Learned that they made 3 an anime to wrap up the arc

What am I in for? 5 minutes into the first episode and it seems like a cliche anime. Should I give up hope?

One's a prequel called DR3 Despair Arc focusing on the DR2 cast.
The other is called DR3 Future Arc basically Danganronpa 3 and will wrap up the trilogy (not to be confused with Danganronpa V3, a reboot of the franchise).

It helps but it's not super-necessary. DR1 and DR2 are the only mandatory things to get done before watching the shows.

Also OP, don't bother with the DR1 show. It's basically a scene-by-scene recap of the game.

Kinda in the same boat OP. Beat D2 a little while ago, but I haven't started watching the anime. I've checked out a few episodes of the first games anime and I was surprised at how fast they're blazing through shit. But I guess once you cut out free time, it's going to speed up a bit. I don't know if I can watch the rest of the anime in English though. Two episodes in and Monokuma's "Hyuk Hyuk" laugh really irritates me, I liked his english voice in the game. Yeah yeah, superior nip bullshit I'm sure, I'm not weeb enough to watch only subs

There were people thinking when Danganronpa 3 started that you didn't need to play Ultra Despair Girls but then that plot line started coming into the Future arc 2 episodes ago.

So the same situation could happen with Danganronpa Zero.

Stopped watching pretty early, but I didn't like how they didn't establish Sayaka telling Makoto to take the gold weapon for defense or some of the conversation pieces being gone, like Yasuhiro freaking out when he realizes the deaths were real.

no man, it's pretty simple if you look at it, the first game is to show people despair right? the second game gives you the hint really fast, at first i thought that rabbit bear was working with mono, but when you see him coming back, it all make sense, i google it because i though "nah this can't be that simple" but i found a cruel reality.

anyway, i'm not saying it is a bad game, i just wanted to play it to watch anime, but i'm too lazy now, imma stay with side future, and start watching the other when all the school rumble stuff stop happening

You'll enjoy the game, go play. Knowing they are remnants means nothing, it's only one twist, as you still miss a lot of the plot. I won't even spoil it by giving hints.

DR3 is paced much better by virtue of being written for that format, while DR1 suffered from trying to squeeze a ~20 hour VN into 13 half-hour episodes.

The first few episodes are pretty damn slow though.

but it's on 3DS and actually takes advantage of both the dual screens and 3D (ZTD does neither since it's a port of the PC version)

Ibuki has a rather minor role in the second game. She's fun and a bit crazy, but she isn't as lolrandom and you might think. She's a nice girl over all.

Junko is pretty interesting and I still can't say more because of her role in the games. You can waifu her if you want (hint hint). Lot of Sup Forums does. Go play the games.

Funimation is using their Danganronpa 1 anime dub actors for those returning characters (everyone has different voices from the game other than Makoto).

In the Despair arc, almost all of the Danganronpa 2 characters have their English dub game actors other Fuyuhiko, Ibuki, Akane, Peko, and Gundham.

I personally don't mind, because I love her and she's so fucking cute in the anime.

She's a bit of a mary sue but plotwise, it's pretty damn necessary. Especially as she causes you-know-what.
