I'm sceptical about the procedural generation of maps.

The game will still have a single player campaign though, just that every level will be mixed up.

>the procedural generation of maps

Shit, I didn't know that. It will be NMS all over again.

Also I really don't like the design of the handgun. In the first game, it looked like a mix between a katana and a revolver and looked cool.

It's only semi-procedurally generated and even then, apparently only the side areas will be, not the main levels.

My least favorite thing about Shadow Warrior 1 was the maps were really boring. Procedural Maps just kill it for me.

Hopefully the combat is so good it doesn't matter. It is just fun slicing shit with the sword.

Well to my understanding its more like entire chunks being swapped around, not ever square inch being generated. Every playthrough will just be switched around each time.

is that console gameplay or pc

So it's kinda like if the Doom used the snap map system for the main game?

Feels like they've learned NOTHING from the mistakes of original game and just throwing a lot of shit nobody asked them for to begin with.
>oh, so players are saying our level design is weak? WELL LETS JUST ADD PROCEDURAL GENERATION ON TOP OF IT
>players are saying that guns feel underpowered and enemy feel like bullet sponges? WELL LETS GO FOR THE BORDERLADS-LIKE SYSTEM WITH RANDOM GUNS AND ELITE ENEMIES YOU NEED TO SHOOT FOR 30 MINUTES STRAIGHT TO KILL
>players wanted us to be closer to the spirit of original game? FUCK YOU, NOW IT HAS COOP AND LOOT

>Chainsaw isn't a glorified QTE button
>gore and dismemberment is present without pausing the game for 2 seconds every time to show it
Already miles better than D44M.

maybe not so lego-ish/block-ish but im not sure but based on gameplay it looks like it might be a seemless generation, course i might just be being a little optimistic

>le quirky asian man protagonist making crappy meme jokes

I'm pretty sure Lo Wang's lines were written as B-movie lines intentionally like Duke Nukem's, Duke's were only considered cool because he's got a badass deep voice.

Yeah, this. FWH and the other ex-Painkiller devs don't seem to understand what actually made classic FPS good. It's not "epic weapons and hordes of monsters and gore", for fuck's sake, it's enemy and weapon balance leading to every single encounter forcing you to maneuver while keeping in mind which weapon works best against which enemy.

On a side note, Painkiller's main problem wasn't even arena combat, it was the absolute lack of any distinct enemy types, it was all reskins.

Can we atleast agree that its a better reboot than D44m?

No they're both very flawed

Equally flawed?

whats with all those meme games lately

my understanding that it would only be certain aesthetic aspects of levels that would be procedural? like weather, or one of two ways being blocked (but ultimately leading to the same place as the blocked path)

SW2 is clearly a worse fps and that's what matters most.

I'm not sure if we can really call that "procedural". Procedural is supposed to be like, infinite possibilities.

oh ok ill just buy doom instead of this piece of shit

the gameplay seems to imply that this game is less of an arena-based thing, is that the case?

I kinda got bored of the first one, when I realised that 95% of encounters were
>you are now locked in this big room and have to kill a million things to progress

doom 2016 suffers from the same problem, but it didn't overstay it's welcome as much as SW reboot did, and it felt like the doom 2016 "arena's" were better designed, whereas SW just had big empty rooms

Did they even officially use that word? Random is probably better

Pretty much.
It's not some Minecraft shit where the entire level gets randomly generated but just some set-pieces getting rearranged (they explained it with an area that would generally be the same but one time having a temple in the middle and the next time a large mine instead), pre-made areas getting mixed around and enemies switching positions.

News outlets used it.
The devs in the Gamescom footage even outright denied that it's PG and instead called it randomized.

Doom 2016 had some good level design sometimes, thanks to the double jump.

Yeah that sounds about right. Is multiplayer just going to be co-op or have they ever mentioned DM or anything else of that nature?

yeah, I can distinctly remember most of the Doom 2016 arena's, but when I think back to SW, most of it is just an outdoors garden area, with a pointless water feature....also warehouses if you weren't outside

seems fun
its played with a controller but probably PC version

I liked ancient japanese architectures in SW (just for the art style, not level design itself) but the warehouse levels were boring garbage.

Hopefully, SW2 seems to have the exact same double jump than Doom.

Why are the Ninjas wearing fucking gasmasks

completely agree, I think that's what killed my interest

the industrial area's were really boring, and after a certain point, they became the primary terrain
I'll probably forget things, but this is what I remember in order
>gardens
>city
>shipyard
>warehouses
>more shipyard
>warehouses IN the shipyard
>holy fuck a snow level
>oh wait I'm going indoors, time for more warehouses

IIRC, that's when I just lost interest, after the HL tram parody

you basically go back to the gardens, then go to hell towards the end to briefly kill demons with the fully upgraded nobitsura kage before fighting the final boss

Doom 4 is less flawed than SW 2013, but it's still quite flawed.

i suspect it will work like xcom2 and its parcels

>vagina chainsaw at 3:54

holy shit, now i am interested

that cyberpunk level looks neat i guess

>loads two bullets into shotgun but fired well over that amount

It is quite a feat that they managed to somehow make it even worse than SW2013.

Although the trendy "I'm an independent gamer who don't need no CoD" babies who latch onto anything to try get that """old school FPS""" cred will love it.

How'd they make it worse exactly, user? I'm curious

It could also oneshit flying niggers, which made it really useful in later levels.
This. Although I did think Shadow Warrior 2013 was very good. It was certainly a lot better than DOOM, that's for sure.

The red & cyan colour scheme makes me nauseous

I think they fail to understand that old school FPSes weren't all about arenas full of enemies. There were loads of puzzles, navigating through mazes and finding keys to open up parts of the map.

Old school FPSes weren't open world but every level felt like it was a small world which you had to fully explore to understand and to solve. Nowadays you don't even have to think at all. Just push forward, hold the trigger and shoot as many things as possible.

It's true that Painkiller's level design is mediocre but arenas themselves can be implemented very well. Serious Sam gets a lot of shit for that but it's drastically different from Painkiller due to the fact that its enemies are extremely diverse and its weapon balance is as close to perfect as FPS can get. Wave of kleers+werebulls or kleers+mechanoids already call for completely different tactics, for example.

Hell, even D44M did it quite well, though its meta is more about constantly moving than dodging projectiles.

I'd actually say D44M is very well-designed, its encounters and levels are miles better than SW remake. It actually has flow which many shooters completely forgot about, and after replaying Ultimate Doom I can actually see that D44M levels are way closer to it that you might think.

SW is pretty fun, all things considered, but its budget really shows. I actually enjoyed Hard Reset more, especially its Redux version. Juggling weapons and constantly switching off as many enemies as possible was interesting, they could really expand on that.

>its encounters and levels are miles better than SW remake
Levels yes, encounters absolutely not.

The first one was kinda good, hope this one's better.

Doesn't look like they fix any of my gripes with the original game
>melee weapons doing way more damage than guns
>terrible dialogue and one-liners
>tedious upgrades
>bullet sponge enemies

and looks like they added a few more
>Borderlands style loot
>procedurally generated parts of the level
>MMO style fetch quests

To me this looks really underwhelming but I'm probably not the target audience, judging by the retarded Youtube comments
>lmao looks like duum with ninjas xDDDD

I miss stereotypical old asian Lo Wang.
It's just not the same without I RIKE SWORD and SPRITO PERSONARITY
