I'm looking to build a new computer and, unfortunately...

I'm looking to build a new computer and, unfortunately, it needs to have a Mac operating system so I can use Final Cut for work so I'm limited in compatible options. How is a GTX 950? I'm not expecting the best but I would like to run Final Fantasy 14 at 4K 60fps. How possible is this?

Also, I'll be installing Windows on a separate hard drive but I don't have the money to build two different computers.

>950
>4K anything
Kill yourself

why do you have to use final cut? don't they let you use non shitty editing software?

Not even close then? How about 1080p 120fps? Or at least 1080p 60fps?

Not even the latter.
950 is a low end budget card.

Listen, 950 is a low-end budget build card, meant for 1080p, ~medium setting gameplay, at 60fps, in many games.

If you want to get even close to those speeds, get GTX 1060.

I have no fucking idea why'd you need gazillion frames in an MMO though. 4K is literal meme too.

You need a 1060 or better

Seriously, get yourself VR ready because only a few years from now everyones gonna have a vive.

Unfortunately not. I can use Adobe Premiere and Avid well enough but I'm stuck with Final Cut just because it's easier for most people. I wouldn't be so pissy about it if it wasn't stuck on Apple products. If I'm gonna work from home, I need to be able to run Final Cut.

>it needs to have a Mac operating system
jesus christ.
Thank fucking god you can always DUAL BOOT if necessary.

And no, 950 already struggles in some latest, modern titles at 1080p.

Ah for fuck sake, this is depressing.

>I have no fucking idea why'd you need gazillion frames in an MMO though. 4K is literal meme too.
Not necessarily for FF14, per se, but it is what I'm currently playing a lot. I'd also like to try Doom 4 sometime too.

>950 already struggles in some latest, modern titles at 1080p
Man, this is some bullshit. I've been using this as a guide:
tonymacx86.com/buyersguide/july/2016#CustoMac_Pro
And it only lists the 950 as compatible with Mac Pro. Should I just get any graphics card? I'm afraid it won't be compatible.

Why would you waste money on old tech garbage?

Whats that? Its cheap and it'll work fine for you now?
What about in a year from now when its garbage?

Shell out the extra $70 and buy something better that will last 2+ years longer. You think you're saving money buying budget shit but you're not.

I just replaced my 960 with a 1070. What should I do with the 960? I was thinking of upgrading a gen 2 i3 to a gen 2 i7 to give it a home.

Wanna build my first PC.
I have a Microcenter nearby.
I want to make something that's cost effective but still runs new games decently.
Wanna stick to $600~

Parts I'm leaning towards
>Intel Core i5-6500 6M Skylake Quad-Core 3.2 GHz(hear more than this is overkill)
>RX470 or RX480(but where can I find them in stock?)

I have no idea how to choose:
>power supply
>motherboard
>case

Will wait on good sales for
>harddrive/ssd
>ram

Pls help on how to choose power supply and mobo.

I'm not specifically looking for shitty hardware. Unless I'm mistaken, I believe that Mac OS won't run unless it recognizes compatible hardware. As such, I'm looking for shit that runs in a Mac Pro. I wish I could get something stronger but I don't want there to be compatibility issues.

GTX 950 is an amazing little budget card, that can RUN just about any game out there, all while it takes all its minimalistic power from the PCI-E socket alone. It can run stuff like GTA5 on 1080p, Very High -preset, at ~35-40fps average, and Witcher 3 at Medium / 30-35fps.

Obviously FF14 ain't even close to those requirements, and D44M runs on literal console tech decently (the game sucks ass tho), but you're not gonna UHD anything too smoothly on it, unless you severely drop settings.

You're not going to Max out games like Witcher 3, Crysis 3 and such on it. Meanwhile, something like MGS5 and Talos principle probably are gonna run just great on High settings.

Really depends on the game, but 1080p/60fps is the best you should expect from 950.

>What should I do with the 960?
sell it.

Also, you can use gen-3 i7 in the same socket too. You just need to update mobo's BIOS.

Forget what you just posted why didnt the cunt in the webm just crawl on her stomach.

>anime...

Google "nvidia pascal cards hackintosh" and see what people are saying about it?

Well yeah,
>anime
but also, the rules of limbo prevent you from approaching face down.

You're screwed, bro. You'll need a GTX 970, minimum, to run modern games at 60 fps with maximum graphics. But that's only at 1080p.

For 60 fps at 4K, you'll need a GTX 1070, minimum. You're utterly insane if you think you're doing any kind of 4K on a 960.

Why the need to run Mac OS on native hardware? Can't you just set up a VM or something?

>OS X 10.11.0 to 10.11.6: None
>OS X 10.10.0 to 10.0.5: None
>OS X 10.9.0 to 10.9.5: None
>The list goes on, pascal (Which means GTX 1080, and 1070) have no support in OS X at all! If you are a die hard, then by all means go and enjoy a low resolution, crumby performance, and no HDMI audio, etc.
Just kill me now.

Thanks for the tip. I'm completely new with PC building so I'm willing to take any sort of advice. I'm going to keep searching for different cards that are Mac compatible.

>What should I do with the 960?
Use it as an HTPC, it has HDMI 2.0 support so you can play 4k content.

A VM is always an option but I'd much prefer native support whenever possible. I'm just looking at my options for now.

Now google "maxwell cards hackintosh" and see what people are saying about it.

Out of curiosity why does your place of work prefer final cut over something like premier pro?

>Can't you just set up a VM or something?
I believe OP would need to do GPU passthrough for that depending on what he was working with. So I guess it depends if he has the autism to set that up.

It seems like it does work with experimental drivers, but nothing native. It's certainly a step in the right direction though and a better option than the 950.

If it can't look much better than my PS4 then I feel like I should just stick to consoles and save myself the trouble. On the other hand, if the EVGA GTX 980 or GeForce GTX 980 are significantly better than what consoles can do then I'm going to keep looking into this.

The 980 is significantly more capable than consoles like the PS4.

Like I said here:
It's just easier for most of my coworkers to use. My boss also seems to be a Mac fanboy but I wouldn't say that's the reason.

980 was the high end card of last gen.
I own an EVGA 980 SC, it OC's well and I can easily run Witcher 3 on ultra+ at 1080p with hairworks while maintaing 60 fps most of the time.

They also don't play the same games.

>they play everything that matters

Fuck off.

Well, I'm going to keep pushing forward then. So, Pascal cards seem to be pretty much out of the question. How long should a Maxwell card last me? Are they already on the way out? Aside from Doom 4 and Witcher 3, there aren't any demanding PC games I want to play that come to mind, expect for Civilization 6 but I'm ok with playing what is basically a board game at medium settings.

At the very very least get a 960, but even that is for medium/high level settings if your aim is to game at 60 fps.

>4K
Nope

Just head to logical increments Ind find the build close to your budget so you have a starting point.

>They also don't play the same games.
Nobody said they did, and my post was operating under the assumption he wants to get a PC/hackintosh, which is the point of this thread. You console/PC war retards just can't help yourselves.

Since this is a Sup Forums thread, let me ask.

Looking for an laptop that can play vidya on an okay level in the 1000$-1400$ range. So far my research indicates that the Lenovo IdeaPad Y700-15ISK is one of the better ones for that price range (i7, 16 gb RAM, GeForce 960M) but I open to suggestions. Thanks in advance.

You can't game on a laptop.

Laptops are only good for older games and mobas. Literally only good for when you have to attend the yearly summer family gathering and you need laptop full of anime and grand strategy games to get through it.

logicalincrements.com/laptop

>laptops with good CPUs and 960Ms for as low as 800$

You americans have it so good, I'd never find anything with specs like that for lower than 1k euros.

I just bought refurbished pc, while its not too impressive its leagues better than what I was with before. Now theres a game I want to play and it seems I need to get a better graphics card. So what is a not newer but better than the card I have now?

It might be better for you to use a "cheaper" mac laptop and game on a desktop

Maxwell is going to become legacy, depends on the card

Just buy yourself a nice Mac laptop for work. Then save your money and build yourself a better desktop.

If your job doesn't pay you enough to do that, learn more portable programs and free software. It will help your employability at better companies if you can use a variety of tools on a number of platforms.

>motherboard
Just get something compatible with your gpu
>Case
same thing basically, since youre getting high end cards, get a slightly larger case
>psu
650 will be plenty good for just about anything, don't believe psu calculators, the overestimate wattage like crazy

380x if you want something cheap that runs well
960 if you want nvidia, or you want something cheaper
290/970 if you can shill out a bit extra

Is water cooling a meme?

Thanks

How's the 380x compare to the 470? I've seen it for sale for less and benchmarks that put it well above the 380 cards.

What's the name of that software you use to show up everything? I thought It was people using something with win10 and I seen it a lot in Sup Forums

I feel your pain OP. I know what it's like to be constrained to something you don't want to use. But I'd use a shit Mac mini for final cut and build a good pc for myself.

Nvidia are such pieces of shit. The 950 would be a decent card if it had 3GB.

Speccy

thanks I didn't want to ask in sqt on Sup Forums

If you want FFXIV 4k 60fps, you'll need a GTX 980Ti, 1070, or 1080. Sorry m8. That said, I run it at 1080p 60fps with an FX-4200 and R9 280 3GB at a mostly solid 55-60fps, so

Sorry if its asking too much but can I get the full names of those? I don't know what I'm googling with numbers

Just get the 950 and the strongest card you can afford. Swap them out whenever you're forced to use Mac OS. It'd only take a couple minutes and (for now) the drivers should be compatible.

amd r9 380/290
nvidia gtx 960/970

Thanks agani, sorry for being a retard

4k 60FPS in FFXIV will require a GTX 1080 MINIMUM. It's a demanding game.

Get your employer to pay for a MacBook Pro and build a gaming PC.

960 here. FFXIV at 1080p, max settings @60fps.
Its completely fine for everything at 1080p nowadays, but expecting it to fall behind in 1-2 years.

>It's a demanding game.
The opposite, its pretty lightweight, mmo graphics done right. But yea if OP wants 4k, the best shot is the 1080/1070.
