i think because the maps are quite dynamic, and the game is simple and fast, whilst feeling like there is endless tactical opportunity, depending what tools your squad has. at first i thought it was overwhelming with all the tools and loadout and planning phase and stuff, but it's all very intuitive and easy to hop into.
also its not CS fucking GO, praise be. now thats some utter trash from a dev not to be trusted.

the steam version of this game is an $30 markup shortcut to launch uplay
this is just a key for the game, activated through uplay alone
either way you buy it, you will have uplay installed and running when you want to play
the only difference is when you launch through steam it will either say "now playing rainbow six siege" or "now playing non-steam game rainbow six siege"

i really like shield guys. sometimes it's OP as fuck, when you 1-tapping heads with a pistol and no ADS. but hit detection and stuff means sometimes its sheer frustration and you get killed instantly.
