This was actually a pretty good game
This was actually a pretty good game
Homecoming is better.
Fight me.
It was a bad game, and a bad silent Hill game.
At least it's better than homecoming.
No, it wasn't, you idiot. You're probably the same kind of idiot that likes the Silent Hill movie.
Explain yourself
The mandatory twist was pretty ass and the monster design was uninspired. The stuff with the DJ and the postman also took me right out of the story and introduced other rules in an already bloated horror setting.
Enemies sucked ass and the story was meh at best.
I don't get how it's possible for Homecoming and Downpour to look worse than the games that came out a generation earlier.
They're shit and you have shit taste.
But Downpour is probably better than Homecoming or the PSP one.
Anything beyond Silent Hill 4 is complete and utter trash and doesn't understand what made Silent Hill great.
nice horror game, bad silent hill
Just like Homecoming
We talking about game, not about game as part of series
See this retard for example
SH Origins is better than 4 2bh
>we
[TRIGGERED]
Shattered memories is better than garbage like SH3 and 4
NO
4 really isn't very good either.
>Pockets of TVs and shifting dimensions on your own
No, that destroyed the atmosphere.
Homecoming had better monster designs, especially the bosses. That's about it.
Downpour had a more original story, more interesting segments (the theatre, cinema, and the town in general), sidequests, and the Otherworld wasn't just a copy of the movie version. The blacklight was an awesome addition as well.
Except Shattered Memories.
>garbage like SH3
I can always understand people being kind of split on SH4, but 3? Really? That's the high point of the series.
Too action oriented
Main character is so bland you can't care about her
Cult bullshit
People love it only because it was their first SH game
Time to shill The Real Silent Hill Experience again
Or maybe because it continues the story of the best Silent Hill game(which is 1)?
>Cult bullshit
Oh you mean that entire thing Silent Hill was based on. Yeah, what bullshit.
>not caring about Heather
What the fuck is wrong with you?
oh my
Never played book of memories, but vocal version of love psalm is pretty nice
>Too action oriented
What? How? Why? When?
Never fealt any more action oriented to me. It's the same as SH2.
I thought it was okay, but those mazes all the time were fucking lame
What's wrong with 4?
How to spot a SH2 baby.jpg
Can't even tell if you're joking or not.
It did it terrible
SH1 was nice mostly because how dark and fucked up characters were, and atmosphere, and you playing as father who wants to find his daughter
Nothing of it was in the 3rd game
Cult should be forgotten after first game
To me it seemed like there were a lot more enemies.
The atmosphere was awesome and the soundtrack is okay, but I woudn't say its any better than okay. Same for homecoming, it's just okay. The combat sucks ass though, but the vibe was stellar.
If you're talking about zero you can politely frick off. Zero was fantastic imo.
Can totally agree with this.
Thank you.
No its not.
Can we all just agree that as whole, the soundtracks to the games are better than the games themselves? 1-3 are pretty cool, but soundtracks to all of the games (save for downpour, which wasn't Akira) are phenomenal.
The only thing that I didn't like about it is that I couldn't actually explore the old silent hill town again.
Still better than 2 though, not better than 1.
...
Mary Elizabeth McGlynn became boring pretty fast
Vocals were a mistake
Everything about it is irritating. The invincible ghost enemies everywhere, the limited inventory, the cumbersome melee combat, the fact that the entire second half is an escort mission through areas you've already been.
Plus it's not scary at all. Everything is well lit and it doesn't come anywhere close to the atmosphere of the first three games.
>sh2
>scary
bait
I like the vocal songs, but I wish they hadn't totally replaced the instrumentals. I still listen to the ones from SH2 all the time.
Why did Team Silent stop making Silent Hill games anyway? Did they just not feel like it anymore?
>yfw there are now more bad SH games than good SH games
Invincible ghost enemies
The game is designed around fleeing those enemies, monsters that you have to flee from is a staple of horror games, there's nothing wrong with them mechanically and they're not out of place.
>Limited inventory
It's a horror game. This is fine.
>Cumbersome melee combat
I don't remember it being that bad, maybe it was, I forget.
>Second half of the game is an escort mission
Again, nothing inherently wrong with this and I think this aspect of the game was well integrated- particularly its effect on the endings.
Being different from its predecessors doesn't make it bad.
>it doesn't come anywhere close to the atmosphere of the first three games
I personally feel like each game has it's own distinct atmosphere.
1 has it's industrial vibe, 2 feels almost dream-like, 3 feels like you've straight up gone to hell, but 4 gives off a feeling I can't quite put my finger on.
I think all of the original 4 are just as atmospheric as each other, in their own special way.
Konami literally wanted them replaced with Western shovelware devs.
They were forcefully disbanded by Konami because Konami felt the games would be better with a Western developer because Konami HQ is a bunch of suits who have probably never even played a video game.
>Being different from its predecessors doesn't make it bad.
But downpour is bad because it's nothing like old SH games!
Konami is literally the devil.
>Being different from its predecessors doesn't make it bad.
When the things that make them different are bad it does.
>Silent Hill favorite horror series
>Suikoden favorite JRPG series
>both are dead in the hands of actual retards
I agree, but there wasn't anything like that in SH4. All of the changes were fine.
b8
Bait.
The limited inventory didn't add anything to the gameplay other than frustration and the second half of the game was "same shit, different shoes" in settings that's weren't particularly engrossing the first time around.
nah
I'd say why, but these two fucks mostly got it covered
>Good game
>Walk through the streets
>Enemies begin to fight you whenever you pass through the streets
>You can fight back with your fists or weapons (which you can hold a limited amount of)
>Turns out they can tank many hits and so can you
>It basically turns into a fucking beat em up
>You're basically playing SH: Final Fight edition
Kek, if you liked this garbage you have shit taste
the limited inventory was there so you'd have to go back to your room
...
Gross.
>no SH guide user
what the fuck is this shit
I've seen so much hate for Homecoming and Downpour that I think it's finally time for me to get my hands dirty. Gonna start replaying the series today and work my way up.
For 2-4, PC or emulation? Or Remaster?
Homecoming
>What if we made an indirect sequel to silent hill 2?
Downpour
>What if we made another indirect sequel to silent hill 2?
Shattered Memories
>What if we remade silent hill 1, but made it as an indirect sequel to silent hill 2?
Big whoop, it didn't make the game any more interesting.
hot DAMN
The ghosts suck because they discourage exploration. You can't take in the scenery because there's always an invincible enemy who hurts you just by being nearby.
this
downpour is poorly written and a boring game
I played it on release and enjoyed it but said on my live stream back then that
"this is an ok scary game, better than most indie garbage titles out there. but it's NOT a Silent Hill game at all. it's nowhere near as good as the classics."
>Or Remaster?
REEEEEEEEEEEE STOOOOOOOOOP. DONT DO THAT
PC version of SH2 is fine. PC version of SH3 is pretty buggy so you might want to emulate that one.
...
>Konami lets Tomm Hulett do retarded shit repeatedly for over half a decade
>cancels the first project by anyone else
It's a shame too because if they would have let him do that to Contra instead of Silent Hill it would have been a decade of good games. Contra 4 was awesome.
>DONT DO THAT
Just jokes, user.
I'll just experiment when I get to them. I think I might even still have my PS2 copies.
Thanks
Contra Gear X > Regular Contras
Just watched their Book Of Memories review. Not as good as the Downpour review but, very nice.
Muh boy.
>Muh boy with equally retarded tastes
Cant believe there's two of you.
Nah, Homecoming is more like:
>What if we made a game out of the Silent Hill movie, shoved Silent Hill 2's plot twists into it and toss in a dash of Hostel/SAW torture porn?
Shattered memories is still shit though
>release a shitty game on a nintendo console
>nintendrones defend it to the death
every time
And pyramid head out of the fucking toilet for no reason at all
the only things I remember about the game is bad designs, unacceptable frame drops and Stephen Hawking as final boss. In my humble opinion, the game isn't good because of previously stated reasons.
And copied the gameplay style of RE4 because everyone thinks of mowing down waves of enemies when they think of Silent Hill.
SM at least stood out as something different amongst the deluge of derivative or broken shit that was post-Silent SH.
Holy shit I have literally never noticed those Portishead posters before
that's a neat detail
I can hear some of the influence
SH1 was filled with culture to fuck.
sh4 was the scariest and 2 was the best all around experience
fight me
If I'm not mistaken, Murphy had no real reason to be in Silent Hill anyway.
The series ended on SH3, but nice try weeding out newfags.
I'm saying scary not good
Since it never came out, we'll never know.
Theme of laura is best track in the game
love psalm is though
I honestly think Homecoming was a better game than Downpour, still shit though.
let's see, downpour was developed by literal rookies, you can tell because the shitty optimization, models, clunky gameplay and art too similar to the assets of Arkham Asylum(both made with U3)
The soundtrack was fucking shit
The story was too SH2 but bad in a literal way, you DON'T need to many flashback to tell what the fucking guy did
Homecoming had nicer bosses, a good difficulty and it didn't looked too shitty for a 2008 game, and the plot while is shit compared to the original is still faaaaar better than downpour's
