Can someone explain the appeal of these games aside from "muh greek myths" or "muh violence"...

Can someone explain the appeal of these games aside from "muh greek myths" or "muh violence"? The gameplay is shallow and boring, the enemy are bland and overly difficult, the puzzles are retardedly vague and story simple as hell.

Not to mention the terrible camera

Redpill me on GoW please.

ps2 games were good for their time

It's a hack n' slash aimed at casuals, that's about it.

Press buttons.
Cool shit happens.

Can you explain me the appeal of videogames?

Muh spectacle

>terrible camera
camera was one of the most praised things about GoW. try again.

product of its time

It was good for its time. It's still pretty okay. The QTE implementations it had were at least well implemented, and a bit more original at the time.

It's fun to execute all the repetitive combos with the weapons. The ludicrous gore makes it stand out from other games, especially because of its setting.

>enemies are bland and overly difficult

No. The games aren't 10/10 GOAT, but they are objectively pretty good.

>the enemy are bland and overly difficult
If you're bad, I guess. How are they difficult? Even on the highest difficulty settings it's literally just that you just have to play well. They don't cheat, they just require you to get your timing down properly, and be consistent about it. When you fuck up, you get punished.

The infinite cerberus fight is one of the worst vidya fighs ever created

Anyone else disliked those chain knives he had?

They just felt so dainty and unsatisfying.

Muh greek over the top gore violence.
Is a good game, and the revenge story was good too. Is a great angry simulation, the only problem is gow 2. It make some good gameplay changes and extras, but level desing and some enemy are pretty downgrade and kratos was kinda more overreacting.

>chain knives
No they are objectively the most fun weapons in the games.

But was this among them? I don't understand how it got fucking perfect scores in its day.

The camera is aimed at being cinematic and is likely one of the causes or at least the foundation for sonygger posting:
>movement direction always changing whenever the angle changes
>angles can be downright disorienting due to the sudden change
>important info about location can be missed due to the automovement

What about that one room in pandora's temple where you have to defeat all the enemies before the floor collapses? All those fucking harpies, that DO cheat. If you dodge the suck-in attack, you still get sucked in.

So many of the enemies are just reskins of other enemies. There's maybe 6 unique enemy types IN total, not including bosses (who were all conceptually weak and predictable).

Is better than the sword of olimpus, heck, 3 put 2 variables of the exact weapon

Sex
The GoW fanbase was mostly composed of horny junior high students who wanted to see blood and sex

Kratos is a fucking badass who doesn't afraid of anything. Nu-males are of course triggered by so much masculinity.

Tight controls, great dodging system and varied enemies? What's not to like?

It's not a complex game but that doesn't mean it isn't fun.

I think they are interesting and definitely more creative than just a sword or something, but in game they feel so damn unsatisfying to use. They have no impact or oomph to them most of the time. Feels like you are swinging a ball of paper on a string around.

>I did it again mom! I posted "nu male" again, and this time outside of a NMS thread! Do I get a tendie now?

It's supposed to make you feel like a badass, if it's not working, the games aren't for you also trying a harder difficulty could work

Nigga, did you beat the game? And in which difficulty?

Kratos is probably the most close thing to "Epic Greek Story" with really big shit happens with gore everywhere.
There aren't much titles that give that feel off especially with Greek's supernatural shit.
Another similar title would Spartan: Total War but it goes into another sort of story (still fun as fuck, fucking MEDUSA CANNONS)

I'm not sure either. I enjoyed the first two when I played them, but by the third game I'd lost interest in the gameplay.

Then execute the right combos. When you press triangle after a few hits he'll hurl them on the ground with massive camera shaking, implying great impact.

I know, I said most of the time.

You still spend way more time slashing those little things than you do smashing them in the ground.

Anyone else hoping they don't tone down the gore in the new game? Fuck sjws.

I'm at least 60% through it. I was on regular but then I switched to easy because one room was unbeatable because of an invisible timer and bullshit enemies.

They're just solid games. No they're not the best, not the most enjoyable games. But they give you a solid experience.

You're an angry guy who rips people apart set in Greek Mythos. Easy, done.

You can play through it in a sitting or more and not give a fuck about anything.

It's fun killing things
2 > 3 > Ghost of Sparta > 1 > Chains of Olympus > Ascencion
Am I right?

I fucking LOVE Lance of the Furies

I haven't played Ascension for so far it looks like the perfect chart.

The irony.

God of war 4 kratos is a nu male

>edgy excessive violence
>one note brooding ultra aggressive character throughout the entire series
>mash muh buttons to get kill
>big titted women want to have sex with you at all times

it's a 15 year old's power fantasy, it's no wonder Sup Forums has a hard on for it. also it's made by the biggest shitlord autist of all time

>ITT
>young people who didn't play a game that shaped the industry when they came out

GoW was never designed to rival the best character action games. It was supposed to be epic and brutal and was targeted at a casual audience. It succeeded at what it wanted to do ergo it's a good game.

>movement direction always changing whenever the angle changes
No it doesn't you keep on moving forward if you hold down the stick. You're completely over exaggerating how bad the camera is, just as you are with "hurr 6 different enemy types". Yeah there is recoloring going on but Hades soldiers, archers, armored soldiers, those fuckers that burrow underground, Minotaurs, the fat Cyclopses, Harpies, Medusas, Sirens, small Cerberus, large Cerberus. That's just off the top of my head of what's in the first game alone.

nice meme

>I was on regular but then I switched to easy because one room was unbeatable because of an invisible timer and bullshit enemies.

If you shit on GoW for not being a deep game, you're probably one of those nu-males shitting on summer blockbuster movies for not being intellectual enough.

>shaped the industry

Bullshit, it wasn't even the best hack n slash of it's system.

is right, only teenagers like this casual as shit series.

My wifes son! NOOO!!!

it's literally just a male power fantasy all about mindlessly pressing buttons, identical to the devil may cry series

>Bullshit, it wasn't even the best hack n slash of it's system.
>QTEs didn't become massively more popular after GoW hit it off
You got it Champ.

As a rule GoW has that extreme violence angle greek mythology is famed for along with rather good graphics paired with solid gameplay and story.

tl;dr an all around solid game.

it was just a simple, shallow game made for a hit of simple fun as a crazy person. Also people who complain about the camera in these or dmc games are shits who should not be treated seriously

Games don't need to be complex or "the best" to shape the industry, dipshit.

GET
GOOD
BITCH

>red wings

Menstrual joke?

Isn't the world nearly uninhabited and he finds a kid in the forest or something?

if new kratos is a numale, every single poster on Sup Forums is a cuck

the first god of war came out in 2005... it was so late in the ps2 cycle it wasn't even close to "reshaping the industry." look at what dominated the next generation, it was call of duty and shit like that the response to GoW3 was tepid at best

God of War 1 is unironically the best Zelda game.

wow

Nigga wut
OP man up.
Continue in regular and pass that room. I don't speak for everyone but i beat it in hard and i love it the shit out of that game, it gets hype sometimes. I don't want to see you in the last boss.

>overly difficult
lol

>If you're bad, I guess. How are they difficult? Even on the highest difficulty settings it's literally just that you just have to play well. They don't cheat

>best zelda game

The zelda eries isn't a hack n slash, that makes no sense.

A better example would be the first Dark Cloud or Okami.

case and point: gears of war. shittiest shooter ever, spawned an entire wasted generation of shooters

>infinite cerberus fight
just barely beat this in God mode, if i didn't have earthquake i would've quit

I played through GoW1 on hard mode just recently and I can't even remember how I made it through that bullshit. Jesus Christ.

Pic related also brought me close to ragequitting.

Sounds like you are casual as fuck which is embarrassing because this game was made for casuals

Just use the box box triangle combo

The first two have amazing level design (the others are okay though). Settings are fresh and well realised, combat is well developed and progresses well with unlocks.

They're fun games and no one really cares about the stories or mythos.

You are shit at video games, quit now. The GoW games are meant to be easy and beatable on normal, just for muh story. Hard mode it's the way meant to be played and Very Hard is the most satisfying all them all.

>"i cant get through this room where everything I fight dies in two hits! Its the games fault! It impossible that I might suck shit at something!"

God of War has always been about the spectacle more than anything. A lot of work went into the environments and animations.

That said, the gameplay isn't that bad. It's not in the same league as DMC, obviously, but it's not a terrible action game. You might be missing something if you're finding the gameplay extremely shallow, and yet think the enemies are overly difficult. I also have no idea how you could think of any of the stupidly obvious "puzzles" as vague, or understand what issue you might be having with the camera.

That's bullshit, the direction doesn't change when camera angles do, unless you move the stick.

I don't like DMC at all, it's too floaty.

yeah 2 is the best, the third one didn't change much of the mechanics from two they just upped the graphics and changed the bosses

Thats Okami

>Kratos clones in 1
>Save the translator in 2
>Giant Scorpion and Zeus inside Gaia in 3
>All of them in the hardest difficulty
I honestly don't remember any real hard part on GoS, CoO or Ascension, but damn.

>God of War is too hard for Sup Forums

Holy fucking shit what is going on

the greek myths is enough to justify why someone into that shit would enjoy the game.

also excessive tits and gore appeals to kids which is the biggest target audience to GoW. not even going to lie I loved it for those 2 reasons when it came out and I was underaged.

>two hits
Did you play in god/titan mode?

>excessive tits and gore appeals to kids
It appeals to adults as well.

There was that one part in ascension that Adam "coke me up" sessler complained was too hard that they patched forget what it was called though. I remember it being near the end on some elevator, I played post patch so it wasn't memorable

No user, only children* and edgy teenagers* enjoy blood and sex. Sophisticated adults* wouldn't possibly stoop to such depravity!

I know the spot. It's a "survive the elevator ride" part with multiple waves of fairly high-tier enemies, which is fine. But there are (were?) no checkpoints between waves, nor any health. It was just a really dumb design decision.

Super Mario 64 is my favorite beat-em-up!

I actually really liked GoW, u don't think that it's a paragon of gameplay or anything like that, but you can't deny that the games were enjoyable, it looked great, and the setting was fantastic. If you were able to start the game on God/Titan/Forgot what 3 did it would have been even better.

the camera was never cinematic
it wasn't RE or anything
maybe you just need to git gud

>No checkpoint between waves, nor any health
Ah, the days when video games required you to actually play well to progress. A good thing those pesky things are gone!

>Save the translator in 2
more like when yo have to go up against 3 infinite cereberus dogs that spit out little ones that become big in a matter of seconds.

I never beat GoW1 on the hardest difficulty - I simply can't make it through Ares stage 3. I beat GoW2 on the highest difficulty (though I never tried GoW 3 at highest iirc).

Still the first game is full of bullshit.

>hades

Even Jaffe admitted they didn't playtest that.

>the enemy are bland and overly difficult
>retardedly vague and story simple as hell
>Not to mention the terrible camera

What the fuck does this even mean? why does everyone think they are ebiin critic for having petty or trivial complaints?
It's fun killing shit and every casul knows how to press square all day and circle
occasionally.

It's fun.

This, I love GoW. Seeing ares in the background throughout the first, climbing up Gaia in the third, all these moments of immense scale are just cool as fuck. They're not as deep or intricate as ninja gaiden but they don't set out to be, and what they do accomplish is really admirable.

Kamiya is one of my favorite devs but look at the e3 Scalebound gameplay just embarrassing compared to what Santa Monica could have done

Agreed, green cerberus were the worst.

And the skelleton captains spawning infinitely, not allowing you to move that cage.

I agree, it's "Big McBlades vs. mythos" but it definitely has an audience, and they're even kind of fun

GoW 1 on Titan was harder than DMC 3 on DMD for me.

what treachery is this

People want to feel important and sound like they have any idea how to actually criticize anything. On the other hand, I see like half of professional critics fail at making legitimate criticisms and instead use a combination of feels and laziness.

This game was better that the God of War II. God of War II got really annoying with the fucking crank puzzles.

>Puzzles
>Unnecesary gore
>Sort of leveling up system for weapons and skills
>Greek Mythos

What's not to like?

Bet you liked Kid Icarus: Uprising, you massive cuck.

Really? Euryale's head was really useful on that part

on God mode that was the only part which damn near made me quit

That's right, I'm also playing on the hardest difficulty, but I still think the translator was harder, especially the last wave, those damn summoners were the worst

Only played the first one but it had some great environments. Pandoras temple is top tier
>It starts off with lots of gorgeous marble, elegant obstacles and statues but you see through the environment as you go further in and the years of construction went on the Designer stopped giving a shit as it claimed the lives of his sons and he just starts plopping giant buzz saws everywhere

GoW2 had a lot of roadblocks.

>Thesus
>Cerberus Breeder
>Translator
>Endurance Run
