Good thread
Funfact: Blazblue was originally going to be an RPG but they turned it into a fighting game instead.
If the gameplay is good enough, who cares?
And I'll prove myself wrong because as fun as Blazblue is, I hate most of the characters. Kill em all.
I can't stand the majority of the cast either.
Do you think they should have done a SC and bus most of the original cast? I really can't stand most outside of Hazama bantering the cast.
Speaking of SC I remember Voldo having an extensive backstory and it felt out of place next to "I just want to fight" Mitsu.
I actually regret looking into the story because there's not a single female character I don't hate. Maybe Bullet or the Murakumo because they haven't really done anything.
I wish.
Fighting games could have good plot and lore if their devs bothered getting writers to flesh out their ideas and character concepts and such instead of doing the writing themselves.
>self proclaimed fighter
>wears dress and heels
Why is this a thing?
This is not true. Mori wanted to create an RPG when he first got into the industry, but decided against it because he didn't feel to interested in the other aspects of it beyond the story. Thus, he joined ASW and made BlazBlue.
Is a thing Killer Instinct forgot, which resulted in it being a dead game, both sales and competitive wise compared to the bigger franchise like BB, SF, Tekken and GG.
Nobody cares about KI characters or world.
Every successful game has a backstory to it.
I've been replaying CSE out of nostaglia and burning through character stories so I could get to Relius/Terumi power hour was painful. I appreciated Relius torturing Makoto.
I just keep up with the wiki for CP/CF more than the games. I don't mind charachters coming back from the dead for playable sake but when the story starts bending TO retconning deaths. It's gone.
In general I think fighting games are awkward in this respect. Because in essence it's a character show. You have to show more than tell unless you have a VN like BB has for a story mode.
Tbqh the fighting scene in general could probably do with a bomb up its arse to allow more IP to take stage but not fuck up like
says.
>but when the story starts bending TO retconning deaths
Like who?
It's not even about the retconning and the likes, it's just that most of them are just so fucking dumb.
I liked Soul Caliber because they went into depth with all the character's motivations.
What's wrong with that?
So we know why a large male professional wrestler is putting a schoolgirl into a camel clutch in the middle of a classroom. Duh.
>why is this a thing?
It's not. Only autists looking for empty augment say it is
Blazblue. Retcons Nu's death. Retcons Terumi being trapped in a pocket dimension. Kokonoe can now clone/resurrect people.
That too.
I get the audience has to not know some thing but fucking hell Ragna/Noel/Jin/Tsubaki/Lichi make me want to blender my head.
Most were easy to understand too. It did a good job establishing most. The extended profiles in the gallery were nice for curious.
>Retcons Nu's death
That's a lie though. Nu fell into the Boundary, something we saw in Calamity Trigger. We already knew she didn't die since Kokonoe had fished out Hakumen who had been put in the exact same position.
By "Terumi being trapped in a pocket dimension", are you referring to when he was put in Clavis chamber? Because that was fully explained as well.
Kokonoe cloning Celica isn't "retconning" a death. It's still canon that the Celica in the past grew up to be killed by Terumi.
high heels are cute!
>Fighting Game has lore
>But only a tiny portion is actually in the game
Seriously where did everyone learn all this shit about Street Fighter?
They're just THAT GOOD.
Many older fighting games just couldn't fit one on the disc, or would've been too costly of an investment. This goes double for arcade games since people had a very limited amount of time they could play at those each time.
Comics, novels, drama CDs, stuff like that.
Nu was dug up and was pushed into Lambda though. But then Hazama *pulls* Nu out of Lambda.
It's said in CP that she was said to have dies in the cauldron but fuses with Ragna to survive and become relevant in CP.
Hakumen deletes Terumi in the pocket dimension by splitting him and Hazama up.
In CF that go "Yeah but he merged back with Hazama befire he died so he's back btw".
The point behind Kokonoe is that the fact she can do these things with Celica is gateway to essentially have an immortal cast that's never gonna move forward. BB had a chance in CP at the end to open the cast up but nope everyone comes back.
Nu wasn't "pushed into Lambda", Lambda is a different Prime Field Device. Lambda was able to channel Nu's consience because of the both of them having a connection to the Boundary, and with Lambda being extremely sensitive to the souls that were used to produce them. This only further confirmed that Nu was drowned within the Boundary, and thus it makes pretty clear sense that Izanami and co would be able to fish her up.
Hakumen doesn't "delete" Terumi, he went into the Boundary together. Takamagahara gave him temporary existance in exchange for carrying out their tasks, and since he shut them down afterwards through Nine's magic, he was able to maintain that shape and continue to dwell within Hazama. They're able to extract him with Muchourin because of that in CP. Also CF says no such thing, CF has them split up but with Relius preforming a temporary Observation since they're within the Embryo to allow him a proper shape.
I agree that it's stupid of them to bring back Celica, but that's not a retcon whatsoever. That's just them "ressurecting" a character for the sake of including them in the game. Also, it's doubtful she can even do this to everyone, since those cloned are not Observed by the Master Unit. Not only that, but clones have a limited lifespan that requires extreme Observation to even extend, something which only Amane and possibly Noel possess. Hell, you yourself said "I don't mind charachters coming back from the dead for playable sake" so I don't know what you're complaining about here.
>fighting game
>doesn't have lore
fucking virtua fighter
even virtual on and last bronx had lore
I agree
Respect the 15cm heels
Virtua Fighter has lore.
All fighting game girls should fight in high heels, unless they're some kind of karate girl like Ibuki, then it should be barefoot.
>Not liking the unique brand of insanity that is Fighting Game lore
On a very basic level, you grow attached to the characters you play and you sorta want to know where they came from, why do they fight, what do they fight, and if you're japanese, whats your blood type
Thats the best part. Look at how nuts MK is.
It's shit to make jokes about/discuss with your bros while you guys all play each other.
When you spend like months on a single character you end up creating some dumb lore in your head.
All clothing is practical in video games.
True that
>No new Soul Calibur game
>Ryu is 52 years old now
It would be wasted on a fighting game though
Look at skullgirls, all that beautiful art on a button mashing simulator
They should just release the character creation mode, I'd buy that shit fucking yesterday.
Time froze in SF3 user.
