will smart watches ever advance to the point of being as cool as pipboys?
Will smart watches ever advance to the point of being as cool as pipboys?
I don't get it. How is a "smart-watch" supposed to hold an inventory? Or do you just type in "1 stimpack" and put it in your backpack?
So, does the pipboy administer the drugs, or is it just a catalogue that shows you what you have, so you can administer it manually?
it just tells you what you have so you can keep track of it, I'm pretty sure. the items aren't in the pipboy
Pip-Boys are actually quite primitive. Bare in mind computer technology is severely lagging behind in Fallout compared to actual real world computer science and technology. The Fallout-verse focused more on weapons, robotics and medicine.
So it's just a wrist-mounted rugged tablet with a fallout OS
"we've included a small storage port right here that's big enough for stashing a small amount of drugs, for when you're on the go and you gotta get that yayo"
God I hope so. I have a fetish for girls wearing wristwatches.
not him but to add a little bit more, it makes total sense it evolved this way given the conditions. It was a nuclear fallout after all, theres no time, resources or need to make more technological advancement than just the pure basics. Would make sense to invest in weapon, robotics and medicine.
I was talking about before the war. Technology was going in a totally different direction pre-war. They had those awful flat, black and white TV's and green-text only computers when we had flat-screen plasma screen televisions and desktop user interfaces.
Well, remember fallout pre-war was around the 1950s (1960s perhaps?). Then war broke out, everything went to shit. They did not have the resources or time to make these technological advancement we managed to do from 1950 to 2016.

Go back to R eddit now, you're not welcome
Enjoy charging your watch every 30 hours
battery's haven't advanced one bit in like 10 years
fuck you pal, my last phone lasted a day on average after charging for an hour and a half
my current one charges for 20 mins and i'm good for 3 days
battery technology has skyrocketed, it's just not in anyone's interest to spend the money on improving the battery when everyone cares about bullshit features and gimmicks.
Tesla is one of the only companies that work closely with battery technology, which is why their next car is reasonably priced despite lasting a few hundred KM on a full charge (minimum)
It was late in the 2000s that the nuclear war happened, like 2070s or so. Fallout universe follows 1950s American popular perceptions of technology and how it'd advance so they don't have any modern stuff and everything is sidegrade. It's why you have giant ants and scorpions in F1&2 due to mutations plus 2 headed cows.
Yeah if nobody calls you it lasts a long time right?
>Pipboy
>Being cool or even practical
You just want a wrist tablet.
What ever happened to that google glass thing where one of the ads was just some chick getting the shit beaten out of her by her boyfriend?
The war started in 2077. The 50's aesthetics and lifestyles simply persisted in this alternate reality.
>persisted
I just figured that technology evolved late. I'd love to see the actual divergent point between that reality and ours. Maybe they never discovered electronics for one reason or another, and stuck to vacuum tubes. Maybe the second world war never happened, or more nukes were dropped on Japan, and it never became an electronics R&D powerhouse.
wrist-tablets will probably be a thing, and everyone loves autistic survival-aesthic shit so once that turns smart I can wear that along with cargo shorts and basketball sneakers
>battery technology has skyrocketed, it's just not in anyone's interest to spend the money on improving the battery when everyone cares about bullshit features and gimmicks.
in exactly the same manner that power grid improvents don't lead to lower power bills, phone batteries getting better aren't going to lead to longer-lasting phone charge.
As the battery gets better, phones get more advanced (and hence demanding) processors and screens and speakers and 4G internet connections. an iPhone 6 battery is vastly superior to an iPhone battery, but they probably run for a similar amount of time.
How the fuck do you even develop a fetish like that?
>I'd love to see the actual divergent point between that reality and ours.
It's roughly around the time when the first transistor was invented.
...wat? I need to see this for reasons...
It's actually just after the transistor was developed. They didn't have the semiconductor yet.
pretty sure smartwatches have a notepad app
Huuurrrr i put one water bottle in my backpack let me write it down
>computer technology is severely lagging behind in Fallout compared to actual real world computer science and technology
Exactly this, computer hardware technology was developed extremely slowly as if no-one invented the microchip or discovered miniaturization.
However areas like medicine and nuclear power made great strides, to the point where cars were powered by miniature fusion power plants.
The pip-boy wouldn't be anything like the game version, it's pretty much a portable Radio/Geiger Counter/Biometric Monitor/Simple computer interface.
In the Fallout world transistors weren't invented until 10 years before the great war (too late to implement them) and the microchip wasn't invented until the very day before the war.
Fuck if I know. My dick likes what it likes.
Since you niggers are talking about Fallout, is vanilla New Vegas fun? i heard it's horribly balanced, but still want my first playthrough to be vanilla. Wat do?
Vanilla is perfectly fine, why would it be imbalanced?
It's fine, I would recommend getting a mod that removes the piss filter though.
>In the Fallout world transistors weren't invented until 10 years before the great war (too late to implement them) and the microchip wasn't invented until the very day before the war.
Then the whole setting makes literally zero sense, because power armor requires an exoskeleton, which, in turn, requires an on-board CPU that is used to convert the motions of the wearer into electrical motor rotations and thus move the exoskeleton limbs.
Since computers are fuckhuge in Falloutverse due to transistor tech being not wide-spread enough and there's obviously no processor strapped to the power armor suits in-game, power armor moves literally via magic.
I disagree. Internet Neckbeard is expert in science and technology, including fictional science and technology.
Why next you'll be telling me there can't be giant ants in Fallout because we currently have no means to make giant ants in reality.
Welcome to post FO2. FO1 and 2 had them powered by a nuclear core and, along with an air scrubber and such, didn't really have any of the computer components until FO3 and beyond.
With aliens as far back as 1603, I can't help but wonder if there isn't more divergence before that. Popular brands and technologies were developed before that time, too.
Does a Rolex make you cum on the spot?
Kinda, yeah.
>wrist-mounted rugged tablet
man, fuck that. the problem is today's smart watches depend on your phone. if you just made one that's independent it would be great.
>pulse monitor and diagnostic interface that can tell a lot from a small drop of blood
>GPS for map/location display
>you can add friends who also have a smartpipboy so you can tell where they are (when they let you)
>walkie talkie so you can talk to them if they are within range so you don't need to depend on cellphone towers
>clock, temp info, weather info pulled when you have wifi
there, you can do all that and keep it only slightly bigger than a Gshock watch and you're set.
>wrist-mounted pipboy
Disgusting.
