Sonic's up & downs and all arounds

Sonic 1: OK, Marble and Labyrinth zone get kinda tedious

Sonic 2: Awesome but the level progression feels random & special stages are hard as shit

Sonic CD: Complex level design that encourages exploration a little confusing at times, creative but kinda easy boss battles, Awesome music, Cute cutscenes, Good game

Sonic 3 & Knuckles: A huge adventure with all 3 characters with a minimal plot and sane progression in many diverse level, great level design, memorable music, Greatest game

Knuckles Chaotix: Rubber band mechanic unnecessarily complicates controls, bland basic level design, chaotic special stages, cool looking bosses, some interesting ideas but boring overall

Sonic Spinball: Western style Sonic, pinball action with small control over Sonic. Some animations are cute. RIP headphone users. Okay I suppose if you're into pinball and Pingas Robotnik memes. The 8bit version is one of my painful guilty pleasures although it runs in like 9 FPS

Sonic 3D Blast: Boring fetchquest in each level, speed is not earned, ugly plastic prerendered graphics, boring

Sonic 3D Blast (Saturn): Same as above but with awesome looking 3D Special Stages

Sonic the Fighters: Fun fighting game with Sonic characters. The squish and cartoony effects are cute. Bring back Rocket Metal.

Sonic X-treme: Overrated cancelled 3D fisheye looking Sonic game.

Sonic R: Promising Sonic foot race game that really needed many more levels, powerups and better racetrack design. Another guilty pleasure.

Sonic Adventure: Interesting story progression, Horrible collisions, slightly slippery controls. Variety of gameplay styles ruins it (especially Big's fishing), okay game

Sonic Adventure 2: Trying too-hard to be serious/edgy plothole-filled story. Gem Hunting can get boring and frustrating. Jiggly bat tits.

Sonic Shuffle: The boards are not very interesting but some mini games are kinda cute. The music gets from funky to weird. Many say it's a Mario party ripoff. To quote Eggman "AWWWW YEAHHH??"

hello autism

Sonic Heroes: Team gameplay can get annoying. Some level themes feel repetitive. You have to play the entire game 4 times to see the real ending. Shadow was revived because of the cries of the fangirls

Shadow the Hedgehog: Slippery controls. Sonic Adventure 2 story gets even more fucked up to the point no one cares. A sonic character uses realistic guns.

Sonic 2006: Tries to much to be dark & realistic. Art direction that fits more into Final Fantasy. Story is a time travel mess and save the princess. The missions are boring. Realistic cats when you have anthropomorphic Blaze the cat. HUGE loading times. A fuckload of glitches. Sonic DIES. Elise kisses Sonic in the mouth to infuse him with life... somehow

Sonic Genesis: Crappy port of a good game. Nothing more offensive than that.

Sonic Advance: Interesting level themes, cute spritework for the system. Game encourages high speed but still has some platforming.

Sonic Advance 2: More of the above. Cream is broken as fuck.

Sonic Advance 3: More of the above. Buddy switching is kinda interesting.

Sonic Battle: Interesting story. Repetitive boring gameplay.

Sonic Rush: Too much boosting to enjoy the levels. Bottomless pits make navigating around the levels frustrating.

Sonic Rush Adventure: Interesting level progression with the map encourages exploration. Cute world building. Boost is encouraged, but it's a little more balanced.

Sonic and the Secret Rings: On rails Sonic, story ripped from Arabian Nights and just shoved Sonic characters in it. Pass.

Sonic and the Black Night: Same as above but now Sonic has a sword in a medieval setting. Stop that.

Sonic Rivals: Just race an AI rival to the end gameplay. Nothing really interesting.

Sonic Rivals 2: Ditto

Sonic Unleashed: Sonic turns into a werewolf when they could have used an existing Sonic character like Knuckles and it'd fit artistically. Pixar humans #yolo. Art direction is non-existant. Werehog fighting gameplay is repetitive, platforming is atrocious and slippery. No, I don't want chocolate.

Sonic Chronicles: Fun take on a Sonic RPG. The hand drawn backgrounds are kinda cool. The music is horrible except for a couple tracks. Game ends with a crappy cliffhanger attempting to secure a sequel that never came.

Sonic & All Stars Racing: Fun racing game with some Sonic characters.

Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed: Same as above but this time Optimus Prime approves.

Sonic 4 EP I: Shitty modern Sonic model that has a creepy smile. GREEN EYES. Plastic looking levels. Bad level design. Recycled stages from old games. Terrible music. Broken physics.
It has Sonic FOUR in the title when it offers nothing new to the main/classic series. It has also a crappy mobile port.

Sonic 4 EP II: As above. More recycled/uninspired stages. Boring special stages. Fixed physics a little but not by far. Terrible music and repetitive boss theme. Getting the chaos emeralds contributes to nothing more in the ending.

Sonic Colors: Good game but not a 3D game as most of the levels try to switch to 2D whenever they can. Interesting stages and powerups. Sonic finally goes underwater and it doesn't suck.

Sonic Generations: 2 Sonics because the fanbase is so divided and need to please them all. TOO MANY CITY LEVELS. Planet Wisp level design will make you bored to oblivion. OK 2D and 3D Sonic playstyles. Terrible final boss.

Sonic Lost World: No incentive for the Zeti to destroy the world. Stereotypical characters on the Zeti. Sonic has a run button now, ugh. Parkour gameplay that barely works. The stealth section and shadow levels suck. Creative badniks and old ones come back. Don't go after the Red Rings. Bland as hell overall.

Sonic Boom: The Crash Bandicoot game no one ever asked for. Art direction is Crash, Rachet & Clank, anything but Sonic. Boring combat that serves as padding. Glitches. Knuckles is Arnold Schwarzenegger. Characters don't shut up. Shadow appears just for a bland boss fight and because of the fanboys.

Sonic 1 (Master System): Basic platformer, good game for its system.

Sonic 2 (Master System): Basic platformer, nice level themes. Level design is not that good and later on becomes cryptic. That damn spike pit in Green Hills Zone.

Sonic Chaos: An improvement on visuals, more of the same 8bit fun, some interesting stage ideas

Sonic Triple Trouble: As above. Bring back Fang (Yes, it's Fang cause he has a bit Fang, not "Nack")

Sonic Drift: Would be interesting if the screen was bigger and controls better. The music is really repetitive short loops. Kinda interesting idea though.

Sonic Drift 2: More stages, more of the same

Sonic Blast: Ugly prerendered graphics with washed out colors. Boring levels to play and look at. Blue Marine Zone will make you rage.

Tails Adventure: Interesting little exploration platformer. Moves kinda slow though and has a big flaw when if you don't have the correct items for the stage, you have to quit the level, get the item and start over.

Tails Skypatrol: Not really what you'd play for platforming. The villains look straight out of a Looney Tunes cartoon. Tails is addicted to mint candy. Eh.

Sonic Labyrinth: Slow moving Sonic with a time limit and isometric controls. Jesus Christ make it stop.

SegaSonic the Hedgehog: Cute little action game that noone can play right because of trackball controls. The animations are cute and expressive.

SegaSonic Popcorn Shop: Mmm sweet popcorn...

SegaSonic Patrol Car: Woop Woop. This is the sound of the police

Sonic's Schoolhouse: Stay in school kids.

main negger

>Shadow was revived because of the cries of the fangirls

should have stayed ded

that's a sexy looking sonic model

>Fang will never make a grand reappearance in Mania as a boss

I am still expecting obscure characters to appear in Mania. It is being made by fans and former fangame makers after all.

>Sonic has a run button now
what? didn't play it. So can you explain this?

Sonic in Lost World kinda walk/jogs slightly, you need to hold down the run button so that Sonic actually runs at a decent speed. They did that because of they thought Sonic's speed becomes too chaotic to control at times. Derp.

You walk by default, hold a button to run, and press both triggers to spindash which basically acts as a boost in this game since it keep doing it forever without stopping if you know what you're doing.
It was supposed to give you more control over your movement, but it actually gives you less control compared to previous games. Since the walk speed is too slow to be useful for much and your movement speed is basically binary with this setup.

>Marble
>tedious

PLEASE END THIS MEME

Sonic 1 is just as great at the rest imo.

>That damn spike pit in Green Hills Zone

wat

>Art direction is non-existent
Unleashed is probably the best looking Sonic game to date though in terms of art style.
It's a shame the game is bogged down by so much bullshit though, because I enjoy the daytime stages.

Is it okay to play through Sonic games without hunting down the chaos emeralds?

forgot sonic pocket adventure the better version of sonic 2

Everything is okay as long as you're having fun, but in some games you miss things by not getting them. Ideally you should at least get them in a run so you see what the fuss is all about.

In most games it unlocks super sonic and an extra final stage/boss/ending

>UP AND DOWN AND ALL AROUND

I usually don't. I can't be bothered to play a bunch of fucking mini-games to get the emeralds most of the time.

newgrounds.com/portal/view/595877

Sonic 2 special stages are some serious trial and error bullshit, bro.

i like sanic 1 as much as any other guy, but going from green hill zone to marble zone is just jarring in comparison

>Sonic 1 (Master System): Basic platformer, good game for its system.
It's easily one of the best games for the master system, if not for Yuzo Koshiro's soundtrack alone.

>Sonic 2 (Master System): Basic platformer, nice level themes. Level design is not that good and later on becomes cryptic. That damn spike pit in Green Hills Zone.

Like most 16 bit casuals, you simply do not appreciate that Sonic 2 on the Master System is a purposely more difficult game made to serve a more hardcore and less easily swayed by marketing audience. Put simply, it is advanced Sonic for true patricians.

>Sonic Rush: Too much boosting to enjoy the levels. Bottomless pits make navigating around the levels frustrating.
>frustrating
I only remember Huge Crisis to give me even remotely any trouble.

Sonic 2's special stages weren't hard, they were poorly designed
There's a difference

How is a level transition jarring?

Marble Zone is the second level. Second levels are supposed to change pace. I don't understand what these autist()s are talking about.

...

As much as I want to like Sonic CD, I would NOT call it a good game.
Everything has to be choreographed to get by.

Also there literally is no point to traveling to the future. EVER.

Do Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine

>tfw I agree______

Sonic 8bit is severely underrated. 1 is basically a modded remnant of the original 16bit design.

There is also no point in breathing more than 1 time per minute.

>Pixar humans #yolo.
What the fuck?
>platforming is atrocious and slippery.
How is it slippery in any way?

I don't know, I consider myself a fan but most of the times I don't bother with them. Too much trial and error in most games and few chances to get it right. I remember getting them on Sonic 4 Ep. 2 because you could restart the special stages at any point before losing.
