Can we get a Warcraft III thread going?

Can we get a Warcraft III thread going?

I'm still pretty new to this game and the AI keeps stomping me. 5 minutes in and his army is ready to storm my base. any tips?

What are the first three buildings you make?

Are you playing with insane? He cheats. Try normal, then two normals.
Are you playing defensively? Don't sit at your base, game is about heroes, you must level and equip them before the enemy.

Lumber mill, barracks, altar

Are you playing the campaign or skirmish?
Race?

GLAD

Easy

I do roam around leveling my hero but the AI just kills him with a massive army. I feel powerless outside my base.
Custom game

1. Build your hero first and always, generally when the game starts have a worker make a farm + alter and then start harvesting gold / lumber
2. Make 5 works for gold and then at least 5 (? it depends on race desu) for lumber, pull the lumber workers off when you need to build, never have workers sitting around.
3. When your hero spawns send them to an easy camp, these are highlighted in green on your minimap
4. Start building a barraks and getting some melee / ranged units.

I'd start with Humans as they are of course the easiest race to jump right into. Orcs are also pretty self explanatory. Stay away from Undead and Night Elves until you get the basics down or better yet just play the campaign.

YOU

Arent night elfs easier to start? They get wells that heal the heroes allowing you to farm more aggresively

COULD

BAKE

The base game's campaign is actually great in terms of teaching you how to play with the different races.

It also has great story, go play it srsly

SHIT

IT

NE lack really solid frontline early game and it sounds like OP is getting bodied by the CPUs army.

All the races arent that hard but Humans id say are the easiest given they have low cost units and units like priest and sorcerous which can be effective (at least against easy / medium) with 0micro.

best character in the game coming through

Alright I will.

Easier than death knight + crypt fiend spam?

Am i supposed to rush upgrades or just focus on building an army first?

>I'm still pretty new to this game and the AI keeps stomping me. 5 minutes in and his army is ready to storm my base. any tips?

What the fuck am I reading. Is this what children born after 1990 are capable of?

>I'm still pretty new to this game and the AI keeps stomping me
Play the campaign! The AI is brutal in regular games, but the campaign eases you into the game perfectly. It's one of the smoothest difficulty curves in gaming imho.

Alternately do the scummy thing I used to do and give yourself an AI ally. One of my favourite ways to play when I was a dumb kid who was complete trash at RTS games was to give myself to insane allies and have the rest of the computer players all be on separate teams on a 12 player map.

Easy don't build massive armies.
Are you engaging randomly? If you see that position is shit then retreat.
Are you using units that are complementary? If your starting hero is melee you can focus on ranged units for example and engage enemy as fast as you could to destroy his army (not base) and interrupt progression / isolate him. Don't forget to use hero skills. If you are bad at microing, healing, saving units just build expand as fast as you can and overhelm him with numbers.
On small maps you can win just with defense - AI burns all gold.
You can try map with forest borders at first to experiment with armies.
It is also cool to play with enemy AI buddy at first, he would help you survive initial attacks.

Army first

Upgrades take too long to do first, only start upgrading after you start having a small army (Couple of melee and range units+air/mages and some siege)

You should do the blacksmith ones as you get them though

Ally AI is also really good because they constantly creep and should help pace you for how fast you should creep.

Thanks, only multiplayer rts experience i have is sc2 and the warcraft bots were kicking my ass on medium

i agree with this man

The thing with the computer is that it is easily exploitable and builds the exact same mixed army every single time and cannot adapt. Because of this, making large quantities of air units will usually allow you to crush the computer with ease.
Take the orcs and build wind riders. That's it.

I forgot to say

DON'T

FORGET

TO MAKE

A HERO

If you are not used to having hero units, play the campaign, it actually forces you to micro-manage at some points

The campaign actually starts in the base game, not in FZ

>all these cool characters they had to ruin from WoW onwards

Don't remind me.

>Illidan's cuck being cool

WE WUZ HIGH ELVES AND SHIET

WC4 never

>Demoted to a five man instance
>Butt slave to the Burning Legion

>Play Warcraft 3
>Horde is trolls, goblins, tauren and orcs
>Huge barbarian and tribal asthetics.

Fast forward to 2016

>Horde is undead, pandas and elves shamining orcs for being orcs

Is the allegory to what is happening to white countries?

>Lousy pay, constant danger..

>Demoted to a five man instance

Wait really? I'm guessing in Legion?

IT'S ANUB'ARAK ALL OVER AGAIN

Good point. You are good at leveling hero if you are cucking him with delicious creepsluts. I think easy AI + player vs normal, then easy AI + player vs three independent normals, then easy AI + player vs normal and easy AIs is a smooth progression.

That's why Vanilla is best user

I've replayed the campaign a couple times over the years, but i always played it slow and took my time

Art unconsciously imitating life, I suppose.

This happened at the end of Burning Crusade.

Would you want WC4 with current blizzard?

in the sunwell patch for BC

But Kael was a raid-boss.

Lumber mill ROFLMAO, you messing about, mate.

Build order is altar, farm, barracks, farm, arcane vault... Etc.

Also, only have 5 peasants on gold

Magister's Terrace.

t. wrath babby

I'm confused. Don't you need lumber for all that?

>SC2 and D3 released
>wants WC4 after that
Please no
I don't want incredibly terrible writing and pacing ruin what I love.

>When Kael'thas is defeated he falls to the floor and can be looted. However, it turns out that he is not truly dead — he returns to shout out a warning to everyone in Shattrath City when the heroes turns in proof of his "demise":
>Silence descends upon Shattrath.
>A'dal's thoughts invade your mind.
>A'dal yells: Kael'thas Sunstrider has been defeated by and (his/her) allies
>A'dal yells: The time to strike at the remaining blood elves of Tempest Keep is now. Take arms and let A'dal's song of battle empower you!
>Kael'thas Sunstrider yells: Your monkeys failed to finish the job, naaru! Beaten but alive... The same mistake was not made when we took command of your vessel

I feel stupid.

Castle

>least I get to hobknob with royalty

Wc3 also still plays well to this day, hell the world editor is less clunky than sc2s and the community is still active (tho slow)

Just pick Undead, build 4 upgraded Meat Wagons, about 9 upgraded Necromancers and 2 Obsidian Statues, upgrade skeleton attack and defense, move them somewhere outside the enemy base, summon skellies at regular intervals and send them to the enemy with Attack Move, while slowly, SLOWLY, moving towards the base

illidan kael and vashj were the broest team .

All Blizzard had to do with the world editor was copy paste it and add some more utility. What they managed to do instead was create a convoluted nightmare where you didn't even own the ideas you made with it.

Kael felt so dignified in WC3. Even as he descended to questionable alliances and choices, he had an air of superiority about him. You really felt he was doing the best he could, given the circumstances.

Then he turned into a mewling idiot in TBC, especially during Sunwell.

After Dota came into being, do you really think they would not make sure to tick that box?

From a business perspective, it's the correct thing to do. The amount of asshurt they got from losing Dota to Valve was of mythic proportions.

But no one in their right mind would say that them being able to take an idea off a map maker and not compensate them in any way is a fair trade.

You mean how Icefrog approached Blizzard about making Dota its own thing and got told to go away
They got nobody to blame but themselves

>From a business perspective, it's the correct thing to do.

Nope. It's going to hamper creativity.

Who played footman frenzy like me?

That should have become a game rather than dota.

Yeah I know they deserve it. I just mean in their little out of touch business mindset they would in no way let any idea spring forth from their property without maintaining SOLE control over it.

Just make vjass a core part of triggers, fix the massive amounts of leaks that you can introduce, and put local variables in the GUI.

Also maybe brush up some of the wierdness in the object editor (certain spells have hidden constants and interactions like brewmasters kit) but dont go full retard like sc2s data editor.

i was never great at this game but i always wanted to play.
it was fun but I got smashed so much.
any people still playing that aren't rape mode? or infested with bots

That was one of the few games I could never really get into. It was always such a chaotic mess and it relied more on luck than strategy given that if the other teams happened to focus you you were fucked anyway, and if they didn't you'd have an easy win.

I have a weird craving for X Hero Siege right now.

you can play on w3arena or netease

Lyn = GOD

>mfw nobody plays customs on AU anymore
>not even hostbots

alter, barrack, pop building

ANYONE HATES THESE FAGGOTS WHO SENDS BLADE MASTERS TO KILL YPUR PEASENTS SO YOU CAN NOT FARM RESOURCES
FUUUUUUUCK MULTIPLAYER MELEE

Am I correct in believing that the current meta looks to be all about being an annoying piece of shit at the earliest possible time?

The high level games I saw seems to have early game harassment and hinderance down to a science. Seems to be a result of people theorycrafting counters against overpowered races and strats

So, what's your favorite custom map guys?

Case in point

Evolution of Might and Magic.

I've seen less than 10 games of it ever happen in years of playing on battlenet, but it's still a personal favourite.

I loved it because I had two friends (roommates) that played with me the whole time. We basically ran the show. There's nothing better than actually being their next to year teammates. I miss it.

We started WoW in beta together. I started a human paladin and a guy I still talk to to this day was like "nope tauren shaman." They used to RAPE in pvp.

>Am I correct in believing that the current meta looks to be all about being an annoying piece of shit at the earliest possible time?
More or less, but that's how it tends to be with most rts games. Scout quickly to find your opponents location and what their strat is, then disrupt them and build expansions until you're ahead of them, then destroy them with overwhelming force.

kaelthas isn't black, why are you talking like that?

i always thought this was the easiest strategy, pretty easy to stomp normal CPU like this

What exactly killed the custom game scene
SC2?

>one of the major patches in Legion will introduce kael again and reveal that magister's terrace was just another setback
i'm fucking calling it

Customs games are dead
>Don't play -exactly- how one person wants you to play
>Instantly try to kick you
>Everyone votes yes without even trying to find out why

>We started WoW in beta together. I started a human paladin and a guy I still talk to to this day was like "nope tauren shaman."
Shit man, that's almost the exact same as what happened with a friend and neighbour of mine. We were both hyped as fuck for WoW, but then after it released I always wanted to be on the Alliance and he always wanted to be on the Horde.

>I had two friends (roommates) that played with me the whole time
For a while before Dota 2 was properly released, I used to play with a bunch of friends on Gameranger. We'd always stack up as a team of 5 and end up destroying pubs because the average skill level over there was probably the equivalent of 1000MMR. Great fun though. We'd be able to try all sorts of stupid gimmicky strats.

Literally never happened

Kel'thuzad (US)

I accidentally told the main tank of my guild that he was giving gold to a guy. He pretending to be a girl and the other two of us basically out-ed him to the whole guild

>I'm in love with Terumi
>dude you know he's a guy right?
>no, no way I gave him over 10,000 gold
>no dude he's a guy last a checked mate
>FUUUUUUCK

Funniest guild chat ever.

>Grubby streams WC3 every weekend
>Moon streams WC3 every day
What a time to be alive

So what do you guys think of the rumors that Blizzard is going to remaster WC3 for an HD release, is it needed?

The mechanics of the game makes it look much cuntier than normal harassments though. Blademasters rushing in for creep steals and run away and buying out heals in store against Undead players etc.

don't tell me you've been missing the tournaments where lyn dominated the chinese

>Grubby streams WC3 every weekend
I thought he played that HoTS garbage for a living

No.
I really wish for warcraft with 24 player slot instead of 12 and maps over 8mb
One can dream

I'm playing the campaign for the first time and i reached the orc campaigns
No, i actually played some years ago when i was like 12 but fuck it was hard playing it on Easy
Is there any tips that someone can give?
As much i love playing rts, i'm also the scrubbiest player ever when it's about those games.
I also had real issues on the last minute of the undead campagin (which i solved it with a shitloads of towers)

Gera Cup every sunday and WCA qualifiers.

>tfw years later, I still make campaigns, single player RPGs and small multiplayer party maps for myself and my friends

Along with NWN, WC3 has the best editor in the world. Perfect blend of accessibility and options.

You guys played the 2 player campaigns?
They're good

Dawn of the Dead, the one where everyone's inside a mall and one of the player's is a psycho who's objective is to open the mall doors and kill everybody.

Pretty sure NE mass huntress + PotM as second or even first hero is by far the easiest strategy.

Werewolf is pretty cool, too bad no one wants to play it anymore.
