes it a different game.
You still have to rate/judge the different game on what it has, not what it's missing
>being a consumer who is displeased with receiving a game with censored art, lazily altered character designs/outfits and in the worst cases entirely removed scenes is being an evul fascist boogeyman AND a left winger simultaneously
You are actually seriously retarded. Kill yourself.
>Strawmanning like a mad cunt
You finished?
Not really. There are plenty of games that haven't been censored. Though there are quite a few censored games as well. In the last 6 years, the censorship I'm aware of is:
>Mugen Souls
>Mugen Souls Z
>Criminal Girls: Invite Only
>Criminal Girls 2: Party Favors
>Bravely Default
>Bravely Second
>Fire Emblem Awakening
>Fire Emblem Fates
>Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE
>Xenoblade Chronicles X
>Fatal Frame 5
>Dungeon Travelers 2
>Tera
>debatably Street Fighter 5 depending on how you view games changed during development
>debatebly Star Ocean 5 depending on how you view games changed during development
There's also some other MMO I forgot the name of.
You're exaggerating my viewpoint. If you don't care about the changes present, who am I to stop you? Think of my saying "Buy this game used" as a request rather than telling you what to do.
I don't have a source for that. Its purely based on the assumption that companies look at lost sales and try to figure out why they lost sales, which thus may lead NoA to have better future releases. Often the phrase is said "vote with your wallet" as a means of telling companies what you like and want and what you don't. Its entirely possible NoA wouldn't look at a lost sale and think "maybe it was because we censored it", though it helps if you also send an email to them or let them know directly why they lost a sale. I sent an email to them about Xenoblade Chronicles X a while back, so at the very least I can say that they know why they didn't get my purchase.
>You're exaggerating my viewpoint. If you don't care about the changes present, who am I to stop you? Think of my saying "Buy this game used" as a request rather than telling you what to do.
Well to be fair, your quote was "Buy it used if you must play it." That's more a demand, than a request.
Are you finished saying stupid shit? Cause if you are then I'm finished with whatever it was you thought was a strawman in that reply (I was only repeating everything you said in greentext form).
As an experimental spinoff they needed the most popular characters from the FE franchise, and all of them happen to be from the Marth franchise (FE1-FE3-FE11-FE12) in japan or Awakening everywhere else.
They have already said that they want to make a sequel to it, so if it ever happens you can expect characters from other FEs. Maybe. It's wishful thinking.
>Being this mad
Yeah you're done.
Didn't the game "flop" in Japan though? Is a sequel even likely?
>Not really. There are plenty of games that haven't been censored
It depends on your definition of "censorship". I believe that anything other than a direct translation of the complete Japanese text is censorship, because the publisher and localisation company believe my western cultured upbringing isn't good enough to grasp their complex eastern ideals. By my definition, yeah, I'd say nearly every Japanese game is "censored" when a Western publisher takes hold of the translation and changes things.
Which is why I either play in Japanese from an import if I can be bothered, or just accept it and play the english version because it really doesn't bother me all that much, I just don't agree with localisers changing shit when I have a good understanding of Japanese culture.
Is Virion really one of the most popular FE characters? Out of the whole cast he seemed to stand out as a strange pick. Was there just no better archer pick from Marth's games?
No, it's just Sup Forums being retarded at understanding how the industry works. It sold just fine.
Not really, but it didn't sell a shit ton either
>Cause if you are then I'm finished with whatever it was you thought was a strawman in that reply
>being a consumer who is displeased with receiving a game with censored art, lazily altered character designs/outfits and in the worst cases entirely removed scenes is being an evul fascist boogeyman AND a left winger simultaneously
Yes, that's a strawman argument, given the OP said
>Supporting what is essentially a left wing version of fascism
in response to a comment telling him what to think and believe
tl;dr, you're a retard, kindly fuck off and let us discuss this like gentlemen ;)
I never understood this. When they see that people didn't buy the game, they're not going to say, "Whoa, if didn't censor it then it would have sold a lot more." they're going to think, "Well, I guess the audience just doesn't like this kind of game."
Because while the censorship is bad, its also a really minor part of the game. The gameplay, story, and characters are all the same. Like, people talk about how they changed a dungeon, but all they changed were pictures on a wall in that dungeon. The new costumes look bad, but its not like they're an important part of the story that get shown off throughout the whole game. The censored stuff is minor, so most people wouldn't consider it to be a huge influence.
When they see that the game sold well, they're not going immediately assume that the minor details are to blame.
If you don't want to buy the game, that's fine. But the message being sent isn't going to be about censorship.
Ok that's good, I can never tell anymore. Thanks for clarifying. I'd like to see what they can do with a sequel. This was the digital devil saga team right? I don't think I'll ever doubt them again after seeing how this turned out
Would you really want to see Hector or Ike or the actual good FE games / characters get dragged down into this?
>I never understood this. When they see that people didn't buy the game, they're not going to say, "Whoa, if didn't censor it then it would have sold a lot more." they're going to think, "Well, I guess the audience just doesn't like this kind of game."
Yep.
While the original poster might think he's helping, unless Nintendo has directly stated somewhere that this is how they look at shit, then their thinking on the subject is twisted. They aren't going to look and say "whoa, only 100k sales in America! It must be all that censoring!", I imagine they're going to take one look at the figures and say "I guess NA doesn't want JRPGs. Noted."
Fair enough. I don't think localization inherently means censorship. For me, I just see it as that when content is outright removed completely or intentionally toned down.
What if I send an email to NoA explaining why I don't buy their game each time they censor it? Would that not be more direct in sending Nintendo a message to not censor in the future? I had figured the same thing, which is why I think its also important to let companies know why you don't buy a game.
I mean, if anything they would elevate it for me. Hector would have been way better than Draug for me personally
>I believe that anything other than a direct translation of the complete Japanese text is censorship
Really, because I think that would just obscure, or rather censor what's actually being said
>Would that not be more direct in sending Nintendo a message to not censor in the future?
Maybe if you truly believe you're that important
>Fair enough. I don't think localization inherently means censorship. For me, I just see it as that when content is outright removed completely or intentionally toned down.
It depends on what your definition of "content" is. If it stops at gameplay or aesthetics, fine, but my definition goes towards the text, story, references, etc.
And you know what? That's fine. I just don't understand the crusade against "censorship" on here when really the vast majority seems to be complaining about the aesthetics of the game being different.
He wasn't getting told what to think and believe he got ADVISED by someone to avoid giving NoA money when they buy the game and he got butthurt about it and said "WHY U TELLING ME WHAT TO THINK DON'T TREAD ON ME I ACTUALLY LIKE CENSORSHIP" before anyone started calling him a retard if you read the posts in order it looks like he was saying being anti-censorship was left-wing fascism
Meet Gordin, the faggot LITERALLY EVERYONE sacrificed in the paralogue.
Meet Tomas, the ugly cunt.
Meet Norne, the optional character no one got and one of the most unremarkable characters in the sequel.
Meet Raian, Gordin's fucking little brother.
Add to that the fact that the games they're in have huge maps, mounted units have like 12 movements, regular units 5 compared to archer's 5, and you get a clear idea of why Virion was chosen.
...
>Really, because I think that would just obscure, or rather censor what's actually being said
If you understand the context of the scene, you should get it. If you're happy with the text being changed and things being dropped, that's cool, but I'm not. A lot can be changed or added from a localisation standpoint that has nothing to do with the original writer.
user.
>Buy it used if you must play it.
That's a demand, not a suggestion. Stay mad.
>When they see that the game sold well
Er...when they see that the game sold poorly, is what I meant to say.
>If you understand the context of the scene, you should get it
But then why are you playing it in English then?
regular units 7*
>But then why are you playing it in English then?
I usually don't. If a console isn't region free (3DS/WiiU) I'll just buy the English version because, as I've stated earlier, it doesn't actively bother me that much, but I'd like to avoid it where possible.
Why even play the released version when you know that the writers original vision was changed due to corporate cats not liking its appeal?
I already answered you here though: Its not meant to be taken as a demand.
Reminder that Elly is best girl
>Its not meant to be taken as a demand.
Well it was, so whatever son
Meant to reply to
Tsubasa is best girl because she's autistic, impressionable, and you just know you could talk her round to all kinds of kinky shit when you eventually get her in to the bedroom
Jesus how autistic do you have to be to get defensive about the omission of "you should" on a post like that. There's nothing at all in that post that indicates he's demanding fuck all
>There's nothing at all in that post that indicates he's demanding fuck all
>if you must
Guess you should just play stuff in their original language if that's what you think
nintendrones will support anything nintendo shits out and will come up with the most retarded justifications for it
pretty funny tbqh familia
Japan has a massive Marth boner so that means the Marth games and Awakening because it's on the same continent. There are npcs from other FE's though like Ilyana, Aimee, Cath and of course Anna.
The problem here is that no one, not even Nintendo, particularly expected this to break any sales records. If it bombs, they just write it off and keep it moving.
The other three censorship chimpouts of the last year failed for similar reasons.
Fatal Frame V's low sales were attributed as much to the digital-only American release and complete lack of advertisement as to lost sales from censorship.
Conversely, Xenoblade X sold enough that Monolith Soft considered it a "success", despite its modest numbers.
And then there's Fire Emblem Fates, where goodwill from Awakening combined with Corrin's surprise appearance in Sm4sh allowed the game to smash series sales records, taking the sting out of any boycott threats.
Voting with one's wallet works, yes, but just remember: you're not the only one at the ballot.
>hey user, pass the salt
>YOU CAN'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO I HAVE RIGHTS AND YOU'RE A LEFT WING FASCIST
>ok then
Jesus christ, m8 you must be some kind of next level pussy if you get triggered by some user not saying "could you please" before their sentence in a post on an albanian faberge egg BBS.
I don't disagree
It's because NoA doesn't want to localize anything that takes effort and isn't Zelda or Mario.
That's why they bloated their localization budget by doing unnecessary and also inconsistent changes. So that the target audience gets triggered, doesn't buy the game so that NoA can say "look nobody wanted this here anyways, give mario"
Xenoblade was localized by NoE for several languages and NoA still bitched about having to localize it even though they wouldn't have to do any work anymore
Remove NoA
>Conversely, Xenoblade X sold enough that Monolith Soft considered it a "success", despite its modest numbers.
Didn't it outsell the first Xenoblade in a lot of Europe by like 40%?
>if you must
If you weren't dumb you would've just gotten pedantic about the absence of a "you should" in the sentence because that's literally the only thing wrong here, i.e "if you must buy it, you should buy it preowned" is that less fascist for you?
are you having a stroke
>Still going
You done?
Their audience is filled with kids. That's why stuff like Metroid doesn't sell or RPGs don't get localized.
>70k copies sold
BLUNDER OF THE CENTURY.
>That's why stuff like Metroid doesn't sell
10% of GC owners own Prime. That's over 2 million sales.
In fact, Metroid is largely a million seller. It sells pretty well.
>unique post count goes up
>still going
Yes, I am still laughing, I've been laughing ever since you made it clear just how much of a vagina and an idiot you are.
Now tell me the sales for the later games
k?
>30k for first two weeks in Japan
>50k for first week in USA
I take it math was your worst subject in school?
Prime 2.8 million
Echos 1.4 million
Corruption 1.8 million
Hunters 1 million
Zero Mission 0.9 million
Fusion 1.6 million
Other M 1.4 million
Metroid doesn't sell because of there are better games, it's not a fucking conspiracy
B-but those are my favorite video games!
That too
To put it in perspective btw
>Metroid 2.6
>Metroid 2 1.7
>Super Metroid 1.4
