The Gamecube controller is so deeply ingrained in the Smash community, literally years of muscle memory built around that controller.

Then someone sets up a Hitbox for Smash and can do all the same shit.

You think they'll ban it?

>B-but it looks like a professional gamepad

Another reason why people will eat up any goddamn thing with 'a e s t h e t i c s'. We really are a hopeless race of wide-eyed chimps

Smash bros is pure autism.

Whats the problem with it? it looks like the pads people bring to tourneys all the time

Its not technically using macros right? It has buttons to adgust the angle of the stick/triggers just like you would be able to on a real controller.

Because of the button rather thans sticks and triggers you will be able to do stuff not normally doable reliably

Some smash players believe this will change meta quite a bit

>ALl those buttons

LEL! It's a frackin party game for chr**** sake, no a competitive fighting game!

They already worried it'll affect tier list.

No one will use it.

I don't understand how this works, there are a million different angles possible with an analog stick. I like hitbox controllers for games with only 8-directional inputs or whatever, but won't this limit a player in a game like ssbm?

Why not make a fightpad with a stick instead?

Who is?

MEANWHILE People who play "fighting games" want it to be simpler.
Its a fighting game. stay mad fuckboi

I know all about it, watched both videos of it. Im just saying would these types of modifiers technically count as a macro?
Usually when people talk about macros it just means like you hit a button and it automatically does frame perfect/recorded/programmed inputs for you

Autists.

>million different angles
Only 360, retard.

My hands hurt just watching this.

Did you see all the angles you can get on the Fire Fox in that WEBM?

What do you guys think of Chazo?

Well that's more than 8

>degrees are finite numbers only

In a thread about Smash bros, are you really surprised by his response?

what's the issue here.

watch the trailer, you can do a lot of them

Try placing an aerial and you would find it impossible with no analog input.

Someone is playing Smash with a Hitbox instead of a Gamecube controller and is pulling off many of the most advanced and complex techniques in the game like they're nothing. As others have mentioned in the thread, this could change the entire meta if it's allowed.

That looks pretty good but I have a feeling it would affect high level play, and even if your in a PR that might not include you based on where you live.

You can have reliable tech skill up the ass but unless you understand smash fundamentals and spacing tech skill kinda doesn't mean shit in regards to low to mid tier melee play, its kinda funny how that works out but hey man smash is a wacky game.

>360 °
>What happens if you point your stick at 45,5°

>Implying pushing the meta is a bad thing.

Though I wish it somehow had an analog stick instead of 8 buttons. That's the only reason I'm not interested.

>Turn around pivots
>Shield dropping
>zomg multishines
>Turn around missles

this is some real 2013 shit and my state sucks ass at melee.

That's the entire point of the Hitbox: you use button inputs to replace the stick. It's no different from playing an eumlator with your keyboard to replicate control stick movement.

What does this button do?

>implying it's possible with gamecube analog

so then this stick will become the new meta and will be used from now on because if you don't use it you're at a disadvantage. What's the issue here.

That's the equivalent of banning people using sticks because it's harder to do a DP using standard pad or joystick than on arcade stick

Smash pros are fucking retards, the point of controllers is comfort. Some prefer pads, others prefer sticks, some prefer hitbox/keyboard. Makes no difference except that snashbabbies like to carry their tendinitis with pride. "I earned my fuckrd up hands playing smash competitively on a GCN controller, how DARE others play using drugs deferent methods"

It also really exposes how "deep" Melee is. Those moves look so simple now.

I thought it was more about easier button inputs for shit like mutlishines or aerial attacks without claw.

The issue seems to be that unlike other fighting games, Smash has only ever known one controllerL the Gamecube controller. Now that the Hitbox is revealed to be an option, people will want to see how the community reacts.

Consider the Hitbox as it's used for other fighters. Some find it much easier to mash out directional inputs with the buttons instead of the stick. Then again, 2D fighters have the benefit of only requiring the four cardinal directions.

>Then again, 2D fighters have the benefit of only requiring the four cardinal directions.
That's exactly my concern. Maybe all of the angle can be achieved somehow, or maybe it'll be one of those situations where the benefits outweigh the flaws, but an analog stick to me feels essential to Smash.

...

It's like the Bidou tech for Smash 4. It's with a controller nobody will bother using, especially at higher levels where everyone has over a decade worth of muscle memory with the GC controller. This won't affect the meta in the slightest.

To be fair in this case it seems the pad is designed specifically to make all of those things easier to do rather then just serve as an alternative controller scheme.

BAN THIS

why are smash 4 namefags/tripfags so autistic?

>have arcade stick for wii
>stick is set as dpad input so can't use it on smash
>yet smash allows wiimote worry dpad movement

FUCKING SAKURAI

any youtube vids on this? where has this been posted so i can see reactions

Just like how certain fight sticks are designed to make inputs easier in certain fighting games.

It anals

>banning different controllers
They can't be this autistic can they?

it technically has macros so banning wouldn't be surprising

Oh no not the meta of a 15 year old game

Be still my heart

It's not about making them easier, those games are usually designed with arcade sticks in mind

according to you fucktards both banning and not banning is it autistic.

IT has a macro which shouldn't be allowed but if it didn't have it the gamepad would be shit. Also it turns extremely hard moves into easy ones which I think is okay but people are autistic about it.

>Falling for bait
Need help with that hook?

This isn't a new thing or isolated to smash. Hotboxes have been banned from many fighting games because they allow you to do thinks developers didn't intend and potentially break the game.

Hell in marvel you were able to block both ways and become immune to crossups. But go ahead and jump to conclusions when you don't know anything

A fifteen year old game that has stayed relevant fifteen years it's release and still is one of the most popular competitive games ever that isn't DOTA 2 or LoL. Can the same be said about anything else?

It will

The controller itself looks cool but the second video is pure cancer, I can't watch it. Could someone tell me whether or not you can achieve all possible angles of an analog stick using this format? Because otherwise I think it would make more sense to have an analog stick as part of the controller, even if the buttons are used for basically everything it would be preferable to have the option to access the most precise angles when recovering with fox for example (you have plenty of time to move your hand to reach an analog stick when using fox's up b).

>can achieve all possible angles of an analog stick using this format?
Did you even watch first video?

You're delusional.

>Hotboxes have been banned from many fighting games
Bullshit. Only Marvel had problems and shit was fixed years ago.

I saw only 14 angles between 0 and 90 degrees but I don't want to assume that's all that the controller can do without confirmation.

Because the players are too autistic to move on. People would still be playing SF2 if 3 and so one were never made.

Smash players have to defend everything
Including why they're pedophiles

You're... Right

Maybe not technically, but I think it serves the same purpose. I personally wouldn't allow somebody to use it if it was up to me. Its not a 1:1 input and honestly, I think if the community adopted something that simplified things that are supposed to be really hard, it would ruin the game. The meta is already in a bad spot as people have gotten too good and the game has become more watered down since the widespread use of things like shield dropping, fox/falco shortens, etc.

STREET FIGHTER™ and TEKKEN™ and the like are tournament fighters

SUPER SMASH BROTHERS™ is a party fighter.

They can both be competitive, you DIPSHIT™

A party fighter isn't a genre. Fuck you and your made up terms.

Some sm4sh TOs ban pro controllers due to wireless being hard to deal with. But I play on a pro controller and I've never had that issue.

Except it is. There are enough games for it to be an actual genre, considering it's nothing like the current fighters and it's more than just a "party game"

They look simple because they are being isolated and done on a device specifically designed to trivialize them. You are already free to use any controller with a 1:1 input at most tournaments, using a controller that substitutes analog stick movements with button presses is cheating.

>it's harder to do a DP using standard pad than on arcade stick

american education at its finest

Yes because everything the smash community does is autistic.

That shit looks like it'd destroy my hands even more than a gamecube controller possibly could

You must have never used a fightstick then because they are much more comfortable and probably better for your wrists than a controller

>s because they allow you to do thinks developers didn't intend and potentially break the game.
That's literally the entire foundation of melee though.

It's crazy, 15 years and melee is still evolving. It really is deep compared to SFV, aka Infiltration wins everything with just Nash, which has barely evolved since release.

>fightstick
>better for your wrists than a controller

I have a Q4RAF, it feels less comfortable

If everything is autistic, nothing is.

Maybe its a bias thing then, i dunno. I primarily use controllers, obviously since I play melee. but when I play fighting or arcade games I find fightsticks way more comfortable. Wouldnt use this smashbox thing though.
