Ryu and his relationship with the satsui no hado is one of the central plot points of the series... if you care about plot in fighting games.

The best Ryu focused story to this day remains the original Street Fighter 2 animated movie and there was no Satsui no Hadou faggotry. M.Bison, Charlie, Guile, and Chun-Li tend to be more relevant to the actual central conflict in the Street Fighter series.

While I like that Akuma is a Zodd / Hanma Yuujirou reference "mechanically better Shoto with less health" and "push Ryu to the edge" has always been pretty lame. Glad that Capcom had the guts to not have him in the initial roster, although they are likely going to inevitably reintroduce him for some hype.
