Bosses are immune to debuffs

>bosses are immune to debuffs

>Not playing Shin Megami Tensei, where you can debuff bosses all you want

>bosses are immune to status effects

Man fuck bosses that use dekaja/dekunda

It works in SaGa games too

Stop playing Final fantasy then.

Its sold off as a super deep JRPG with the depth of a puddle.

>boss is charging

>status effects work fine on most bosses
>including death magic h4x

>Bosses are immune to the only debuffs/status effects that are actually worth a damn

>bosses are immune to status effects
>regular enemies are too weak to bother

They only exist to hurt the player

>Boss is best girl

>machine / mech boss
>isn't immune to bleed

>FF6
This fag annoyed the ever loving shit out of me as a kid figuring it out myself but in retrospect was actually a pretty fucking awesome bonus boss. And the Gem Box was a fuckwin victory prize.

>machine / mech boss bleeds oil

bleeding oil obviously

>zombie is healed by healing spells

>Boss gets triggered by certain skills/buffs and goes into pure bullshit mode if they're used.

Oil leak nigga

>instant death moves work on boss

>machine enemy bleeds oil
>the oil is flammable

>bosses boil down to DPS races and statchecks
>there is no battle in the game that deviates from "warrior basic attacks, mage casts whichever currently does the most damage, healer heals"

>boss is immune/gets healed by physical attacks
>find out by attacking
>switch out to magic
>boss casts berserk

>defeat extremely difficult boss with a billion HP
>find out afterward that you were supposed to use an item to weaken it by 99%

>dev can't make a decent RPG

They're all just contained sandboxes with no real repercussions.

>Bosses are all vulnerable to debuffs and status effects

How come poverty doujin games have more compelling and strategic turn based combat and team building than triple A titles?

Final Fantasy isn't touted as a super deep RPG. If anything it's known for being a cinematic, story driven RPG.

>remember all of these boss scenarios
>can't remember the name of most of the jrps I've played over the years.
it just dawned on me just how much I relied on game rentals when that was still a thing. I can't remember any of the ps1/2 games I've played (for the most part).

>incredibly hard boss that's nearly impossible to kill
>you're meant to lose to progress
>if you beat boss you get a shitload of EXP and the boss congratulates you and gives you his weapon
>next game, boss returns
>find out he was holding back on you the whole time

Same here

I've spent my life playing video games and cant remember the majority of them

That's pretty much every single boss. Just don't debuff them to -3/4 or buff to +3/4 and they shouldn't cast em

>Build for sneaky shit, critical hits and thievery
>Unexpected skeleton boss
>Immune to crits
>Immune to sneak attacks
>Strong defenses against stabbing damage
>Pickpocket always fails

what game ?

Name 1 (ONE) game where this doesn't happen.

>"Use a turn to boost your damage!"
>move just barely doubles your basic attack damage
>still same miss chance
>same crit chance
>you used a turn for this

What's the point of this move!?

>Only way to get best rank is to pray death down activates in a minute because otherwise it's impossible

Literally every SMT game.

>Debuffing and hitting the boss with status effects is a viable way to beat them

>boss is immune to magic and highly resilent to physical attacks
>just hit him until he dies after hundreds of turns
>you're supposed to use magic
You shouldn't ignore NPCs.

>Game has limited duration buff items
>They actually have a profound effect on your stats.

forgot pic

I don't understand why games even use debuffs since bosses are immune and it never seems like it's worth using on enemies.

It's almost like they included them based on some RPG tradition but were ultimately only willing to allow direct damage races to be effective.

FFXIII

>Immune to debuffs
This is a sign of a shitty game if the designers couldn't even balance a game mechanic like status effects.
A single sign does not mean it's a bad game, but it's a sign that points towards bad game.

>You can be immune to the boss's moves.
>The thing you need is easily available right before the boss.

Are there any games that do this?
I know Pokemon Black/White 2 do this with the second gym being Poison-Types and you have access to Lucario and Magnemite by that point in the game who are completely immune.

Bravely Default. In the second half of the game you can be immune to almost any form of damage.

Debuffs work against bosses in Seiken Densetsu 3

Final Fantasy 8

What the fuck kind of status ailment is bleed?

Hemorrage?

This is why Square games are shit.

OH GOD THE BLOOD IT'S EVERYWHERE AAAAAA

Something like that. Typically a generic DoT effect, maybe with an added Phys Att or Phys Def debuff for flavor.

Are FF games actually like that or it's just more efficient to attack every turn? Never got far in any.

>Machine boss
>Not immune to fear/panic

>Slime Boss
>Not immune to (Limb) Bind
