How would one even go about becoming a voice actor nowadays when new talent gets shafted so hard? You need experience to put on a resume for an agent to hire you, but you can't get experience unless you have an agent to find you work. It just doesn't make sense.

I want to be a VA, but I don't even know where to begin.

I'm in the same boat, and from what I hear, it's one of two things. You either know someone already in the business that can get you inside, or you have to put yourself out all over the place online in hopes of being discovered.

You have to apply for all the jobs you can. Unless you live in the LA area, this probably means mostly indie games. Being in the right area would help you out, as you'd be able to associate with other voice actors in the business who could put a good word in for you.

I don't think moving to LA is absolutely necessary now thanks to the internet making it so much easier to get stuff out, but I know it helps a tremendous load. The money thing is exactly why I can't move there. Far too damn expensive.

Best of luck to you, user. Just try and audition for all that you can on some VA forums where people are actively looking for people to get in on their projects. You'll end up doing it for free, but it'll get you recognition and something to put on your resume for others to see.

I still need to start myself. I landed a main role on a web animation, but that's been over four years ago with no update, so I need to take my own advise and start doing auditions.
