Another source for the Tegra chip?
Well the only thing that lends credency to this argument is that Nvidia canceled their next brand of shield tablets for "business reasons".
The x2 chip would make the console more powerful than PlayStation Neo.
For a handheld that's phenomenal. But won't the fucking thing feel like it's on fire and eat through battery life like nothing on earth?
There is also timetable wise.
Nintendo's delayed Marchish release date would put it a nice 2-3 months after the X2 comes out which is a perfect amount of time for production to go in and be ready by then.
If they were using the X1 then there's no reason they couldn't have had it out by now.
Nope
great argument
elaborate
Nintendo doesn't use new hardware in their consoles though, so there's no way it's using x2. Move along folks, nothing to see here.
not an argument
Any fucking tegra chip in an actual product has worse performance than a 360. This is a disaster.
yay let's make up news and post it to get people to view our site so we can get the ad money for it
AGAIN
If there's one proven truth about the gaming industry, it's that you can never second-guess what Nintendo is going to do.
>it's that you can never second-guess what Nintendo is going to do
people called out the wii u being a terrible idea before it launched and were correct
Wii U was actually a fucking brilliant 'concept'.
But Nintendo fucked the execution by making the machine underpowered and they flubbed the marketing.
What on earth would ever make you think it's a handheld?
It still blows my mind that they never made Pokemon Snap 2 with motion controls. Plus using analog triggers on their gamepads makes Gamecube VC titles unlikely. So many missed opportunities with the Wii U.
Still a fun console though, I don't regret buying mine, especially since I got it for £199 shortly after it released. Standard price now but back then that was a great deal for the deluxe version (and also a free copy of ZombiU)
>it's another thread about how a new upcoming Nintendo console has these amazing rumored specs that will completely outclass the competitors
How long has this been going on now? A decade?
I managed to get my Wii U from a supermarket which had clearly decided to longer support the machine. They just slashed the prices and it was selling for £200. That was back in 2014. I picked the Mario Kart pack and Wind Waker HD for less than £250.
Had a blast. The controller was brilliant and had a lot of unused potential.
Even for non-game activities like watching Netflix could have been amazing if used properly. You could have used the controller screen to search for other movies or tv shows while one was playing on your TV, but the support was never there.
Ultimately, I think time will be kinder to Wii U and people will eventually look back fondly on as they often do with such things.
But it's telling that I never felt the need to buy the system at launch or at anytime for the year until I saw it in a sale.
I honestly though Nintendo was finally going to stand up and steal all those console exclusives away from Xbox like KH3, FFXV and now Nier which could've been PS4 + NX.............. instead they want that tablet gaming market JUST completely cuck and tuck my shit up Nintendo.
>console comes out 3 years after the competitors
>competitors were using outdated hardware when they released, are basically garbage now
>it's supposed to be surprising that a next-gen console would be on par with them or better
not him but it's what's been indicated thus far by rumors
this does give credence to the notion that NX is actually a family of 2 or more devices
Does anyone still give a shit about rumors after reading the millionth?
Okay guys, let's cool down for a fucking second.
Yes, we know that one of the more common rumors/insider leanings/bullshit/whateveryouwannacallit/etc is that should it be Nvidia-based it will have a Tegra X1 or similar. Of course the X1 is already out and should the Nvidia thing pan out, which again we still have no TRUE lead on this, it only makes sense that the next one in line would be used.
And the site? SegmentNext?
Seriously, this is nothing more than non-news DUH that sites write for ad revenue. Cool down guys, we'll know more in the coming weeks.
A tegra chip would be far less powerful than even a Wii U. Either the chip is used as a secondary chip (maybe in the controller?) or this is going to be the fucking blunder of the century.
I love how Sup Forums forget about a rumor being fake then jump on the next one
>free form display patent comes out
>OH SHIT THE NX IS GONNA BE THIS HAHAHAHAHA NINTENDOOOOMED
>OH SHIT THE CONTROLLER JUST LEAKED, IT'S REAL AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>controller turns out ot be fake
>everyone forgets about the whole thing, patent included
>new patent comes out
>OH SHIT THE NX IS GONNA BE THIS HAHAHAHAHA NINTENDOOOOMED
>OH SHIT THE CONSOLE JUST LEAKED, IT'S REAL AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Rinse and repeat.
What? No. Wii U is something like 350 GFlops. The X1 pulled something like 500 Nvidia GFlops which are actually something like 800 AMD GFlops. X1 is something like 1.2 TFlops and PS4 is like 1.8 TFlops. People on NeoFAG had estimated that an X2 would be somewhere between X1 and the PS4, or even more if they sell a dock with an integrated processor.
Just to stop this madness, i have to inform you that the "mobile factor" don't play on THIS specific case because WiiU is already basically a tablet chip terms of power consumption.
The whole system consumes around 14 watts, with the CPU/GPU combo probably running under 6, which is well, half of the max a tegra X1 can use.
And Tegra X1 use much, MUCH better technology overall.
Tegra SoCs sell for $25.
Nintendo is happy to give you cheap shit with sub par resolution.
Stop getting my hopes up.
Don't worry.
There are several, several, SEVERAL ways nintendo can fuck this up.
Like for example not releasing any good game for the system, or crippling it with 2GB of memory, or making some horrible awful gimmick and forcing it in every game, or overpricing it to hell, or burning any bridge that is left with the third parties, or poorly designing the thing and making it the Remake of 3.33RL: you can(not) play your games.
Why do people believe this shit? You know Nintendo will make a cheap weak console because they want to make profit day one and they don't care about 3rd parties.
>You know Nintendo will make a cheap weak console because they want to make profit day one
worked for Sony.
Compute performance does not work this way. Your post is utter stupidity.
The WiiU pulls about 40w full CPU and GPU load, though this is because its using cheap commodity 40nm and 45nm parts.
An X2 pulling 2w~ nominally would have no problem providing significantly more performance.
I'm always curious to find out why dumb little kids like you feel its a good idea to post when they have no idea what they're talking about. Care to explain yourself?
Nobody knows, not even Sony, why people buy a Ps4. It's still a Bloodborne machine.
also this is a big deal because they're missing the holiday launch window by 3-5 months
nintendo needs a BIG fucking reason to launch the nx in march instead of november
wii launched on Nov 19th and was one of the biggest holiday purchases of 2006, they rolled in the god damn dough
why would nintendo launch in march of all months? because they want the tegra 2, thats why, no other plausible reason
>Nobody knows, not even Sony, why people buy a Ps4
do people really believe this?
But what's the gimmi-, I mean innovation?
Well, given the fact the Nvidia shield tablet did sold at $200, and nintendo is basically doing in theory the same hardware, but with a more powerful chip that adds - 10/20$ to the price.
They can sell it at $300 just like they did with the WiiU, and get 80$ over the profit Nvidia was already having with the shield tablet.
So there is your profit on day one, and massive one at that, most likely around the $150 range.
Same reason people bought the 360 before the PS3 fixed its shit: the vast, vast majority of gamers these days are casuals. They just want a multiplat box to play the latest COD or AC or whatever. It doesn't take much to convince the masses this or that console is "the one," and once that ball gets rolling, it tends to pick of everyone else in their wake.
People aren't like Sup Forums's platonic ideal of a game consumer, who carefully researches exclusives and compares how multiplats they may want run on each console. They just go "okay, new AAA's coming, needs new console. Which one isn't getting shit on as much as the others and can play it? Got it, lets go." By and large, they just don't give a shit.
Nvidia isn't going to keep manufacturing X1s
The NX can't possibly run on the X1, because what are they going to do, ask nvidia to restart production on it once they run out of stock while the NX is still in its lifecycle? You don't make a new console on a retiring chip when you're going to keep producing more consoles for years to come.
only the x2 makes any sense here
The Nvidia shield tablet had a stupid cheap BOM, and it was nicer than anything Nintendo will release. That $200 device had a healthy profit margin already. Tegra SoCs all have about the same pricetag, arbitrarily adding $20 to your imagined spec sheet makes no sense.
They're incredibly cheap ARM SoCs made for smartphones. The highest end ones on the market, including Apple's A series, sell for less than $30 per unit.
Nvidia would run whatever a client wanted at TSMC. If someone ordered thousands of wafers of 40nm Fermi parts they'd make it happen.
All this info came straight from Wikipedia, and they just added "sources say" to it.
Like all NX rumours, it's nice to speculate, but until Nintendo unveils it, take everything with a pinch of salt.
>better hardware will somehow save Nintendo from its appalling lack of creativity and quality controls
It's over. Just move on and let them go back to making toys.
Well, Nvidia don't have to pay for their own SoC unlike nintendo will.
But as you said, that's only extra $30.
Thing will be stupidly cheap to manufacture.
I won't call you a Sonygger (even though you probably are) but tell me, what kind of creativity od the games you like have?
They have paid online and cinematic presentation
>interactive movies
why is this still a thing
Rumors that have been bunked by Nintendo, in fact the only official thing they've said is that it's going to be a console, not a hand held.
nintendo has never said said it won't be a handheld
Normies have no imagination and they're not good at actual gameplay.
They want to watch a TV show while holding a controller.
Every thread.
Engaging story, intense action and immersive atmosphere
Thousand Year Door is an example of a good Nintendo game. Wind Waker as well. Mario Galaxy. Superstar Saga and Pikmin 2.
Star Fox Zero, Metroid Other M, Skyward Sword, NSMBW and SSB: Rehash are examples of bad Nintendo games. Of late the bad has been out weighing the good.
Then you have things like Wii Music and Donkey Kong Icy Ballsack that are just inexcusable.
Nobody bought a Shield
Nobody bought a Vita
Nobody bought a Game Gear
Why would Nintendo make the same mistake? Nobody wants a big, "muh graphics" handheld.
Something tells me you've never played Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, or any recent Nintendo game you say you hate.
>apologize that an unsubstantiated rumor was totally debunked by another unsubstantiated rumor
Radical.
>Shit talking Tropical Freeze
Nigga I will fight you in real life.
>The x2 chip would make the console more powerful than PlayStation Neo.
Wut. Let's say it does use the Tegra X2 chip, how are ARM cores ever going to be faster than the AMD Jaguar cores?
A Tegra X2 isn't stronger than a Wii U.
I've played enough of them to know the Wii U is not worth buying. Who the fuck would buy an abandoned console?
Mario Kart 8 was breddy good, I'll give you that.
But Nintendo needs to stop with the gimmick bullshit. No more waggle, no more touch pad, and no more fucking 3D. Get rid of this Amiboo garbage that appeals to no one but kids and fat autistic fanboys. Stop making your flagship console a nightmare for third party developers to work with. THEN maybe Nintendo can start digging itself out of this grave.
The tegra X1/X2 chips fit well with the nintendo M.O because nintendo is always, ALWAYS after a good bargain.
They don't purposefully buy the worst chip available, or, well Gamecube would be powered by an Alliance AT3D video chip (yes, it manages to somehow look worse than the PS1).
What they want is a very, very cheap but fast enough chip to run the next mario, at a point they will get completely weird and unknown companies to do their thing, like ARTX or DMP, just because well, they can make this massive order of chips for a very, VERY reduced price.
And the Tegras are on the bargain bin, because they suck at being Android 3D chips due sucking too much power for what they offer in terms of Open GL ES 2.0 performance, while actually being quite good when using more advanced APIs nobody gives a shit on android.
tegra x1 is stronger than the wii u
tegra x2 will be stronger than the xbone
Cortex A72, A73, Denver, Kryo, Cyclone, and some other ARMv8 cores are all faster than Jaguar per clock. They're significantly larger designs on ISO process, far more transistors, far newer as well. Jaguar is an old design made for low die area and low cost with moderate performance. It wasn't designed to be competing in perf/watt at low TDPs in 2016. Its well over 5 years old now anway.
Though that user doesn't know that, hes a complete retard.
The mobile X2 flat out can't compare on the IGP front, and it can only maintain CPU clocks as thermal headroom allow.
tl;dr is that a mobile part isn't going to compete with a home console. Ignore Nintoddler posts.
I own all three. Whatever you say, man.
Nigga you will lose in real life
All that matters to me is the games. The system could have Vita level of specs and I would still buy it if the games on there for it.
it can't compete with PS4 or PC, but it sure can outclass the wii u and compete with the xbox one, and those are both 'home consoles', just shitty ones
>I've played enough of them to know the Wii U is not worth buying
>read: I've not played anything except a little Mariokart 8 with a friend.
xbone is like 4 times more powerful than a Wii U.
Tegra x2 is not going to be that much more powerful than its predecessor.
It's going to be below xbone/ps4
Nintendo have been abandoned for most this generation (their own fault really).
And just look at how much of vapid, soulless, boring as fuck landscape this generation has been without them as a key player.
This generation of consoles and games has been fucking abysmal.
fag status; told. my body is ready for nintendo to reign supreme once more.
Would you buy a Nintendo Go if it had the same quality library and support as the Wii U plus the singular killer app of Breath of the Wild?
like if all you cared about was AA-AAA games, you'd get a new smash, new mario, new zelda and maybe 1 more title on par with mario maker or paper mario, then the rest is a few B-tier passable shit and rest is garbage
would that be enough for a $300 handheld for you?
X2 will easily be much better.
It's been in development for years and is the main thing Nvidia has been working towards. The X1 was using regular A53/57 cores while the X2 will be using their new custom denver cores as well as having a Pascal gpu.
The X1 will be 2 years old by the time the X2 is out, mobile market moves quick, especially when the xbone and ps4 have been outdated laptop junk since launch.
300$ is nothing.
They contributed maybe half a dozen titles of value last generation. Get over it. Nintendo has been creatively bankrupt for half nearly a decade.
>B-but, my splatoon
First completely new IP since fucking Pikmin in 2001. Congrats
>It won't be underpowered
FUCK YEAH, NINTENDOMINATION, BITCHES!
It's funny that the one generation where Sony dominated the home console market across the globe so much so that the competition is in the dust, is the generation with the blandest library of games overall. Yes, Sony had lead through the 5th and 6th gen, but the opposition still had some weight back then.
>first completely new IP since Pikmin
hate this meme
>First completely new IP since fucking Pikmin in 2001.
Ok so you don't know what you're talking about. Cool.
>next you'll ask me to list new IPs by Nintendo
>I will list them
>then you will say they're either shit or for casuals so they don't count
That's actually pretty fucking embarrassing for AMD, but then again it doesn't surprise me in the slightest that they're fumbling since the introduction of their Bulldozer microarchitecture. You're absolutely right user, I forgot the Jaguar and Puma are just low power mobile variants of a shitty under-performing microarchitecture.
>there are people on Sup Forums who unironically defend star cox zero and metroid udder m
>I only know things exist if they are marketed heavily and receive substantial press
Yep, you're definitely a Sonygger.
Don't really care about AAA personally. Western games don't appeal to me at all outside of Nintendo if you want to call it AAA. The look of the system only matters to see the way I will hold it. If they are going to abandon dual screen that kind of sucks since the two screens is one of the best things about the DS and 3DS. Specs matters not to me but playablity does.
For a portable system.
The X2 will put it around the playfield of the Xbone or a bit lower, and will not allow the system to for example run VR or 4k.
But with the nintendo optimization, you will get some great looking 1080p/60fps nintendo games.
people like (You)?
As I sure wasn't
I didn't even know other m was a wii u title.
List 5 new IPs Nintendo has put out since 2001
Hard mode: no handheld shit
Dante must die mode: main character has never appeared in a smash bros game
Jen-Hsun Huang say tegra will be used for Cars, Deep Learning, A.I, Drones, Robots, Embedded Applications inside buildings and cities
In 2010 gaming website already shared some shit about tegra in 2ds, they just restarts
NX handheld use tegra in dev kit for emulate the DMP M3000 GPU ready in Q1 2017
>will not allow the system to for example run VR or 4k.
Good. Fuck those things.
28nm Tegra x1's IGP is 1/3 of a GTX 750ti, with severely limited memory bandwidth, and it can't sustain its aggressive boost clocks without violating TDP for prolonged periods.
16nm FinFET+ can provide equal performance at 40%~ lower power compared to 28nm HPP, or something like 25% more performance. Architectural advantages of Pascal over Maxwell are pretty well documented, LPDDR4 improves memory bandwidth, and the rest is cake.
Realistically a doubling of performance is a reasonable expectation, and thats still not matching a discrete GTX 750ti.
The Xbone has 2 less active CU than Bonaire with lower clocks.
anandtech.com
>That's actually pretty fucking embarrassing for AMD
Its really not. For a design finalized in 2011 its incredibly impressive that. They offer K10 performance at 3.1mm2 in 28nm silicon, and 4 of them can hit 2ghz while consuming 10w.
They have greater throughput per die area than everything except Excavator, they even rivaled intel's Atom line, winning out in integer performance.
Not that I expect a shitposting tech illiterate Sup Forumsposter to understand this.
Tegra X1 has 256 maxwell cores. That's 40% of a 750ti.
Pascal is something like 70-80% more power efficient than Maxwell, so that's all the performance improvement you will see in Tegra X2.
Still below a 750ti. Still below current consoles.
Unless of course they stop giving a fuck about power consumption and make it a 20W chip or something.
list new IPs by nintendo that weren't casual garbage
anything capable of being AA/AAA titles in the action, action-adventure, shooter, rpg, whatever genres, not sports / puzzles / braingames
first party games only
>Hard mode: no handheld shit
>
>Dante must die mode: main character has never appeared in a smash bros game
Why? Did you realize you were wrong so your only option was moving the goalposts?
Good games automatically receive press. Nintendo rams its big releases up every publication's ass whenever it can
Way more dedication than Sup Forums ever deserves, but thanks for it anyway, user.
They're getting their shit together with the Zen stuff.
The bulldozer is in theory actually faster than the Zen because you can put more cores on the same space by using its tech.
But in pratice it fucking sucks because parallelizing code is something you just can't do in some cases, and its absolutely hell in others.
>I will list them
>then you will say they're either shit
>no handheld shit
You're fucking retarded, aren't you?
>moving the goalpost again
Yup, no point in talking with you.
How about you list games you like, that aren't shit. Pro tip: you can't.
Go for easy mode if that's all you can manage
I'll even let you count Luigi's Mansion even though it uses existing character assets
im a tech illiterate Sup Forumsirgin
what does all your gobblygook mean about where the X2 compares to Wii U, Xbone and PS4?
does that mean
>wii u
No, heavily marketed titles receive press. Good games frequently go under the radar on their release, becoming cult classics in future. It's not even a hard concept to understand - the more a company pushes a product, the more you'll get publications talking about it.
Like that Xenoblade bullshit? Is that even first party developed?
>VR or 4k.
Neither of the other consoles, or their upcoming upgrades, are really going to be able to do that either. Definitely not 4k.
Sony pushing PSVR is interesting, because on the face of it there's no way it's going to be anything close to the other VR experiences. But I guess I'll just have to see how they're intending to pull it off.
