It's not quite as open. The world is pretty much finite. But it's much better as a game.
Underrated as fuck even if it's early access.
Have a bump.
I'm still waiting on the fucking update.
NEXT UPDATE NEVER EVER
CAN I PLAY THIS ON A TOASTER, I HAVE FIRST GEN INTEL GRAPHICS
>yfw first seeing a reaper
Next update on August 22nd
NEVER EVER EVER
>mfw I accidentally caused the one behind the Aurora to permanently relocate to the starting a Safe Shallows
I still want a spear to ogga bogga the shit out of fish.
Okay anons, I fucking love subnautica and I've been combing the web for tips. Just finished my first sea moth with moonpool at my first base. What should I do next? Where should I try to go/explore first?
Is there any place I should stay away from?
not even the same game, subnautica is way better
why is this game just picking up notice now though? it's been in development forever
How the fuck did you manage that?
avoid the mountains without the cyclops
The hype around a failed survival game has some people looking for alternatives.
Don't go too far in any direction until you get the electric field generator. Once you've got that and at least the first level of pressure compensator, you're alright.
People wanted an exploration game, NMS failed, this already had a few fans on Sup Forums that would crop up occasionally, it just happened naturally.
>aggro it at the edge of the ring
>it latches on
>zap it
>instead of swimming back it turns and goes through the kelp forest
>now loops near the lifepod
It gets stuck on geometry a lot, and can't hurt the Seamoth while it's in the Moon Pool. On the bright side, I managed to get a scan and get over my fear of them mostly.
jesus christ how horrifying
Searching for wrecks gets old. Found tons of them and still no modification station.
Subanutica is better than Minecraft, but it still feels pointless as fuck. You never really build youre shit up for anything other than exploring. No killing big shit, just exploring doesn't really cut it for now.
I have one
That's the idea. It's just for exploration.
But that isn't enough to drive the game forward so far, I don't see enough content to explore past a certain distance, so what is the point of making you swim faster, getting better oxygen tanks and so on? They might add more stuff, but if they plan on exploration carrying the entire game, they need to make it absolutely amazing.
Not a fan of the whole anti-gun attitude of one of its developers, I mean it's a fucking survival game, you know what people trying to survive do? Carry knives or guns, if they don't have they'll try to make some makeshift weapons.
Pacifism is pretty much the opposite of survival. I don't want a nuclear drone that you can craft that kills everything in an area of 5 square miles, but it's stupid to be able to craft a huge submarine and the player can't even create a shitty harpoon gun, makes no sense at all.
i hope a map expansion happens at some point, i'm out of shit to look at
I guess that's the idea. It's kind of meant to fill that little niche though. I know the dev's a faggot, but it's understandable to maintain the atmosphere that comes with being bottom of the food chain. Reapers lose a lot of impact when you can just zap them.
Unknown Worlds are amazing devs
NS2 was amazing and so is sub nautica
Is there any way to recharge my shit? Or do I have to build a new scanner when it runs out of juice?
you can craft a battery recharger, yes
I made it here. Pretty much the last thing I did in my most recent session. I'm just waiting on a big update now, because I've exhausted all I can do.
Battery Recharger. Until then, you have to make more batteries, but they're fairly cheap.
You don't have to make a new scanner. The only tool that needs reliable replacing is the knife.
So you can click a battery or something and use it on the item with lost charge?
With E or Q I think.
I shouldn't be that hard to find out.
Select item, press R, choose replacement battery, press enter.
Press R and you can switch batteries anytime you want, or unload the battery
Once your item dies, you press R and it lets you swap out the batteries.
Don't overuse the Seaglide, even if it is super convenient, because it burns through batteries fast.
donwloaded it immediately after realizing how shit NMS was. so yeah
why is performance so shit? even if i get high fps it keeps stuttering
this is the only game that makes me feel nms underdelivered in general. i didn't pay attention to the hype or anything, but subnautica is cheaper, more 'indie', and it does a lot more than nms in terms of crafting, exploration, creepiness and variation of lifeforms. shame
No. The game is much better because it isn't procedurally generated shit like most modern PC games. The map and item placement was done "by hand".
same, I get 17~FPS on a Phenom 960T and GTX 970
I reccomend Empyrion for NSM replacement.
Has multiplayer and building, also you can pretty much create your ship as you see fit for your needs.
It's early access. The stuttering is it loading in new areas. Happens a lot more in a Seamoth because you're fast.
How's the planet variety? How much content?
Always preferred The Forest for survival/grinding autism shenanigans, probably just the whole idea of going native on a cannibal island and being better than the natives
>tfw building massive fortifications in the mountains and raining down molotovs on scouting parties that poke their nose in
>tfw luring in hordes by building a bonfire in an open field, then hunting them all down with just a spear
>tfw collecting and piling bodies for ritualistic sacrifice every ten days
>tfw wearing the bones as armour
I'll cry when they implement a use for the sanity stat, mine drops fast and rarely rises past 0%
Horribly optimized and runs like hot ass
t. poorfag
runs fine for me, stop using your cobbled up junk
Ah the predictable meme responses. Every time.
If they're so predictable then maybe you should refrain from posting your boo hoo comment in the first place
>please stop posting things about this game that I don't like
You tried reddit yet, friend?
>yfw killing your first reaper
I have become the leviathan.
I'm not the one that has a problem with 'optimization'. You're just whining to yourself
I agree, the weak should fear the strong :^)
I actually swam normally to the spaceship my first time
Yeeaah, safe to say I shit my pants
>you decide to turn around after seeing it
>another one spawns RIGHT THE FUCK IN FRONT OF YOU and grabs your seamoth
Holy shit my heart
Bullshit.
>actually arguing an early access game that is removing an entire feature due to performance issues and has an entire section on the forums about poor performance is perfectely optimized
I didn't used to believe in shills.
trello.com
At least that is what is claimed by the development tracker.
>being so paranoid about your country's inferiority that you interpret everything as American propaganda
A fucking leaf.
You're not supposed to go Doom on everything, it's an exploration, building, and trying to escape the planet game. When they get the res tof the story in it'll be a lot better, especially since you need to use the PRAWN suit to fight Sea Dragons and the Precursors while also freeing the Sea Emperor from her prison.
And the devs are going to be working on it after launch, they have a lot of biomes and beasts and tech they want to add.
Nope. I'm stronger than an eagle when armed with a gun. If it attacks my pets, it's getting a bullet.
>Emperor
>her
Fucking SJWs leave my hobby
>make new engine for NS2
>hype it to hell and back
>it turns out to be a good engine
>make Subnautica on Unity Engine
>it runs like shit
Why?
>firearms determine physical strength
Canadian education at work.
triggered much?
It is female. The Precursors catured her and are forcing her to breed, likely to create an army of Dragons and Emperors. Some of the things they're working on implementing are the eggs and juveniles of both creatures that you'll find around in the biomes.
>game has different performance based on age of save file
Sure sounds hardware related to me!
Strong =! Physicality in that sentence. It never says physical strength.
Keep trying, bitch niqqa.
They're optimizing it before launch, but yeah the terraforming is behind a lot of the performance issues, because of how the terrain had to be in a billion million separate little bits which eats up a ton of memory and processing. Personally I'm glad to see it gone.
Nope. Toaster fag here and it's pretty much unplayable even on minimum settings.
I just wanna explore the alien ocean ;_;
Sup
Terraforming makes things check for terrain changes constantly (accidentally dig up sand? you just terraformed), and it's early access so I imagine they're still ironing out things and optimizing.
If they manage to remove terraforming this month I'd be ecstatic.
Okay guys imma ramble a bit, i tried the demo but when i noticed the schematics/recepies for items/parts it immediately turned me off. I loathed having to play another inventory simulator ala fallout or skyrim, question; how much of the game is finding/fetching parts and stocking inventory? Is there a level at which u stop searching for parts and just simply explore? Because thats the experince i enjoy, the exploration and sight seeing. Im currently playing SOLUS PROJECT and its a blast running around the big islands and sperlunking! Should i give Subnautica another shot?
(Yeah i also stopped playing cause its 2 spooky 4 me!)
The new shit in the update is rad as hell
>Updated Aurora
>Much more story
>Lost river
>Inactive Lava Zone
>Lava Castle
>ACTIVE LAVA ZONE
>(DRAGON LEVIATHAN ROAR)
>Precursor bases everywhere
>Removal of terraforming finally
>4 new biomes
>6 new enemies
>Several new non-hostile creatures
>4 new collectible plants
>Exosuit
That's not even the half of it.
The are in the process of removing editable/changeable terrain
They have said this has been the source of performance problems for a while, and have decided that cutting it altogether is a better idea than optimizing it as much as they can which would stll be buggy and glitchy.
Having a static terrain will also help with pop in, geometry problems, and rendering disstances
Finding shit is a nice incentive to go to new areas, and having new shit incentivizes you to go where you previously did not.
Once you got food and water down to a easily renewable source, you're pretty much set to do whatever the heck you want.
never EVER
>terraforming confirmed removed
bullshit you're just looking at future trello plans surely
Game also crashes non-stop on my machine, always due to DX11
See this
They already patched it out of the experimental version. It's coming with the next big update.
it's been confirmed to be getting removed for a while.
My only issue with removing terraforming was that this guy got stuck on the back burner because he was going to work with it. At least they're just going to alter him instead of remove him entirely.
>walks around and punches anything that gets too close, including the Seamoth and PRAWN suit for hefty damage
>could be one of the beasts that attacks your base in the Creatures Attack! Update
...
I've been wanting the exosuit for fucking ever.
Because Subnautica didn't get Sony's help to market their game.
I have a 380x 4gb and the thing runs at like 15 fps
AAAAWWWW, YOU BROUGHT ME A NEW PLAYTHING!
I don't find Reapers scary
Now those fucking spider octopus things
Those are fucking scary
...
yea the reapers and dragons look too much like fantasy creatures, i cant take them seriously
>6 new enemies
>4 new biomes
Confirmed? Do we know specifically which new creatures are being put in?
Tentacles
>falling for the Early Access scam
>supporting a dev who hates guns
This game is worse than NMS on principle.
>>supporting a dev who hates guns
for the last fucking time it's one low ranking dev and everyone else said he was being a dumbass
>Game has submarines with torpedoes
>Gas torpedoes
>Guns that stop time in a bubble
>Guns that let you pick up and launch things at high velocity a-la gravity gun
>A KNIFE TO STAB YOUR ENEMIES
>A MECH TO PUNCH YOUR BIGGER ENEMIES
GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE WITH THIS PANSIE CRAP
Forget it, trolls always use lies and misinterpretations even after they've been blown to shit because they'll always hook someone with it. Just ignore them.
>firearms determine physical strength
its funny because that sounds like something an american would say.
>he doesn't prefer stopping time and knifing shit to death
>waaaah muh guns
I don't like guns
