Whats wrong with stylized artstyles?

They shouldn't

who are you quoting?

They really shouldn't. Realistic looking games from last gen already look like shit.

Both are fine, problems only arise when you half-ass it.

NMS looks like shit for the most part
there are MUCH. MUCH better examples of stylized games

>Nu male sky's aesthetic
>Timeless

hiding thread

I'd say Uncharted looks fairly stylised but leans more towards realism. Something about how colourful the environments are.
Still haven;t played them.
It would look good if it had focus and wasn't procedurally generated.

I really hate the new cartoony meme artstyles

You image looks like shit

>It would look good if it had focus and wasn't procedurally generated.
probably
it looked good in the original trailers but those were fake and the end product is rarely as impressive

Depends on the game

I dont want my Arma/Squad/Insurgency to look like Doom, or my Doom to look like Arma.

that's not the last gen any more mate.

>it looked good in the original trailers but those were fake and the end product is rarely as impressive
I wouldn't know. I never followed the game aside from hearing it would have a lot of planets.

Both are completely acceptable styles.

...

Realism can look good if you make it look distinct.

Realism doesn't age well when graphical leaps between gens are so huge. Look at sport sim games on the PS3, they look like absolute shit.

...

The photorealistic ones will look aged as fuck in five years.

It's kinda cool how you can actually tell every Nintendo game apart by their unique art-style. You can't say the same about any other company's output, or even series.

I would be embarrassed to be a video game designer in the modern age for anyone else. To think that the people of the year 2116 are going to look back at my work and see a brown or gray sludge.

It's enough to send anyone into manic depression.

Final fantasy XV, persona 5 and especially the last guardian all look incredible. Dont get what youre saying

Crysis 3 and Unity are probably gonna last longer.

as opposed to the """styled""" ones that look aged as fuck right now.

>It would look good if it had focus and wasn't procedurally generated.
The textures are shit but you are right, it would probably look way better.

Artstyle an Aesthetics>Photorealism.

Right: Fantasy worlds, gameplay, interesting creatures and characters, fun.

Left: Face simulator 2016

stylization > realism ALWAYS
this is objective
no argument

>its a art style to look like shit

Ok

Left: Cutscene [with a few exceptions]
Right: Gameplay [with a few exceptions]

0/10

stop fucking shilling, shill is what I would say if I didn't completely agree with you.

The graphics don't look bad at all, but anime faces in a detailed setting looks stupid as fuck

...

>console games shouldn't try to be photorealistic
Ftfy

Photorealistic is alright. Nowhere near as good as stylistic, though.

The problem with "photo-realism" is that it isn't possible on modern hardware, even today. Look back to the gamecube and compare Windwaker to Twilight Princess. Both were stylized to be sure, but Windwaker was HEAVILY stylized. Today WW still looks great, and TP looks considerably worse.

>looks amazing
>runs like silk
>few games now can do the same
It hurts, bros.

You picture is kinda shit, but I have the same attitude.

Final Fantasy XV looks like shit. The real game looks worse than Xenoblade Chronicles X, even, and that game's a year old.

It's the only one I could find of that particular stage.

Sadly, very few people actually cared about Woolly World. It was one of the best games last year.

>looks worse than Xenoblade Chronicles X

I really liked it as well. I went into it thinking it was gonna be like that one kirby game, but it was a surprisingly good yoshi game.

Test

>saturated image

Turn up your color contrast dumb shit. It makes the game look exactly like it does in the promos.

What's the top middle game?

Talos Principle.

It's the only one I'd consider better than the original, which is sad considering the original is closing in on a quarter century old.

Looked good, had amazing music, tons of cool levels, especially in world 3, and more difficult than Tropical Freeze to 100%. I seriously spent more time on Woolet Bill's Last Ride than I did in Bopopolis

youtube.com/watch?v=2Jk6bzXPVhQ

you're right that vagrant story has aged, but it's aesthetics are still appealing. it has a strong art style but was extremely limited by technology. They did their best with what they had.

video games that have anything to do with realism and/or immersion are fucking horrible and are memes.

>XV
>incredible

sure user, sure

Would you recommend those new Donkey Kong Country games (wii and wii u)? Kinda short on money.

>persona 5 looks incredible
it looks like a ps3 game

that's because it is?

Still waaaaay better than ff15 though

That's because it is.

talos principle, my son.

The original only if on sale. Tropical Freeze? One of the best games of this generation - if you like platformers.

It's easy enough to breeze through the levels, but actually going out of your way to unlock all the secret routes, getting the collectibles, and finding secret passage ways is genuinely challenging.

Plus it's got good variety in levels, the gameplay is finetuned to a point of perfection, and the music is Godlike.

>Games shouldn't try to be photorealistic

Literally only autistic manchildren think this, and their opinion is widely disregarded by people that actually matter.

The more realistic devs try to make it look, the more I notice that it's not real.

>Play through Xenoblade
>haha silly anime potato faces
>Play through Uncharted
>Uncomfortable uncanny valley feeling the whole way through

t. plebeian who only plays AAA garbage

Games don't age that poor nowdays

Xenoblade isn't that bad. It's pretty much just Lin that is in the potato-olympics. To be fair, it's the fault of whoever let a 13 year old decide what her robot body would look like. She even gave herself sizable tits.

and games does a patrician like yourself play?

Crysis from 2007 is still one of the best looking games ever, meanwhile only autists think nintendo cartoony-shit looks good.

I've recently been buying platformers for the snes to get into the genre. Thanks man I'll keep it in mind.

Obscure masterpieces made for intellectuals like Undertale, NMS and Splatoon.

But the only bad game out of those is No Man's Sky.

...

Anything made before 2007.

What benefits does photorealism have?
>usually harder to make run well
>expensive assets that take more dev time to make
>age like dick
Maybe they can assist bringing you into their world but a story, characters, environments can do that too.

That's because you're an autist with retarded opinions.

She didn't mistook anyhing, that is clearly trash.

No, you just have shit taste.

Splatoon was better than Blood Borne, and I played both at launch

Realism don't hold up with time. See all that games with "realistic" graphics at time. All of them look dated now.

A good artstyle can do wonders to any game, people still like older games because artstyle and gameplay.

Hell some games still hold up for today standard because art direction. If anything realism makes everything looks bland and dull.

Also I play fucking video games to escape reality.

FF15 looks like a ps3 game too. The fact that it started dev 10 years ago on ps3 is really starting to show itself.

the natural world is a beautiful wonder, good art has always tried to replicate it

The problem is that devs tries to focus on human part of that. Cities, man made stuff etc.

Never the damn natural world.

>Splatoon
>Obscure

The 2 best looking games in history are The Witness by Jonathon Blow and Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

>can't see shit from under all that post-processing
>'aesthetically pleasing'

left:shit so generic that looks like they are all from the same game
rght:different and creative looking games

>literally no loading screens

How did they do it?

how about good gameplay first, then you can bitch about the other stuff

you managed to trigger every weaboo shitter on Sup Forums with just one image, well done op

Doors are the loading screen.

Elevators too. The game just load rooms and unload when you move to the next one.
Same stuff since the NES, even Other M use the same stuff.

Easier going up then down it would make sense if you think on it.

I actually really don't like how the witness looks. The way they modeled everything looks like they were trying to go for low poly but it's really inconsistent and I hate how it looks. The color choice also gets a little garish in a lot of different places.

it works same way in GTA IV / V.
Only fully 3D game with no loading screens at all I can think of is Gothic 3, where every cave and room was part of gameworld space, which sometimes produced uniqe issues, like guards in Farring somehow 'spotting' you killing orcs in Great Furnace, because cave network would spread all way under the city

Yes but there are still no loading screens, as in screens where nothing is happening that specifically tell you the game is loading.

Left:KINO
Right:weeb shit

Literally watch any GDQ and they'll explain that to you.

Here's a game to appeal to you guys.

When you shoot in a new door. the room that is behind of your room gets unloaded and the next room loads. That's why there is some delay for the door opening.

Elevators are just a bland loading screen.

Open world games load the map in chunks, when you get at some point the game load another chunk of the map and unload the chunks that the player can't see or is too far away.

Stuff isn't rocket science but I'm pretty sure that someone have some articles about it.

>devs market and sell a realistic military simulator
>weeb complains when it tries it's best to look photo-realistic instead of one of my japanese animes

But where in Metroid Prime is there a still screen that says LOADING (or not. it just has to be a dedicated screen to loading) until you go to the next part of the world? There's always something happening. During the elevator cutscenes there's half second where the screen goes black and fades back in. That's as close as it gets, but even during those you're watching her travel via the elevator so you're not thinking about the fact that the game is loading.

>you're watching her travel via the elevator so you're not thinking about the fact that the game is loading.
is this what it's like to be 80 iq

Is there any reason photorealism is praised while model animation is allowed to look like shit? Stillframes like pic related look nice enough, but the way characters move is about on par with Sims 3.

Oh, sorry. I didn't realize I was trying to argue with bait.

>post shows new ip
>thinks it's the same person
so you are 80 iq, thanks for confirming
