Probably, you can really argue about it because really great musicals are all 11/10 fantastic. But I think it really helps that its a comedy and it's so consistnatly good. A lot of musicals have great songs but a filler plot or a couple of crappy songs no one really likes, but Rocky Horror is really interesting and has really great music the whole way through.
My girlfriend and childhood friend were in the chorus so I thought I'd give it a shot. There were actually a lot of people I knew there because there weren't enough men for a men's chorus and it ended up being mixed. Singing with other people actually feels really great, especially when you get harmonizing.

No, it's because it's weird and quirky, which gets people that actually want to come off as weird to do it. They have a lot of fun because singing with others is actually enjoyable. However, these people don't do that normally and chalk it up to being exclusive Rocky Horror. They then get obsessed with it and try to get their friends to join in, even the ones that don't want to be weird and quirky. Eventually, normal people try it out and, because they don't sing or anything either, they think it's fun. Additionally, these people get that intoxicating yet slightly uncomfortable feeling that comes from doing something totally new and foreign, like deciding to dance in front of a large group and finding it's not nearly as embarrassing as you imagined. The whole thing runs in a cycle of people getting others to partake in it. The only people I've ever known to be immune to it fall in two categories. First, there are people that regularly engage in singing/acting. These people might try out Rocky Horror, but it's nothing special to them. In fact, the strange nature of the content usually turns them off of it after they try it out (unless they are one of the weird and quirky types mentioned earlier). The second group are people like some of the anons in this thread that see the show as something so degenerate that they avoid it entirely, and often avoid anyone that enjoys it.
