What does it take for a game to be a Sup Forums "flavor-of-the-month"?

What does it take for a game to be a Sup Forums "flavor-of-the-month"?
Is it the simple gameplay like in Ace of Spades and Homerun Derby?

Pic unrelated

that's a fucked up looking penguin

:3

I showed a girl this video once

She literally burst into tears because 'nature is beautiful'

it's a capybara

She probably said that while chewing on a cheeseburger

Why doesn't the fox react at all?

waterdog wants to fuck

Man I miss playing Ace of Spades.

me too

CUTE

Did you fuck her?

It's gotta be underground enough so not a lot of people can know about it, and it's gotta be based around, or marketed as, a bare bones game that focuses on gameplay and fun

pic related was a favorite fotm for me until it just disappeared one day. I guess they're still making it or whatever but the magic from the beta seems gone

Um user did you forgot your pic?

welp

Yes, in part. Though Sup Forums is arguably a bit better than some other gaming "communities" at patiently learning games and getting gud, there's a limit to this with anything.

I'd say there need to be other criteria as well:

- must be on PC. I can't think of a single FOTM game that was a console exclusive.
- must be free (as in free beer), cheap, or easily piratable. LISA and Undertale come to mind for the second two.
- must be in-browser or a lightweight download (otherwise, will lose a large potential audience with shit connections or who don't want to clutter their computer with potential meme shit)
- must run on toasters. I'd wager that, like Steam, most of Sup Forums is posting and playing games on toasters.
- for multiplayer games: games must be easy to join with little or no time commitment, and no repercussions for just "coming and going." See agar.io, Ace of Spades. Non-example (but still played sometimes on Sup Forums: Advance Wars multiplayer).
-

I guess I didn't have a last point; please ignore the last hyphen.

Also, I agree with . If the game is shilled (or popular) elsewhere before Sup Forums, it's just going to be be hit with a wave of shitposting before becoming FOTM status. See: Overwatch. Sure, it had its run of popularity on Sup Forums, but what kept the threads alive wasn't actually people playing, but rather just shitposting.

It feels like Sup Forums hasn't had a good multiplayer flavor of the month in forever

>he wasn't here when Sonyggers swarmed this place with Bloodborne
oh boy, you missed something
it was almost as bad as Overwatch but with more longevity and smugness

That one thicc robot platformer probably qualifies as a FotM game.

That Manatee doesn't look very pleased with getting patted.

I was here. Like Overwatch, I wouldn't call it "FOTM," because it was heavily shitposted against.

I'd say that FOTM games are games that are actually played and (mostly) liked for a month or so - before fading. Overwatch and Bloodborne were (and are) played, but there is also a wave of shitposting immediately with its popularity.

Now, compare to something like Five Nights at Freddy's. Before the game became popular outside of Sup Forums, it was actually well-liked and oft-played. That makes it FOTM - even though its status as FOTM ended when its community got so large and cancerous.

And then the Brazillians found out about this game...

I miss it so much dude. Everyone knew the moment you went into one team's chat and said "hey let's work together" you'd just say the same thing to the other team. Everyone fucked each other over and everyone shittalked and it was so fucking fun.

It has to be edgey and really contrarian.

three ways
it has to be 2deep4u like Gone home or Undertale
or fun and accessible for normies and deep enough for autist like rocket league or the culling
or just pay famous streamers and lpers to pimp it like what goat simulator did

It's weird, but seals aren't that far from dogs in terms of evolutionary history.

Do you want to hop on? Lets see how the state of the game is

I would but it's now in early access and I'm not gonna buy that shit, and I doubt they're supporting that old ass beta. I'm not even sure where to find it anymore

Yeah, you're better off not buying the early access. it's total shit.

yeah I figured. shit sucks

Anime girls and easy as fuck gameplay, bonus points if socially hated and contains meme references.

Oh weird you can't even get early access anymore. I guess they're waiting until this year to do real EA or some shit

>"flavor-of-the-month"?
OVERWATCH

seals are actually closer to bears than dogs. they're technically sea bears.
