Does every game really need a PC release?
Does every game really need a PC release?
good games need a pc release
Yes, unless they're better on a handheld,
Yes, what a dumb question. Why does it bother you that more people can play a game?
I wouldn't mind it.
OP has a ps4
Why wouldn't you want to play every game on the superior platform? Are you serious?
why not
Yes. A game is automatically bad if it's not on PC.
1. The game gets archived forever
2. The game gets better performance
3. More people get to play game
So yes.
perhaps need is the wrong term
in almost all cases, "greatly benefit from" is a better term
Besides hardware/software, 'superior' is subjective.
And before you go full autist, yes, for some people there are other things to consider about your gaming experience besides hardware/software.
Not in every instance. For example any game solely designed for the 3DS would just be awkward to play on PC.
However the vast majority of console exclusives would obviously be better if they could be experienced on PC.
The more platforms a game is released on, the better. Everyone should get to enjoy good games!
all video games are made with computers so yes
Define "need".
In my opinion, you can't possibly argue that every game "needs" a PC release when there are developers who achieved success without releasing their games on PC. I'm not sure what other measure of "need" we're supposed to use.
However, platform exclusivity is bad for the consumer.
Yes. If a game is not released on PC then said game is not worth playing.
Would be nice. Honestly I really want to see the RTS genre come back to life. Those were the only games that I played on PC back in early 2000's
Is it though? If nintendo released their games on other platforms, then there'd be absolutely zero reason to buy a nintendo console, then there's no more nintendo on the hardware market, then there's less competition and consumer choice.
Probably yes. Without a console maker paying for exclusivity, publishers need to put the game on as much platforms as possible to reduce financial risk.
PC gaming would not have survived the 00s without RTS games desu senpai
Every console needs a PC emulator
>then there's less competition and consumer choice.
I mean competition wise, Wii U was objectively inferior in it's hardware and design from everyone else.
All it did was hold certain games hostage so you HAD to buy the Wii U if you wanted to experience the game whether or not the product itself was particularly good.
Superior hardware and software is a huge deal.
And the only thing a PC can't do in terms of experience and lounging around is a handheld game. You can play PC games the same way as you can play console games. You can hook it up to your TV and play on your couch since that seems to be what people always resort to.
If games didn't get a PC release alongside their real release, PC would have literally nothing but some indie trash and Solitaire.
>Wii U was objectively inferior in it's hardware and design from everyone else.
The good games it did get disagree. I still don't see a game as good looking as Sm4sh.
>superior
>subjective
Apart for the "couch coo-op" there really isn't much else consoles have an advantage over and you can easily plus that shit in your TV.
Just cause you find the cartoony graphics of a first party game doesn't change the fact the hardware itself is FAR behind to everyone else to a point that most developers don't even bother making it.
Yes they're some games that look pretty in the Wii U, but that doesn't change the fact that the tech is still far weaker. That's not opinion, that's just a plain fact about the console. I think Shadows of the Colossus still looks good but that don't mean a PS2 is as strong as a PS4 hardware wise.
No, but every console manufacturer needs to sell PCI-E or M.2 console cards that let a PC run any and every game from that console with unlocked settings and no restrictions for a fair price of $100 to $200 and as low as $75 on sale after a few years.
There is no reason why a game developed on a PC for the x86 architecture should release for a single mainstream system only. Exclusivity only makes any sense on the PC, because the consoles may not actually be able to run a PC exclusive game.
I don't want to buy a disgusting brick called an xbone to be able to play 2 or 3 video games when I already have a machine using the same architecture but 4 times as powerful. I'd rather just buy an expansion card.
Although i own a PS4
I'd rather play every game that comes on on PC unless its an exclusive that has no chance of hitting PC.
You can reverse that as well. There are just as many developers that acheived success by releasing on PC and not on consoles.
I actually bought my friend's mITX build as a favour because he needed to liquidize a lot of shit for emergency cash. Decided to use it as a living room PC and I have to say it has it's drawbacks. Lots of games don't have a UI that's meant to be viewed from a distance and lack of controller support make a lot of games unplayable (although I haven't tried a corsair Lapdog or anything like that). Start up/anything not actually in-game is obviously pretty awkward too because you have to set up a KB/M on the floor or on your coffee table if it's close enough.
That said, when it works, it's great. Laying back on a couch playing games at settings/frame rates leagues ahead of console on a big ass TV is great. Desktop will probably always be my main method of playing games but I can see myself doing my own 4K Living room build in a few years.
And you can say the exact same thing for consoles. Espcially last gen where ps3 was all abuot exclusives.
Don't be an idiot and point at just one platform when all are guilty of it.
This
Only if it wants to reach its full potential
>better graphics
>better hardware
>more options/mods
>better controls + more options
>subjective
Way to generalize, you autist. How is opinion not subjective? Say Android vs Iphone, you can say that hardware on one phone is better and say it is 'superior' because of that, but there are other things to consider for other people.
I like Android because it is more customizable, but I know many people who like iPhones because their operating system is more basic and easier to use for them.
The difference here is I don't start petty flame wars over opinion like you.
Nah.
Honestly the one thing consoles had a great advantage over PC was it's "insert game and play" mechanic and exclusives. Back then when there was more competition and consoles weren't quite in every single modern home of America they had to put in more effort in their games. The exclusives that were being made for it's respective console had to compete with other exclusives as well as convince people that what they were selling was truly worth it so there was more room for creativity and experimentation.
In a weird way, exclusives once upon a time reinforced devs to make better and more interesting games and IP. But as the years gone by consoles have become a very basic piece of entertainment technology practically owned by everyone like a tv or computer but the average consumer doesn't really know any better. So the motivation to make new IP's and to put effort in said exclusives has lost. Even the "insert game and play" which was once a huge staple to what made a console is now gone because consoles try to go far and beyond what they can normally do to outperform PC, basically making them just that: A prebuilt PC.
So honestly, if the biggest reason as to how exclusives positively effect consumers and the gaming medium is now gone then what's the point defending it as a consumer?
The only time that not making a game work on every platform, hence increasing your market of customers is if the game is a first party creation were you do not want to empower your rivals (eg. Mario, Halo, God of War) or if you are commissioned to only create that work for a single platform (eg. Bloodborne, Mario and Sonic at the Olympics)
If you offer a platform and a developer backstabs you, you should reallocate resources to obtain games from other developers instead, and let them live off their new audience because they're more important apparently.
You can't sell a platform that has no reason to be purchased, and all the for-PC kids only want to remove that incentive so that your platform fails. How dense can you be.
Exclusivity was a mistake.
Do movie theaters have exclusive movies?
And no i'm not a PCuck
>Do movie theaters have exclusive movies?
They do.
>implying consoles are not functions-locked PCs
Whys are console wars a thing? is wanting more people to play a game a bad thing?
>Do movie theaters have exclusive movies?
Sometimes actually yeah.
"Only in select theaters"
PC has every option that a console has, plus many more options and better hardware. You want easy, open up the Big Picture on steam. Works just as easily as a PS4's navigation. You want just about anything, you got it on PC. Regardless of what people consider for gaming, PC is better, objectively, because it has the option to do it all.
