Why is there barely any interest in roguelikes, either from players or from devs? Is the genre dead?

There are still a few rogue likes, Battle Brothers for example.
roguelikes require an attention to detail that developers aren't willing to put into their games.
because modern roguelikes are garbage, the only people I trust to make actual good ones is Spike Chunsoft
That or they completely miss the point on how to make roguelikes, like Dungeons of Dredmore.
What do you mean? Roguelikes are doing as good as ever. Even some of the genre-defining classics previously thought no longer maintained by the original set of developers, like NetHack, have been updated recently.
>thread has Kogasa in the OP
>thread is not about Kogasa
shit thread
Oh my god, don't get me started on Dungeons of Dredmore. Fuck that fucking game. It took me WAY too long to realize how fundamentally shitty and broken the design is.
No but new players have a hard time with the brutal learning curve associated with the genre, making most playerbases static.
The genre's not dead, it's just incredibly niche and that will never change because normies don't like permadeath.
ToME and Stone Soup are experiencing a kind of renaissance. Both games are still in active development and they're both great.
Don't even start complaining about your genre
>Haven't have a good tank centered rpg in years
>The genre's not dead, it's just incredibly niche
So it's on life support.
I find it really cool that there is this divide between oldfag Stone Soup veterans that want to see the game go back to its roots and newfag Stone Soup players that want more concise experience. The fact that this game has high enough pool of active players to spark debate like that blows my mind.
>Heterochromia
Or how to instantly turn me off of a character. It's seriously the most stupid special snowflake shit you can slap on a character. It never ever looks good, and never fails to irritate me.
Every person in this thread could be using a different definition of roguelike. The term "roguelike" is one that is tossed around so much the perceived line has blurred a lot.
People still play risk of rain and dwarf fortress.
No one else has ever topped these two since their releases.
One day, we will probably see a new game. But that's probably not today.
Every fucking game these days has some sort of roguelike elements. People are sick of seeing them.
Outside that, Shiren the Wanderer was just released a little while ago.
>Mystery Dungeon games aren't roguelikes!
Then how about you explain what makes a roguelike as opposed to a game with roguelike elements?
I personally go by Berlin Interpretation (roguebasin.com
Not enough roguelikes have enough cute girls to keep me interested
Exactly, there's definately no shortage of them out there. Just like what happened to all the RTS game? Tons of people were making them but they were too shit to bother with.
There's Elona.
That's the only one I've played for more than a day
As much as I'd like to see more, it's going to take quite a bit for me to play that over stone soup
>tank centered rpg
What the hell is that?
