I'm buying a PS4 for KOF 14 and buying this along with some other games. I hope Laura is my main, haven't played the game.

I find when facing Mika more than any other character I'm playing to not lose rather than playing to win. It seems as though I'm always one irish whip away from ending up in a series of guesses. It feels like the game kind of gets dumbed down for both of us if I want to win.

I main Chun but I've been trying to learn Juri but have had little success with her.

Will probably just wait until someone else figures her out.

I do play SFV and I don't want to devolve this into shitposting, but hear me out. SFV is kinda samey.

Outside of a cornered opponent, you don't get to continuously apply pressure after you throw someone, as a general rule. Laura and Alex don't get to dash back in after their command throws and mixup at all. Zangief cannot move in without being punishable after L SPD.

However, Mika can after Brimstone and it doesn't even swap sides like the back throws that do let you go straight into more mixup/pressure (I.E. Gief/Laura). So Mika does get to 50/50 into more 50/50 because she also gets pressure after asscheek combos. This is pretty upsetting to lose to.

I would main Juri but every time I try to play the game I'm reminded of how disappointing her SFV version is, and how she's literally just not even fun to play anymore compared to her SFIV version.

Is it just SFV as a game that's not fun to play or did they really just ruin Juri for SFV?

All I know is that when I play her I can feel how extremely limited I've become. I can boot up SFIV and I feel like I can do so much, and then in SFV I feel like I playing a linear character on rails.

That isn't true at all, especially for Laura who's whole gameplan resolves around her getting a knock down to keep applying pressure. Also dashing in is not the only way to apply pressure

Unless you step in and burn meter for EX Fireball, Laura is limited to a meaty being her only safe option after Sunset Wheel. If she dashes in she's at negative frames to where even her 3 frame jab will lose to slow character mashing a 4f. I brought all that up to explain why people get buttmad at Mika, who can do that without spending meter because Brimstone leaves you right at her feet.
