I backed the game with a $100 ship but felt a bit disconnected after they kept adding top tier alien ships with ridiculous prices over and over again. I feel there should always be something you should work for, 'not having the time so I'll spend money instead' is not an excuse and not something you should build your game around.
I bumped into the livestream and I do have to say it looked phenomenal. If they truly can make this massively multiplayer with seamless zoning then it will be something special.

Like all space games it's a grind for bigger better ships. Start out in a tiny shit ship (unless you donated a million dollars) then do shitty trade/combat missions to get a less shitty ship or interact in some way with players (trade/combat), rinse and repeat 1000x times till you get sick of the game.

Pretty much, right now you can buy ships for real dollarydoos, when games released you can only buy with ingame buckaroos.

Nothing I think. It just seems like theres a bit more to do, such as walking around space stations with your bros and boarding ships and stuff.

I have no doubt in my mind most people will get bored of it in the 1st few weeks.

There's 2 sides to the game: Squadron 42 and Star Citizen

Squadron 42 is a single player game with focus on adventure, feeling like a hero and storytelling. Star Citizen is the online sandbox where people can fuck around and do whatever they want.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a white muslim woman.

I will admit the demo looked very impressive and didn't seem scripted for the most part.

I still have doubts they can stabilize the crashes and implement a proper economy and NPC police system in their multiplayer sandbox though.

It's a sandbox, there's no "final goal" to work towards so you have to set your own goal.

There's the standard progression though, get better guns and ships. Other people might want to amass enough wealth to buy a space station. Others might want to start up a factory empire. Guilds might want to get and hold the biggest ships possible (large capital ships persist in the universe, regardless of whether its owners and crew are online which mean they need defence 24/7)

Well E:D actually got some new things last update. Pretty sure you can land on planets and exit your ship. And multi-crew is supposedly upcoming on Horizons as well.
And yet all those new features can't save a game from being completely lifeless and boring.

From the first 5 minutes of the video I see a game that looks like it's from 2012, pretty low res textures, very low fps even on the very cherry picked part of the game they decided to show, the actual space looks way worse than E:D, textures pop in all over the place.

Originally the game was going to be made up of a bunch of modules for the different aspects of the game

>Star Marine - FPS combat
>Alphaverse - Bringing all these elements together
They contracted Ilfonic to work on the FPS and Star Marine parts, but they fucked up so CIG skipped Star Marine and went straight into the Alphaverse. Now they're actually going to release Star Marine.

To actually answer your question, it's part of the alpha and doesn't require you to buy more things. It's supposed to be a gamemode where you can fight against other players and basically try out the FPS game mechanics.

Not him, but transitioning through multiple stations, ships, a solar system, and planet surface, all fully rendered and functional with zero loading, in a massively multiplayer setting, is pretty damn impressive.
