I'm playing Razor's Edge right now right after playing 1 and 2, and on it's own merits it's absolutely a solid action game.

It's still a HUGE disappointment after the near perfection of the previous two games, even after all the fixes that went into RE. There's still lots of QTEs, lots of cinematic walk sections, overly strong narrative focus, enemies are disproportionately human, settings are considerably less outlandish, music is a massive step down.

Still having fun tho

No it's not. It's got terrible input lag (or animation lag or overly long recovery times or whatever they did to fuck it up) and the bosses are total shit. Especially the boss that you have to fight 3 times without any changes at all. Even the standard enemies aren't fun to fight at all because they're too resistant to hitstun and you end up having to just peck away at them 2 hits at a time.

Obviously you're the one butthurt defending a game from any little criticism. I've seen the same footage and it looks mediocre. Its not like I'm bashing it completely you sonypony, just don't see it as anything to hype up.

I want to believe Nioh will be a return to how great NGB/2 were but I'm reserving hype after NG3, RE, and especially Yaiba. and yeah I played the alpha and got the mark of conqueror or whatever. the fucking alpha was miles better than most games I've played in the last few years but still containing hype. in my experience too much

To be fair, the campaign has shitty levels which have nothing to do with the core combat experience. The final boss is retarded regardless of which version you're playing.

Funny, considering how the good parts of the game are almost copy pasted from the previous entries because the original idea of NG3 is steaming pile of shit, with the director going out of his way to make sure to strip any of the good parts of the games in NG3 while adding GoW tier crap. RE was basically that fag eating his words.

I liked the demo, but it wasn't great. Definitely good but not in the way it's been hyped here.

the other games get much harder than RE though. but seriously have you played the earlier games? honestly never seen anyone prefer RE over black/2 including people that have all the achievements in all of them.

and yes 1 and 2 are even harder on master ninja then RE is on ultimate. RE has the most iframe abuse by far and easiest to pull off.

Fantastic is a bit much but overall it's certainly a good game. Not as good as the previous two or even their Sigma iterations but it's still a damn fine stylish action game that I'll recommend to fans of the genre.

Masketta Man was the only good boss in NG3 and you had to fight him like 3 times. Not interested in buying RE after this game.

That said it's not entirely the same for DmC:DE since it was handled by Itsuno's team. Sure with DE it became playable when it comes to pure mechanics but because everything else is so fucking insulting the entire package feels polluted.

I find that all of the games have something positive about them compared to others but yes, Black>2>3RE.

Basically Black does everything right polishing the original NG1. It is good in every aspect.

2 is a step down in terms of exploration and level design as it's a completely linear hack and slash but it has many weapons and you can pull off way more shit with them than in Black making the combat more fun and diverse. As such if I simply want to "play some Ninja Gaiden" I am more likely to pull out NG2 and play some missions or whatever. I mainly pull out Black for the whole experience; playing from start to finish.

NG3:RE feels very different, it's still linear like 2 but the combat has been remade from the ground up. Initially I hated it but then I learned it and I like it quite well, it has a certain flow to it not in the first two games and the girls are a blast to play unlike Sigma 2 where they were pretty dull imo. Unfortunately while it's fun and a big step up from most action games you can play it's the most simplistic combat style in the series that favors being aggressive and repeating the same patterns instead of being defensive and observing the enemy. Also they tried way too hard to make an emotional story which just seems super ridiculous. The story was always kinda ridiculous in NG but at least it had a good flow.

I distinctly remember that they said BEFORE the game even released that future games would not come to PC if modders went crazy with nude mods and stuff. Everyone was like what the shit but then when they saw the DLC is like hundreds of dollars it all made sense. They were afraid they couldn't jew people out.

The lack of a decent healing method still triggers me.

That shit worked with NG3 because the game was easy as fuck, but RE is a lot harder and part of the difficulty is fucking artificial because of this decision of keeping NG3's healing system.

In his interview he just said that he expects people to be "ethical" when it comes to transactions. Never did he actually threaten the players about upcoming games because of mods, god no. He never actually mentioned mods at all, let alone nude mods. Again, because consoles had DOA mods for a very long time.

That's the least of its problems but since you haven't played in 8 years you probably won't remember the original well enough to suffer from bad enemy placement completely ruining one of the best chapters in the original among other things, omitted segments, poorly designed new bosses, having less enemies all around and making them meat shields instead etc.

I think they are saying that it's some sort of an image thing here like they don't want to be known as "those guys who put out that that naked fighting game on PC!". Image is important especially for big companies breaking new ground.

But one would have to be extremely naive to think their hundreds upon hundreds of dollars of DLC don't have anything to do with taking this stance on modding.

I'm leaning more towards the rating fear because it still costs them almost nothing to just port and sell the game digitally and Nioh probably won't have a lot of cosmetic DLCs. See how Capcom spazed out about the camera angles because the rating.

If they change the ratings after the game has been released the company needs to pay a fuckton of cash as penalty. Like Bethesda when they changed Oblivion's rating from teen 13 to mature audiences +18 because they failed to properly showcase the Dark Brotherhoods' questline where one of the characters got his dick and balls mutilated and eaten. Apparently genital mutilation is explicit enough for an adult rating.

If that were truly the case they would've dropped support of the game like Netherrealm did for MKX. Yet they still pushed out Naotora Li DLC for Steam long after.

I will never really understand the appeal of "Souls like". All of those games are horribly slow and clunky compared to the Ninja Gaiden series for example but NG and games like it sort of went out of style.

Did you guys know the company that made Salt and Sanctuary actually made two fast paced hack and slash games with similar graphical style before it? The second one especially is great.

They are very different games. I play NG to fuck shit up and have some of the best combat ever.

I play soulsborne because of atmosphere, RPG elements, and lore. The combat is fun, but the games would be shit if that's all they had.

they're slow but not clunky. this is honestly what people believe who suck at souls games. infact they are very precise and more about exact inputs. not saying NG isn't because it definitely is also while being much faster. I prefer Ninja Gaiden anyday but the souls games aren't clunky aside from Demon's.

also Nioh doesn't really play like the souls game. the alpha itself was much more challenging than anything in those games.

Well when I say clunky I mean that much of the challenge comes from the sluggishness of the character. In other words the player gets hit because of "my character wasn't ready yet because I had made a poor choice earlier." instead of "I wasn't ready yet."

I realize some people might find learning to play effectively while taking the limitations of your character (based at least to some degree on realism) into account enticing but I simply can't.

I'd always rather play the game where the character is superhuman but so is the enemy meaning the challenge comes from having to be fast, precise and observant instead of having to plan ahead constantly because you don't want to be caught with your pants down.
