What is Sup Forums's opinion on Life is Strange?

I picked it up on Monday for $20 after hearing a bit about it and wasn't expecting much. Finished it last night to completion. Wow, money well spent. It's slow at first but really picks up in the second episode, the hipster music which I generally cringe at fits perfectly and the twist really hit muh feels. The whole game did.

Let's discuss.

Is the an actual game or some kind of visual novel? Is it really about a lesbian?

I've played the first episode, won't be buying the rest. The writing in this game is fucking awful. The characters aren't believable, none of them are easy to identify with and the dialogue WAS legitimately written by a 40 year old man, and it shows.

I really didn't enjoy the first episode, doesn't matter how many sinister hints you drop, if the rest of your game is bullshit I assume the mystery is too.

It's a shitty teen drama that pauses every once in awhile to let you pick one of two decisions. You can reverse any fuckup completely so it's literally trial and error gameplay with no consequences

I liked it a lot. In retrospect I think Episode 5 dropped the ball a bit in writing, but it was such a wild ride I don't really care. I would say Ep4 was the best.

It played to Dontnod's strengths.

Literally Tumblr: The Game

It's not even worth the time spent to pirate it.

I love the first 4 episodes. I found the writing and other awkward things charming actually.

5th episode is Evangelion ending all over again. They clearly ran out of budget and all foreshadowing and stuff was ignored.

Its actual game. And you can play Max as lesbian if you want.

>You can reverse any fuckup completely

That's actually incorrect, which turns out to be a central theme of the story.

It's Hard Being a Spoiled Teenager - The Game.

I can tell you with confidence that I will never know. How could you stand listening to these characters interact for five episodes?

It was a pretty chill game until the whole serial killer shit started.

I didn't like characters that much either, still don't like the majority of them and I can say with confidence that if Max was a real person she and I would not get along.

But I don't know, I thought the story was interesting and I really liked the rewind mechanic. The idea of being able to see both sides of most decisions but not the long-term consequences of them was engaging to me.

And to answer your question more directly, I didn't think the character writing was actually that bad. It's rough in ep1, but it finds its footing and the game as a whole is often campy enough to sell it.

...

She knows her Bible.

Kate best girl desu

She's literally a whore.

Do you guys have suggestions for games that can compare emotionally?

Nathan take your pills.

more like during the second half of the game it doesn't really matter anymore.

I noticed that when videogame makers want to do emotionally hard story on a personal level without some sort of zombie apocalypse, they usually use female protagonists.

So try Syberia or The Longest Journey.

I thought it was cute. Too bad Chloe is a huge cunt who tried to throw you under the bus.

Finally! i go on Sup Forums once a week and everytime i do i see a tread about this game, wich happens to be my favorite. I find this ame really enjoyable, i fell in love with it the mpment max put her headphones on.

Only played the 1st episode, very nicely done, not bad at all. Worth checking out at least.

Steins;Gate
To the Moon
Top falseflag

liked it on a first plathrough but on a more sober replay it's kinda stupid. the acting, the dialog, the animation (specifically the nonexistent facial expressions) are all shit.

This and Long Dark, loving the watercolor textures, liked the 1st free episode, it's not up its own ass, even though you'd think so, bretty good famicomjohntron.

damn nigga i just like this game i finished it for the fourth time yesterday

Played it twice.
It's really worth the money. One of all time favourites.

memers can REEEE all they want ,we don't care.

good man.

no matter what choices you make, Chloe always ends up with a gun at the end of episode 4.

>this thread again
>same comments over and over

As 24yo i just feel im to old for this game

Visual novel for the teenage audience, akin to the Twilight series.

Who the fuck is "we"?

filled with dumb assholes who have never played the game and a sprinkle people with interesting opinions.

>implying the same people whi like LiS will go and watch Twillight

Off yourself please.

Fuck you. Might aswell not play games and listen to electronic music or metal and dont forget to only watch the news. No series for you mr mature guy.

Fuck off, OP. That's my fucking opinion.
Back to /vg/ you go.

I wish they had set up the ending for a sequel

The kangz of egypt

Did it hurt your feelings that mature people dont enjoy your favorite game :^)

The characters are obnoxiously stupid to the point of retardation (Let's lie on an active railroad/breakin into pool after a suicide), the dialogue is cringeworthy (hella) and it's riddled with plot holes (you keep photos through rewinds except when you're not).

If you can look past that you can enjoy it I guess.

Did any of you heathens not save Kate ?

Confess now.

>24 yo
>im le too old
Mommy' little baby is a big boy now!

Absolute shit.

>being this obvious
You didn't buy or play shit, Mr. Faggot.
Eat a dick.

!!!!!!!!

who

things max has on her person dont rewind or else her clothes would be ripped off of her everytime she rewinds

It was a fun watch.

>"Hide in my closet so my Dad doesn't know you're here."
>"WTF WHY DIDN'T YOU SPRING OUT TO MY RESCUE?"

>"Oh cool you have time powers, let's abuse them to do stupid shit in a junkyard."

>"REEEE HOW DARE YOU TALK TO OTHER PEOPLE THAN ME THAT'S HELLA UNCOOL DOG"

>"WHAT DO YOU MEAN I'M NOT ALLOWED TO STEAL MONEY FROM THE HANDICAPPED, FINE WHATEVER MOM"

>"RachelRachelRachelRachelRachel--Oh hey Max help me find Rachel."

>"Let's walk into this obvious trap so I can get my revenge on Nathan!"

Were people supposed to like her? She was not only somehow dumber than Max "I was so busy enjoying this art exhibit I forgot to warn everyone about the doom tornado I've been fearing all week" Caufield but also a completely self-centered cunt until the last minute when she realizes how awful she is.

>the long-term consequences

I don't get how grown well thinking men can play a game like this. It's literally a game about a teenage girl having problems. Oh and lesbian tumblr degeneracy.

You're going to have to do a little better, user.

I would've liked it back when I was 14 and a girl.

i liked her you just suck and chose the bad options, This game might suit you better.

>mfw barely paid much attention to the stuff in her room but did pick up the phone when she called
>being able to figure out what to say from dumb luck and a moderate idea of Kate's character
>manage to save her in the end using the power of knowing what Bible verse could coerce her to not jump
Not gonna lie, considering that's the only event in the game you don't get a rewind on I felt pretty proud of myself.

Yeah, and you can't keep photo of David harassing Kate if you rewind then choose to intervene. Good writing there.

>tfw you realize that most porn actresses are suffering mental problems due to fucked up childhoods and are drugged on set to make it look like they enjoy it

Every character is kind of a cunt really

>hur you didn't pick my phone call therefore Im gonna kill myself

>"You'd like her more if you were her lesbian footstool and enabled her to do whatever she wanted!"
Just because someone acts nicer to you when you give them everything they want doesn't make them a good person.

Is his pic a porn actress? Who?

touche, might be because it's a major plot choice, every game has plot holes so don't nitpick at something so trivial.

Yeah same here. I had watched a walkthrough of the game a couple years ago because i didnt own it then but somehow i had no memory of quite enough events.

This was one of them and considering it caught me off guard when i managed to save her immediatly paused and took a break. Shit was intense and gave you that feeling of acomplishment

pedo

just because someone isn't a "good person" doesn't mean that the character is bad, you goddamn lawful good nob.

I mean in Kate's defense she was in a pretty warped and fragile state of mind at the time. People about to commit suicide aren't terribly prone to listening to reason and usually want to justify their feelings of agony so they can force themselves to pull the trigger.

Can't ignore the cringe dialogue, the totally obvious villain and the waste of a potential good story.

HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA HELLA

other than that, 9/10

Doing drugs before a shoot (no pun intended) is highly unlikely. It's difficult to give instructions or directions to someone who is high as fuck. I imagine porn directors are highly efficient and just want to get the video done as quickly as possible.

Are porn actresses also drug addicts or casual drug users? Absolutely.

I absolutely adore the Oregon area it was taking place in. And also I adore supernatural stories inspired by Twin Peaks.

Shame that the last episode dropped the ball so bad it ruined everything. Now I only play the first 4 episodes and ignore the last one.

Bought the full season because it received such praise, the first episode was just such garbage that I can't motivate myself to see it through

When you go into Nathan's room and rummage through his shit and he has whale songs on his hi-fi, I honestly thought that meant that Nathan had some supernatural powers too and he didn't have a clue what he was doing so he was causing all the whales to swim up to the beach or something, and that would lead to every character in the game getting minor supernatural powers.

It seemed reasonable at the time

you are weak.

definitely an interesting theory not sure if i like it but it is interesting

Considering that the cut content shows that Nathan knew about the upcoming storm, its not that far-fetched.

cut content?

played it

enjoyed it

made me sad i will never be able to relive younger years at a close knit prep school with qts everywhere

I had so much trouble with the game because none of the characters are likable or well-written, and it's stuck on obvious tropes and cliches. Seriously, how did no one know that Jefferson wasn't the killer?

"Seriously though, I could frame anyone of you in a dark corner, and capture you in a moment of desperation."

Immediate red flage, especially since no one else in the entire game had any foreshadowing at all, other than Nathan, who was an obvious red herring.

The only character I liked in the entire game was Joyce. She was the only level-headed non-insane person. Everyone else was suicidal, paranoid, stupid, or overly dramatic for the sake of being overly dramatic.

All your choices meant nothing, because the same narrative happens regardless. Outing Nathan to the Principal causes him to attack you in the parking lot after school, not outing Nathan to the Principal... Causes him to attack you in the parking lot after school. It's a linear story with the illusion of choice added as flavor, and the ending just makes everything worse.

The only definitively bad character is Jefferson. Chloe just doesn't care about anyone but herself, all her pursuits are for the sake of her own self-satisfaction and she was so heavily traumatized that she held an irrational grudge over her stepfather which led to her making a long series of awful life choices out of sheer rebellion. The only time she really understands the gravity of things and all the mistakes she made is when she's face-to-face with the storm caused by Max's intervention of fate and only then does she decide to take responsibility for her mistakes by urging Max to let her die.
Say what you like but don't pretend Chloe is this innocent angel. She fucked up a lot because she wasn't able to cope with loss and in the end made it everybody else's problem until the very last second.

instaud.io/9Xh

The last episode was obviously not what they planned. Or they wouldnt spend so much time focusing on Nathan“s father who we in the end never got to see.

>Max can bend time and space
>powers never explained
>that shitted out ending
>chloe's whole character

money well spent?

thnx brah

Not gonna lie, like any good teenager I mostly tuned out of Jefferson's lecture in the beginning.

seen this exact fucking post in a previous thread! right down to the pic u be trollin hard bruh

In the end, this is another example on why you don't have to buy episodics one by one.
Getting the whole series after some sobs played and reviewed it is a better choice because the end was kind of slippery on this one.

youtube.com/watch?v=LFlMoAasW4A

same

I'm probably a retard but I was honestly surprised when he showed up as the big bad, but his SUPER EVIL BAD GUY VOICE in episode 5 was absolute shite

user your choices didn't not matter because of a railroaded story.
Your choices didn't matter because the finale left you with a binary choice in which no matter which you choose, everything you did in the game is rendered meaningless for one reason or another.

fuck dude I've gone through that faze until i did what chloe did i found something i cared about (max in chloe's case) and i improved myself which you do see her do as the story progresses.

Thematic Inconsistency and Arbitrary restriction of character powers due to rapid onset mental retardation: The VN

man, last time I raged at a LiS thread was a month ago

>which you do see her do as the story progresses.

I don't buy this for a second, but given the fact that LiS takes place over the course of like five days, that's perfectly fine.

lul about the last time i was on v

Don't you think it's far more likely that he wants to see porn of max rather than specifically trying to fish for porn of illegal minors?

Thanks fellas. I'll check them out.

why would I waste 10 hours of my life playing this, when I can just watch The Butterfly Effect do the idea better in a quarter of the time?

The main character isn't bad.
Just feels like a game for high schoolers/edgy hipsters so I couldn't really get into it.

youtube.com/watch?v=KGebmlDlB1k

i'm mostly talking about how she gives max less shit and generally acts like a better person. Also in episode 5 if you read her texts on the plane she straightens her life out, fixes things with david and starts going to school again, i call that maturing

Ending was shit. Kinda weird how out of nowhere Jeffershit turned out to be the bad guy
Nathan was a real human bean.
