What's Sup Forums's opinions on Dark Cloud 2? Do you like it or hate it, what parts didn't you like, have you even played it? I'm really curious because of fond memories I have with it as a kid.
What's Sup Forums's opinions on Dark Cloud 2? Do you like it or hate it, what parts didn't you like...
Didn't like the missables.
every boss has one photo op that you can miss
upgrade the towns one "piece" at a time as you only get heath upgrades one at a time per person.
>one potato pie will spawn and you'll miss the other
I loved it but it is SO DAMN EASY. You can beat the entire game without using a single potato pie and yes that includes the post game. Spheda was awful but an interesting concept. The sandbox building was pretty unique for it's time too. A real underrated gem just a shame it wasn't harder.
One of the best games on the PS2.
OP here,
>Heim Rada Work Shop
Ran through all three stories of the place for the upgrades.
>Spheda
>at the Volcano
>or the Sewers
still pretty mad about those
I played over 20 hours when I was a teenager. It's an interesting game, but I always felt like I was missing out on things. It's so easy to miss things you're suppose to do in JRPGs.
I've been thinking about giving it another go, but I can't get emulation to work right on my computer.
I found post game to be a bit harder, just because of the number hike.
I found the leveling system to be great for the game.
Emulation is pretty easy. Just get a PS2 bios, the ISO, and PCSX2. Get an Xbox controller and you're good to go.
The problem I'm having with emulation is that some games don't give me video or it does give me video, but it lags. My computer is decent so I'm not sure what the problem is. Only certain games give me this problem, I haven't tried Dark Could yet.
It is harder but the late game weapons are just so godly and mow down everything, not to mention it kind of feels like not enough attacks deal damage through guard which is where the easy factor comes in. They sort of had this problem with Dark Cloud 1 as well, except in DC1 they made it so enemies hit for 90 when max health was 100.
Great game, if a little long for it's own good. By the end extra chapter I was burned out already.
I would love for a 3rd game.
The PS4 port is pretty great. Some minor graphical glitches like pixels around the edges of a few character models but pretty much a crisp looking port.
The game itself is a good bag of mixed treats. You may not like treats or you may prefer one variety of treat, but if you like the decent execution of a variety of things, Dark Cloud 2 is pretty rad.

Spheda can go fuck itself sometimes. I managed to do the sewers (few levels) but gave up doing the Mount Gundor.
>every boss has one photo op that you can miss
Nah, a few bosses have them but what was irritating is that a very early game boss has one that is used in over a dozen recipes. Pretty shit design mistake either way.
One of my top 10 games of all time. Playing with a guide is essential though, especially for those fucking miss-able Scoops.
>Off course
>Off course
>Just fucking shoot it in the general direction and see where you go from there
>Single swing
why have there been three Dark Cloud 2 threads asking basically the same question in the OP over the past few days? and that's just threads that i've seen. not that i mind, i like the games. it's just kind of weird.
Decent isn't enough faggot. Especially for PS2.
Poor people (decent rigs) can only play the much older eras.
absolutely love this game, but them starting you out in the hardest zone for spheda was fucking malicious
It's on PSN flash sale so maybe that has something to do with it
THAT
MUSIC
Oh my god I forgot about that song.
Fuck spheda.
And funny frenzy, at least raising the fish stats. Most boring 7 hours of my life.
Yeah the golfing minigame was shit I thought.
fishing
>That last shot
Wat
I waited for a sequel for years. Too bad L5 doesn't care anymore.
>finny frenzy
holy shit i forgot that existed. actually, reading this thread, i forgot about scoops, too...
I loved this game as a child, is this nostalgia or was it actually good?
Dark Cloud 2 was a great game that improved a lot on its predecessor but DC1 had the better characters, weapons and atmosphere
It's still good imo, but it has its faults too. Hell, I beated chapter seven with no sweat just recently. Back in 06 I lost every time, and got there without a guide.
It is legitimately pretty good but nostalgia plays a factor too, especially with some of the more frustrating mechanics.
It's definitely worth picking up especially for the current $5 flash sale price on psn
I wanted to fuck Monica so bad back then
I vaugely remember fapping to the chick on the cover, but that was it. We never had a PS2.
>"But user, your PSX is exact same system but older! We can't get you another console that only plays the same games."
Flotsam was fucking amazing and I'm so sad he didn't have more screen time.
YEEEEEAAAHAHAHA!
Top 15 game all time for sure
Its georama is the GOAT sidegamey gameplay mechanic
Its probably the best for minigames as well, and it helps that it manages to fit them into the actual dungeon crawling
Biggest downsides were how pointlessly long dungeons got starting at the volcano, and not having a NG+
Also despite 3 playthroughs, I've never found using Monica a feasible option because the monster transformations suck, especially compared to Max's blastoise cannon gundam
I die inside every time I see what Level 5 is up to these days instead of DC3
her little flying dragon things did alright, but yeah, her monster transformations were pretty garbage. and if i remember correctly they took forever to level.
i didn't really like to use Ridepod either, the further you got in the game the worse Ridepod was. he didn't really seem to scale as well as Max and Monica's weapons and he gets pretty fragile in the later dungeons. i think i had to stop using him around the volcano.
Still the best porn.
Oh boy here we go
>train fight through bombs off a moving train while he machine guns you
It took a while but when he comes back in the final chapter it was hype as shit. And he wasn't easy either.
That's basically what the Ridepod is meant for yeah. It carries you a lot of the way through the earlier dungeons against tougher enemies that Max and Monica may struggle with but once Max and Monica get their good weapons and their HP and defenses up, they become monsters in their own right.
Monster transformation are almost entirely useless garbage despite a grind that makes Finny Frenzy look tame. A shame too, they could have been fun.
there's my (you)
>No Flash sale for Yurop
>Game costs 15 bucks
I'm seriously thinking about buying it nontheless.
I wouldn't have even minded Flotsam and Gaspard being the main antagonists instead of Griffon's baby bitch fit. Everything involving this crazy clown was just so fun.
If you like solid RPG's do it user, game is worth way more than $15. Tons of content as well.
Fun fact: Dark Cloud 2's localization was super rushed. In the English demo disc they released only a couple of months before the game came out, his name was Porcuss, which was his Japanese name. I assume they quietly changed it because it sounds a lot dumber in English than it does in Japanese.
>That music
I can just imagine the rooftop fleeing scene all over again. We need more characters like Flotsam.
Mind posting the full pic there...?
>Monster transformation are almost entirely useless garbage despite a grind that makes Finny Frenzy look tame. A shame too, they could have been fun.
>Grinded like fuck for the Rat monster thing as a kid because i love rats
>It evolved into the shitty looking pirate rat with an anchor on it's tail
>I couldn't be bothered to get the next level edgy dark rat
I wish it was better implemented
>Reach Zelmite Mines
>Have completely ignored monster transformations the entire game because they're fucking worthless
>Out of curiosity, kill a monster with Max then switch to Himarra
>Gain like 20 levels instantly
>Go to Rainbow Butterfly Woods
>Still takes 20 hits to kill anything
150+ total hours in the game
Have tried transformation once
Can still clearly remember the spinning flower for 1 damage
Monster transformation is completely worthless. Not sure how they thought it was a good idea as it was put into the game.
I liked the DC1 characters but it was really disappointing how everyone but Osmond vanished from the game as soon as you recruited them, minus maybe a single bonus scene each.
it could have been better if most of the monsters didn't have shitty stats and if they weren't IMPOSSIBLE to level.
apparently the card soldier transformation from the final dungeon is pretty good, but who thinks to use monster transformation that late in the game when you're already trained to think it's garbage?
It's one of my favorites.
I loved how they improved the shit that really grated in Dark Cloud, especially by condensing six characters into three weapons over two characters (who didn't exclusively Level Toan after figuring out his moveset was just better than everyone elses?)
My one complaint is that the more freeform georama system lead to less interesting requests from each citizen. I remember slapping together one Norune then having to redo the whole city once I knew what people preferred, like house facing east or near a certain person, while Dark Cloud 2 was more upfront with it's citizen demands and they usually needed to be met just to move the person in (Parn's purple roof).
Recruiting all the townsfolk to the train was a cool idea but ended up making Palm Brinks feel empty after a point, and the train never stayed full enough to justify having all three cars to it. I still love the hell out of the system though, hitting the theme of reclaiming the world and fitting in a mass recruitment side-game like Suikoden or Radiata Stories.
And the fucking OST, I can't get enough of it.

At the same point in the game, you'll probably have Ridepod equipped with motorcycle feet and double katanas. Monster Transformation couldn't be any less underwhelming.
Dark Cloud 2 was pretty decent, though it has several slow parts and the town building breaks the pace.
Main town hub is comfy.
>Requires a diamond, one of the rarest (before Zelmite Mine) and most useful items in the game
>Quickly becomes worthless after Moon Flower Palace, and is mediocre there
nah
>motorcycle feet
rollerskates or hover 4lyfe, fuck the buggy.
Here comes the comfy
>buying Steve's voicebox
It had zero charm compared to DC1
Yea, that's a mistake I wont make again
I bought used it once and it never saw the light of day again
Let me attem!
I don't know how I feel that I almost yelling use Topspin you idiot because I vividly remember the spheda distortion on that level and how I tried to split the trees the same exact way at first lol.
Definitely in regards to story and character depth DC1 was lacking but overall the characters were more fun and varied imo
great game
Emulate it retard.
I remember being so hype for the voicebox, equipping it, and being profoundly disappointed. But then I played Finny Frenzy for a couple hours and all was well.
Hell, I would have bought a Finny Frenzy spinoff, but I think I only enjoyed it so much because I had an uber fish.
DC2 is probably one of the only examples of streamlining being an improvement. Having so many characters in DC1 was a little tedious near the end. I only ever used Toan, Osmand, and Ruby
>Unknown, brand new company starts making games
>Dark Cloud 1 is rough around the edges but really fun
>Dark Cloud 2 fantastic with some minor mistakes
>oh man I wonder what Dark Cloud 3 will be
>they make Professor Layton
>and then Inazuma 11
>and then Yokai Watch
Only 14 years since the last installation, they've got to have a great one in the works!
Is there a legal way to play it now? I played the first and loved it to death but never had the second
Both Dark Cloud games have been ported to the PS4.
They moved on from Dark Cloud to Rogue Galaxy and then to White Knight Chronicles which were very mediocre which resulted in them forming another new JRPG IP Ni No Kuni which is better than Dark Cloud
>One of these chests needs to be avoided at all costs until a certain time or else
This is some serious bullshit.
this is the most compelling reason i can think of to go out and get a ps4
For sure they've made other games inbetween their huge handheld hits, but not another Dark Cloud. I'm sure NNK is great, but from what i've seen it isn't anywhere close to the Actraiser formula that Dark Cloud followed, and that is what I'm looking for.
fun but I hate how end-game the only weapons worth using are the ugly joke weapons (inb4 someone defends them)
that and while Steve is still worth using in a sense especially for getting around, Monica's transformations are useless from the get-go and even after all the effort to make ONE of them good, they still aren't really
Spheda is bullshit like that.
Try applying even the smallest amount of spin in the canyon area and the ball will just go fucking nuts until it finds the distortion by accident.
White Knight was total garbage. NNK is great but not the same kind of game and Studio Ghibli really carried them on that game because the mechanics were mediocore at best.
If they weren't total garbage, they could make a truly amazing DC3 with today's technology.
One of the best videogame commercials ever made.
What? What are you referring to?
The dub ruin it for me
Wasn't there a very similar PS4 teaser like this during on of the E3s?
they made Ni no Kuni and Fantasy Life, too. but i would like another Dark Cloud game with georama taking the best aspects from 1 and 2.
>Ni No Kuni is better than Dark Cloud
I disagree.
Not sure if it's been posted yet but it's on sale for $6 on the Playstation Store until Monday
White Knight Chronicles is as if they took Final Fantasy 12 and sucked out any semblence of fun and inserted a create-a-character that had no bearing on the story
What's wrong, user? Don't you like my voice?
The chests in Chapter 3 are bugged as hell.
Not only are there ones that you will miss if you don't grab them immediately, the one near the weapon shop shouldn't be opened until like chapter 6 or it causes some other terrible shit.
I don't know what's more ridiculous: the bugs, or the fact that someone figured them out.
Is this why my game crashed on the cutscene after finishing the future area in Mount Gundor? Tried to replay it a few years ago but could never progress past that.
Pretty great and probably my favorite PS2 game. Was thinking about finishing it recently.
I loved the variety of stuff you could do, from spheda to breeding fish, to town building and dungeon crawling. However, the flaws are clearly noticeable.
The mandatory dungeon clearing can get repetitive and tedious. The game is very easy to cheese with your robot. You could trial and error photograph matching to make some really OP shit (or just use gamefaqs). There are a ton of photographs and health items you can miss. You had to grind a bunch if you wanted to keep all your combat approaches viable (such as monster transformation).
The variety in areas was amazing though.
Dark Cloud is a really buggy series in general. I wish there was an article or something explaining the mechanics of them all in detail. I know there's a youtube channel but it seems to mostly explain how to perform them instead of why it happens.
>make Spheda hole
>Level Up Powder or Diamond
well this explains why i never could max out my stats in that game.
>It is possible to rename a weapon as any other weapon in the game, giving it the same base stats as the weapon it was named to. For example, using a Name-Change Ticket on a Battle Wrench to change its name to "LEGEND" or "Island King" will change it into that item (correct spelling and capitalization is required).
I wanna do a run where I get 40 medals ASAP and blow through the rest of the game with an endgame weapon
Was this actually intended? Does the item change (like the icon and model shown when equipped)? I never got to try it myself
Not that guy, but I can confirm it works, and it changes the appearance of the weapon. No idea if it was intended.
Personally I would use mine on one of the ultimate robot weapons.
Anyone with a CFW PS3 know if this game runs well in the PS2 emulator? I have my PS2 around and a capable PC to emulate it but it's easier to play on the PS3.
It was totally intended, which is why they're so expensive. The name will have brackets around it to signify you did this though
these are medals you're supposed to spend on slutty monica outfits user!
