Well, back in the threads from when it hadn't become gigantic (it was just really big, but not actually gigantic), there already were people making stupid story-related questions because they didn't play the game themselves and as such didn't pay attention to the dialogue. So I guess that, in a way, it is a bad thing.

There never really was any. But, some of the more interesting things about the game shine through near the ending as well as through subsequent playthroughs.
Neutral run is pretty fun since you haven't seen any of the funny little experiences, then you do a Pacifist run which has the coolest area in the game as well as a pretty satisfying ending. Genocide is last which is pretty controversial but it's kinda needed to be played to understand it.

Like said, people overrated the FUCK out of it. It's nothing absolutely game-changing. The bosses are fun as fuck though.
However, all the interesting story elements have yet to come into play, most of it comes near the ending and in different playthroughs depending on how you're playing the game. If you killed no one then you can start your file back up from the final save and go finish up some final things in order to get the "True ending."

Heads up: you can't technically get the True Pacifist ending on your first playthrough, but playing pacifist until the final boss allows you to restart your save at the final boss after the neutral ending and immediately have access to the extra True Pacifist content. It's basically the game's way to make sure you're familiar with the events and consequences of a neutral end before you get the pacifist end, for story reasons.
