I'm so glad Vanillaware exists. I just Platinum'd Odin Sphere Leifthrasir, Dragon's Crown and Muramasa Rebirth and it was so worth it. These games have such great gameplay on top of gorgeous 2D visuals. Currently trying to 100% the Demon Child DLC in Muramasa and it's so worth it.

What's your favorite of the vanillaware games? pic related

Princess Crown

Dragon's Crown is my favourite. That being said I haven't had a chance to play Odin Sphere

>Story never changed
>Legitimately was so traumatized by the original PS2 version that I can't even bring myself to play this
Feels terrible.

I'm on velvet's story now

I am so fucking burned out, even after a months break

I think I have two stages left with her, how much epilogue is there?

It's 5 boss fights

Grand Knight History, honestly. Real shame that it never got a Western release. It's quality game that more people need to play.

Also its spiritual successor, Grand Kingdom, got a Western release a couple of months ago. Well worth the plunge if you're into SRPGs and/or the Vanillaware style.

I really want to play that, but fuck NISA.
I'll get it used, or at most when it's 10 bucks on a sale.

Despite being dlc Genroku Legends is my most favourite game to come out of Vanillaware

Epilogue is a boss rush, if you want every single outcome from the epilogue, its going to 3 or 4 runthroughs and thats a tough fucking slog.
Odin Sphere is a lovely game but it bruned my out the most of Muramasa and Dragons Crown with repeated shit

They just keep getting better and better. They even got DLC right at the first jab.

They're alright. I remember complaining while playing Muramasa (Wii) but in the end I finished the quest for both characters. Mainly because it looks pretty as hell. I can't remember much about Odin Sphere, maybe I should play the new one.

On another note, why is every single couple to come out of a Vanillaware game so perfect?

>tfw waiting for Dragons Crown for my vita in the mail

I already got Odin Sphere and this game feels so fun to play.

Sentenials release when??

You're missing out senpai, it's really good. Disgaea 5 is good, too.

Decent OST, as well.

Muramasa Rebirth I feel is the best Vanillaware, especially after the DLC with Rajyaki. Both endings are fantastic and made me smile from ear to ear for the rest of the day once I finished them.

>These games have such great gameplay
Lol

It's a shame Muramasa Rebirth is Vita only. I'd kill for PS3\PS4 release. Really enjoyed both Dragon's Crown and Odin Sphere.

How do I git gud with Longsword in Muramasa Rebirth? It just so slow compared to normal sword.

Vanillaware game*

Can't wait to get Vanillaware games on PC running at 4k/60fps.

I'm pretty sure games are already 60fps. And 4k will give you nothing since it's 2d sprites anyway. But PC release is always welcome, yeah.

Yes Gladium, we know. You bring it up in quite literally every Vanillaware thread.

Grand Kingdom is just OK. It has a really amazing style and flow, but the actual gameplay itself is pretty imbalanced and repetitive. And the story is just trope fantasy.

I mainly used those for special arts or catching multiple enemies in a combo but I've gone through most of my playthroughs with a regular sword

How do I get through this midget fire spam?

I kind of luckily beat her by spamming special art for invincibility during her last phase fire spam.

where dem fairy wimmin at

I recently replayed Dragon's Crown and I didn't like it so much anymore. The gameplay felt kinda clunky and it was sometimes hard to tell what was going on (I was playing as the Wizard). Odin Sphere Leifthrasir was so fucking good though. My god the gameplay. Simply amazing. Shame that Dragon's Crown didn't stand the test of time despite being only, what, 3 years old?

Stay mad, console peasant, we will eventually steal all of your """""exclusives""""" just like we did with NieR.

How do feel knowing that you're having less and less reasons to own a console?

I'm an idort Arthur, I don't really mind either way.

>we
Ruggarell would be proud.

Nioh
Bloodborne
3 more Sony exclusive titles by From Software

Honestly, I have no reason to play on my PC anymore since I all the decent games are multiplat and all the good games are Sony exclusive. But I'm glad you get to play some nice games as well.

strawpoll.me/11026916

stopped halfway through Cornelius.
It's just way to repetitive and going trough the same shit 3 more times, no fuck that shit.

Is the Star Ocean 5 platinum as hilariously long-winded as the SO4 one?

Nioh is a timed exclusive since they announced as a "console exclusive", meaning that will be released on PC as well.

Bloodborne runs at 20fps.

And we don't have any info about these From Software """""exclusives"""".

Yep, no reason to buy a NogamesStation 4.

Wow Strawpoll new font is cancer.

Ready for the 30 bosses boss rush mode :^)

Star Ocean 5 was garbage. Why would you want to play it? By the 8 hour mark I was already praying for the suffering to end. When I finally did end up getting to the final boss, the asshole bugged out on me. I read up online and saw that most people had the same problem as me. I just returned the shitty game to the store after that.

No.

Last strawpoll style was more cancerous. This one at least sorts the votes again by majority.

I lost interest 3/4th through Mercedes storyline. It just felt like I was playing the same game for the 3rd time with the expectation I'd be playing it 5 times to get all the characters.

>Nioh is a timed exclusive since they announced as a "console exclusive", meaning that will be released on PC as well.
Source: your anus

>Bloodborne runs at 20fps
Source: your anus

>And we don't have any info about these From Software """""exclusives"""".
Probably next year we will after the first batch of DaS3 DLC rolls out

>Yep, no reason to buy a NogamesStation 4.
Yeah, other than Kingdom Hearts 3, Persona 5, FF15, Horizon Zero Dawn etc.

Odin Shpere > Muramasa > Dragon's Crown
I know what you mean. I played it recently and the ending totally broke me. I wasn't expecting something like that

Holy fuck the gameplay in Odin Sphere is so fucking good, it's basically a 2D DMC

It's definitively repetitive but the gameplay is so great it doesn't matter that much

Just search for the announcement trailer.

Digital Foundry.

>Kingdom Hearts 3
Oh, """""exclusive""""" just like NieR, right?

>Persona 5
Also on PS3, not to mention that PS3 emulation is advancing pretty fast and we will soon be able to play it. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the PS3 version emulated on PC would run better than on PS4.

>FF15
Square Enix plans to rebuild the game from zero just for us, PC master race gamers, since the console version runs like crap.

>Horizon Zero Dawn
Really? No one cares about this shit.

>Oh, """""exclusive""""" just like NieR, right?

Hahaha

>Really? No one cares about this shit.
Sour grapes

>console war autists in a Vanillaware thread
Please fuck off.

>Horizon Zero Dawn
>Really? No one cares about this shit.
You would care if it was announced to be coming to PC.

"Source: your anus" is the only argument you have? No wonder sonyggers are most cancerous fanbase on Sup Forums.

Maybe, I honestly don't care about garbage that runs at 30fps.

I bought a vita just for the muramasa dlc.
Worth every currency spent

It's quite literally one autist, senpai.

Speaking of which, Arthur, where's your nightly Persona 5 PC port thread?

>still $59.99 at every single retailer
And that's why I refuse to buy it.

it came out 2 months ago

It's not an argument, it's a statement. I'm not arguing with you, because arguments happen between adults. You're a child and I'm an adult, so I tell you how it is, I do not need to "argue" with you.

>What's your favorite of the vanillaware games?
Muramasa Rebirth certainly, although I've not played Odin Sphere Leifthrasir, so I don't know if the changed battle mechanics would endear me to that one in the same way.

You can try the demo for free.

>These games have such great gameplay
Wat? They're shallow as shit. The art is alright, but the rest is just shallow button bashing without any gameplay improvements whatsoever. Vanillaware is the #1 developer that literally "keeps getting away with it"

Dragon's Crown is my favorite. Got a few hundred hours out of it, really loved all the support it got after release. That last patch that added the extra difficulty mode and a ton of new gear effects really kept me playing for a long time.
Amazon is the best.

GrimGrimoire

Plz stop with the consolewar shitposting in this thread. I want Vanillaware games on PC too (especially Dragon's Crown) but plz don't shit up the thread.

Underrated AF. Arguably Vanillaware's most gorgeous artwork, with the full size breathing sprites. IDC if it was a glorified visual novel, I'd be a Leifthrasir-style remake in 1080p in a heartbeat. Also it gets points because I'm a huge yurifag.

>dat bubble booty

Disagree. GrimGrimoire was a pretty decent single-player RTS with the quirk that it was side-scrolling. Odin Sphere OG had a huge emphasis on planning and strategy because of how taxing the POW meter was, mashing just made you dizzy yourself. Muramasa and Odin Sphere L have combos for days and neat nuances with animation cancels. Dragon's Crown is only mashy on a couple of classes, and goddamn that game has builds for days on the classes.

Odin Sphere L plays exactly like Muramasa but without the breaking weapons mechanic... and it's also extremely easy. Play on Hard for even a little challenge, you don't get the NG+/Hell difficulties until you beat the game. Still incredibly fun, and worth just to play a Vanillaware game at 60/1080. So gorgeous.

Am glad am not the only one that remembers this game, I hope they remake it. The gameplay was great too aside from the almost hour long survival missions. The story was also good it reminded me of Steins Gate. Loved the artwork and character designs too.

Yea I liked the gameplay a lot, but eventually I got tired of the super-long survival missions and set the difficulty to Sweet and spammed Chimeras + Grimalkins just so I could progress the plot.

If they do ever remake the game, then they either need to get rid of or severely lower the time on the Survial missions.

My only compain about Leifthrasir is how there's no Very Hard mode or something. Hard is a bit too easy and Heroic is just too annoying, I don't like those "lol you die in one hit" difficulties. Always liked DMD over Hell and Hell.

I need to buy Odin's Sphere and GrimGrimoire so bad. Murasama is in my top 10 of all time and Dragon's Crown is in my top 10 beat em ups.

Also I felt like once you get past the awe of OMFG DRAGONS, dragon's actually kinda sucked. Low DPS for such an expensive creature. But it's also been almost 10 years since I played the game so maybe I remember bad.

HEY GUYS HAVE SOME POINTERS FOR MURAMASA REBIRTH:

-Do yourself a huge favor and re-assign block and dodge roll to the shoulder buttons and fight with the D-Pad not the L-Stick. The game will control so much better. Especially about the rolling, it has iFrames and cancels out of almost any move so you can dodge shit. But Down + Diagonal is so fucking unresponive and clunky, have assigned to a button so you can iFrame dodge on a dime. I think this advice will help out a lot.

-Holding block will make you unable to die as long as the hit didn't shatter your blade. No seriously, block in a state while you can't block and you will lose no HP. If you die, you'll just instantly recover and get your HP back. Shit works. Insanely useful for Fury mode runs. Another reason to reassign your block button. But be careful again, if you wind up blocking and getting your blade shattered instead of getting hit, you'll just die.

>implying I have a Vita to play Muramasa

If you don't want to shell out for a Vita but are still willing to spend some money, you can play it on a PSTV which cheap. I think a package that comes with a PS3 controller and a Vita memory card is $50. Hook it up to your TV and play it like a console game.

I personally got a Vita just for Muramasa and portable Dragon's Crown. Worth. Might even buy OS again just to play it portably, good thing it has cross-save.

Plus that new robot game that VW are doing under Atlus is a PS4/Vita release too iirc

>Down + Diagonal is so fucking unresponive and clunky, have assigned to a button so you can iFrame dodge on a dime
That's exactly what I did when I started playing. I'll never understand why they didn't use the R button by default for dodging

Does the R button even do anything by default? IDR. Vanillaware control schemes can be so dumb sometimes.

Change the swords I think.

Is the translation ROM is a playable state yet?

I never had a problem with the down + diagonal dodge. Mind you, I'm a big supporter of allowing key rebinding (Mega Man X/Zero and Ikaruga feel terrible without dash or flip, respectively, on the shoulders) but I wouldn't want to change that in Muramasa. But if it works for other people that's fine.

I agree that the d-pad for controls feels a lot better than the thumbpad.

>Holding block will make you unable to die as long as the hit didn't shatter your blade
>Bladder shatters if I so much as holding block longer than 1.5 second

What did I do wrong?

>Bladder shatters
Wow that came out very wrong and disturbing.

How long does it take to platinum this one? Ive been playing for over 30 hours and I haven't even beat Cornelius's chapter

>Ive been playing for over 30 hours and I haven't even beat Cornelius's chapter
what the heck

It took me around 50 hours. The most annoying trophy is the one related to the restaurant. You only need to do a bunch of extra stuff after the main story is finished to platinum it.
However, I don't know why are you taking so long. Every chapter lasts from 7 to 10 hours to beat, even in the hardest difficulty available from the start.
