Something that's been on my mind lately. Fucking Killer Instinct got a new game before Darkstalkers and is on its third season. Not knocking Killer Instinct, but what if the decision of whether or not to make a new game was decided on how many people bought Killer Instinct Classic?

I just recently noticed that Demitri changes to his True Form for like one frame on some of his normals.

It all has to do with corporate ownership of IPs. Killer Instinct is the only fighting IP Microsoft owns. Or at least the only noteworthy one. So if they're going to put out a fighting game, which is something of a smart move now that they're regaining popularity, they're going to put out Killer Instinct.Meanwhile Capcom owns half a dozen or so fighting IPs. But it's not like the old days where companies are willing to put out tons of games. Because budgets are so huge now, they want to hedge all their bets on one thing. They'd consider releasing multiple game sin the same genre to be competing with themselves. If by some fluke of history Darkstalkers had been produced by some other company, it would have easily gotten a new game by now. But as things are, it and all these otehr games are just going to lie in limbo under Street Fighter's shadow.

It's in many, many of his animations. Even things like blocking and damage animations. Way back in the very first game, those single frame glimpses were all you ever saw of it. It wasn't until the second game introduced Demon Blast that you could actually get a decent look at it without pausing at just the right time.

How popular is Darkstalkers compare to Street Fighters?

No where near Street Fighter, but most games aren't. Its the most popular game on that list next to Rival Schools and Power Stone, however.

Back in the day it did reasonably well overall (went unnoticed in the west, but was big enough in Japan that it was considered a successful IP). But now it's laid dormant so long that it's lost all of the steam it once had. Remember that Street Fighter itself lost a lot of steam in the 2000s until SF4 came out. But meanwhile in all that time all Darkstalkers has had is more rereleases of the same old games.

Yeah guys, the aesthetics of this series are just fantastic. I have the latest art book, and the bits of commentary make it all the more saddening that Capcom gave up on the series.

Yeah, she does that to Pyron in her ending in the first two games. But what weirds me out more about that is the fact that Pyron even has a skeleton.

I wish there were a book on Ghosts 'n Goblins art, but maybe there isn't enough material saved or public interest.
