Don't handegg teams feel like shit for being sold around like this?
It's baseball, you fucking retard.
Why did Nintendo own a baseball team?
What were they doing with them?
Gaming Historian had a video about it, but it's gone. WTF.
Uh oh.
They were running them into the ground probably, just like everything else these days.
The old CEO before Iwata liked baseball
>(Video removed by user)
Wonder why.
how much did they buy it for?
Something about the fears in the 80s that the Japanese were gonna be a world power and steal all the local businesses or whatever (this was before their recession kicked in, they were an economic powerhouse until the 90s). They bought the baseball team and supported it/the local area so they'd fit in a bit better. It helped their image by showing they weren't just in America to steal jobs but to support the local area.
There's been articles written about it that explained it better, but that's mostly it I think.
Because that's what you do when you literally shit money. You buy sports teams to show everyone how massive your corporate dong is.
THIS IS NOT GOOD NEWS AT ALL FOR NINTENDO
>MLB C&D
So this will be twisted into being Nintendo fault by Sup Forums, but seriously, how is public knowledge about this a crime? Seriously.
not videogames
Previous CEO, Yamauchi, bought them to ease Nintendo into the American market because back then the world was in "JAPAN IS TAKING OVER THE WORLD" mode much like people are with Chinese today.
There was literally no reason to continue owning them in this day and age.
Nintendo paid about $100m for them in 1992.
You can issue C&Ds to whatever you want, doesn't mean shit unless a judge orders you to take it down.
I thought this happened over a year ago?
Apparently it's a licensing issue with him using MLB game footage in his video.
>handegg
>seriously using tumblr memes
I fucking hate this website
Were looking for a buyer, have finally sold.
Disney used to own Anaheim Ducks
So Nintendo's basically trying to keep themselves afloat by any means necessary?
>Barely making a profit off of Pokemon GO
>Smartphones are vastly popular than traditional handhelds
>NX will most likely be a commercial failure
Was Sam was about to break character at that moment?
Hope they use that money to make a stronger console
Isn't Pokemon GO's already dead?
oh i didnt realize we were supposed to act fucking retarded in this thread, here let me contribute as well
sony is the best and never does any wrong
>handegg is a tumblr meme
Either you're baiting me super hard or you're massively underage. People have been saying handegg for as long as I can remember.
Just stopping by this thread to let you know you're an idiot
All that money will be used to make more McDonalds toys.
They will end up making mobile games and toys as their main business. Mark my words.
>Nintendo lost $200M in just one quarter
>only gets $600M from a baseball team
They really are going to die, aren't they?
How's that third world education working out for you?
Sorry you can only remember the last two or three years then.
Sony are really floundering. The PS4 is the only profitable thing they're putting out. Just look at how disastrous their big movie for the year did thanks to Amy Pascal and Tom Rothman. If they fuck their audience again with Spiderman (which again has Amy Pascal involved with racially motivated miscasting) then there's a good chance they could be fucked for some time.
>liked
didn't he just doing "because he could"?
Also 600M seems a lot
What shithole of a country teaches kids about fucking sport teams in school?
the previous ceo was iwata
He's right though, you were so fast to say tumblr it makes no doubt who's the try hard newfag there.
>lost
not really
They only sold 45% and they still own 10%
that's because you're underage b&
>If they fuck their audience again with Spiderman (which again has Amy Pascal involved with racially motivated miscasting)
I mean, they're trying to get the MCU audience that is clamoring for any tumblr gifs they can get. So that was a smart move on their part.
>nintendo.co.jp
how can they C&D a video about nintendo owning a baseball team? Like. what is the crime here?
Let me just tell you guys, as a Washingtonian: The Mariners are garbage, one of the worst teams in the league, if I was the head of Nintendo, I would have dropped their asses years ago.
see MLB crying that footage from 10+ year old games were used without their consent.
how much is the value of those $100 today?
>Sports team
>Not just sports
He couldn't even get that right.
FUCK NORI AOKI
>when you literally shit money
I don't think you know what 'literally' means.
>Why did Nintendo own a baseball team?
To investing in them.
>What were they doing with them?
They let them do their own thing. And they likely brought in enough to pay for themselves, and likely even more.
And now they sold them for like half a billion in profit versus their investment.
They've got money in real estate and all kinds of other stuff like businesses that have absolutely nothing to do with videogames. Things like this isn't all that odd.
>The Mariners are garbage, one of the worst teams in the league
This is what people in this thread don't get but it must not be that it's obviously because Nintendo literally don't have money and are about to go bankrupt.
Probably used the money to dress the prime minister as Mario during the closure ceremony of Rio
Who the fuck bought it.
Should I start buying sport teams and sell them for 6x the price too?
They actually founded the Anaheim Ducks as a tie-in to their Mighty Ducks movie, only for the Ducks to later break off from the Disney corporation.
I was literally at a panel of his today. He said that MLB told him to take it down due to the old footage he put.
Damn. If only it will happen.
It's still #1 on both shops in every region it's released. What makes you think it's dead?
>The Mariners are garbage, one of the worst teams in the league
Nah, they're above average but never good enough to go all the way.
Yeah, I got that from him too.
It was Nintendo's fault for the M's being so shit. They let Randy, Griffey, and A-Rod walk, hired terrible GMs, and traded away good players.
>implying Japan isn't taking orders from Yamauchi's ghost
The Minority, Non-Nintendo, owners bought it.
Yup, they suck shit. My Dad is still devoted to them though. I'm glad he at least got to enjoy a little bit where the Seahawks were good.
There was a thread was here couple of days ago saying it was on #15
WHAT THE FUCK
why did nintendo own the mariners
They were never that good anyway
>tfw no more Griffey nintendo games
Read
There was a ken griffey jr game on n64.
>Ken Griffey will never be in Smash
Reminds me of that guy who posted that in every Smash 4 thread
>what is inflation
I'm still here, senpai
>inflation is literally 500 million dollardedoos
Yeah, nah
They also own the Anaheim Angels.
thats some next level nigger caricature
Sorry for your loss man
Griffey got in the hall, and I made a custom Griffey Mii for smash, so i'm happy.
I was saying 6x is incorrect they didn't make 6x
The team had a good value. Not as huge as it could have been, but still great in comparison to what they got them for.
They could have probably sold them off earlier, but point being they needed to sell them off before they lost even more value. That's the basics of any trade like this.
Do you assume that people trading stocks are about to go bankrupt whenver they sell stocks high?
like 180m or something
TIme to invest $600 million into the NX
You mean mobile games
Thoughts on his time in Cincinnati? Was his father the better athlete?
I understood it, somewhat. He wanted to be close to his family. Plus, he came back in the end. His father was good, but Griffey was the better player and athlete.
I was more mad about Randy and A-rod leaving because it was purely for the money, and the M's had money at the time.
Even if they wanted to go that route, that money is going to get cut up first.
Nah, its all business for them with no cultural or community involved. This is why American sports teams often relocate to brand new cities, whereas in other parts of the world is unthinkable and borderline suicidal.
