It was released when 6 other fighting games were released during that same year. There's no way that an English speaking community could keep the 6 different anime fighting games alive for that long.

English release and steam release didn't do much to help. I'm just waiting for UNI[st] now.

They should of localized Melty Blood first on the ps2 to build a fanbase since that game already has fans... weebs who played Tsukihime. But they missed that chance already.

Under Night in-Birth also isn't as good as Melty Blood in my opinion.

Needs the latest version to be on consoles already.

I personally like the style and the sprite work. Grd system is pretty cool system mechanic I feel.
Overall mechanics, frames, invincibility, and the likes improved his life. Still doesn't have a reversal but he isn't Akatsuki tier anymore. Speaking of which, Akatsuki isn't a complete joke now, at least not as much as before.

Too much competition on consoles.
Localization took too long.
PC port took too long.

The next game should do a bit better since the genre seems to be slowing down again.

It's probably one of the funnest fighters ever, it's a shame it doesn't have that many player

EVO fucking gutted it.

When the JP version came out it was actually getting consistently high play at majors in North America. More it beat out Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 in terms of contestants at Canada Cup 2014, the players were putting in the work.

The NA release was going to be in February and the stars all seemed to align.

And then they decided to make Persona fucking 4 Arena as a main game. P4A at that point was dying a slow but sure death, there was no reason to make it a main game other then "We need one more air dasher and I don't know what UNIEL is".

I assure you if we had made it to EVO that year the community would still be thriving.

Now we all know that there's no point in these tournament showings for other anime games because at the end of the day THE anime game is always going to be Guilty Gear. And while I love Guilty Gear many people are solely playing that game now because it's the one anime game that will always be guaranteed an Evo spot unless Arcsy fucks up REALLY hard.
