These guys are going to hit 40 and realize they wasted 20 years of their lives on Starcraft right? I mean, what the hell kind of follow up job can you get with that? Doubt they even make that much so their savings probably isn't that high.
These guys are going to hit 40 and realize they wasted 20 years of their lives on Starcraft right? I mean...
You don't become a SC esports host unless you really fucking like SC or you have literally no other prospects.
They've probably made enough money to retire comfortably. Not lavishly, but enough to live a normal life with no need to work.
Either that, or they can move on to casting MOBAshit, which seems to be all the rage right now.
Journalism. I don't see why this experience isn't valid.
Tasteless is a hipster who think it's cool and unknown to be in korea
also takes food pictures on his instagram
Just because pro football players can't live off 100M$ savings doesn't mean pro gamers can't live off 1M$
>I talked about Starcraft from 2008 until now
>You're hired!
lol
Tasteless is a rich dudebro who is doing what he loves. He could easily have gone to law school and be making 10 times what he does now.
>they literally have to stand at the back of the room
>Hanging out with your best friend talking about video games
Sounds good to me
>implying the level of journalism nowadays isn't on par with a middle school newspaper
any experience anywhere will net you a job in journalism
The basics of hosting any tv show carry over.
>wasted their lives doing something they absolutely loved and they got paid to do it
Yeah I mean I guess they could have not wasted their lives by being fucking miserable and doing something they hated...
Are you retarded op?
Seoul is a GREAT place to live actually. It's like the standard of living in a big city with none of the draw backs of places like New York, Toronto, London.
>apartments in downtown Seoul average 950/month
>high standard of living
>homogenous society
>easy to learn written language (unlike the monstrosities of Chinese and Japanese)
>qts wanting to ride your white dick
>low crime rate
>Do something you enjoy for 20 years and get paid for it
>Wasted
Neither Tasteless or Artosis knows Korean
I don't understand how they can live there for so long and still not know
Tasteless has been doingg translations of interviews. Is he just having someone tell him in his ear piece?
Reminder:
Next match is around 6am EST.
ear piece
Wow, that's sad. How do you live in a place for 10 years and not pick up the language?
Korean written language was designed to be simple enough that peasants could pick it up. Some king realized that Chinese was a cluster fuck of a language and decided to fix it.
They'll have 20 years in broadcasting. How is that useless? Not amateur broadcasting like a self streamer either but real hired-on experience.
FLASH VS LAST IS IN 7 HOURS
Afreeca star league ro8. It'll be streamed on
twitch
.tv/gsl
The winner of this match is likely to take the tournament, be sure to watch.
I know Artosis can read Hangul and understands a little. Sometimes he points out nuances on the korean written players name.
Is there such a thing as a Korean hairdresser or has the entire industry been taken over by bowls?
You forgot killer internet speeds. Not sure about this either, but I've heard that's for free?
I assume was just fixing a typo instead of responding.
No, someone translates for him in his earpiece, Artosis has mentioned that
Yeah, I'm thinking Flash is going to go all the way. Jaedong is probably the only one who can stop Flash right now. Terran in general is just too dominant, and Flash is on top form.
What is it with Sup Forums getting butthurt over people getting paid for doing what they love? It's bizarre how Sup Forums sees streamers and esports players making money doing something they enjoy and whining that it's not a "real job"and they wasted their life.
I agree with you, but the average journalism job pays barely above the poverty line
>they only cast starcraft
>they cast in a vacuum, they have never made any connections
This is what your average Sup Forumsirgin believes
competitors make mad cash. Guys like commentators are small time and likely barely make anything.
ok, then what else do they do? at least Day9 is trying with that game company
>>they only cast starcraft
I only pay attention to BW. Have they ever casted anything else? Like LOL or DOTA?
They move over to a new game like every other e-sports caster.
Most the old quake casters from the early 2000s work for other games like CS:GO, League, and Dota.
>Wasting time doing something you enjoyed
Getting a job is about who you know. Someone who can put in a good word for you is a lot more valuable than a piece of paper in certain lines a work.
Will be relatively easy for them to find a job considering their experience and how many contacts they have.
Company I worked for for 4 years got bought out and I had 4 job offers lined up from contacts I made working over there.
> I only pay attention to BW
You mean you started watching when Afreeca league hit more than 2k viewers again?
Well here's the problem. For 10-20 years, you're quite happy. You're doing exactly what you want in your dream job. Sure it doesn't pay particularly well, but you can't think of anything else you'd rather do. Then you hit a point where the world moves on and your dream job doesn't want you anymore (or in the case of starcraft, it just fades away). You're 40 years old and now you need to get a job because you can't come close to retiring. You have no skills that will translate well into a position that people will want you for at your age. So you're forced to settle for a fairly shitty job for the next 30-40 years, slaving away and being miserable.
It's basically what happens to every Olympic athlete outside of the ones that do major pro sports or get incredibly lucky in terms of endorsements a la Phelps.
It's an "everything you do that doesn't make money or go on a resume is a waste of time" episode
>mfw
I watched it back when it was GOMTV. Stopped watching when they switched to SC2, then have come back when they started doing BW again.
>building up tones of easy cash to retire if the fad ever dies off.
Yeah what a couple of idiots
Except experience casting is pretty valuable. They could move onto the hero-based shooter scene or even another non-vidya sport.
>he thinks the Koreans are paying American casters bank for casting on streams that average less than 5000 viewers
Any YT channels that upload the best matches from Korea?
>streams that average less than 5000 viewers
GSL is hitting 10k average now bud. Not ded gaem yet
BW last night had 4k
>20 years of experience
>unable to find a job in a similar market
I don't think you've ever had a job, user. I mean, I know this is implied on Sup Forums for the most part, but your post screams it. They're very good at what they do and that coupled with their experience will carry over to another job. Plus they did what they loved doing for two decades. Your shitposting only makes you look pathetic.
GSL has all the previous matches on their twitch page.
If you mean past mages from years ago? That's totally spotty. There's a bunch of Finals since they're the most important.
the only viable esport unless you're literally on the greatest team in the world is dota 2, win one TI and you're set for life nowadays. even if you place decently you still take home six figures.
These are just random matches. The numbers will get higher for the semi-finals and finals.
And also remember, that the English online streams are a side show. Afreeca is an actual TV broadcaster and most people view these on actual tv. No clue about what their ratings are.
REPRESENT IF YOU REMEMBER THE "INCIDENT"
Fucking hell, is BW making some sort of comeback? What the hell is happening? This is insane.
10k is sc2's number.
SC2 is so bad they're filtering back.
How much money would they make per year do you think?
Until another scandal kills it again.
gtfo sc2cuck
>Afreeca is an actual TV broadcaster and most people view these on actual tv. No clue about what their ratings are.
I don't think so. I'm pretty sure they're just the korean version of twitch and the pathetic viewer numbers we see are all they have.
>wearing a suit and tie and commentating for a fucking video game
>Being professional at your job
Lel so silly XD
Day9 left artillary games weeks ago, he mentioned it in a recent mostly walking.
Just suiciding out at 50 or 60 is a perfectly reasonable life decision.
It's called the Smith & Wesson retirement plan and it's based as fuck.
Isn't stealing the time of your death from fate and deciding it yourself the ultimate power?
Reminder, Blizz forced KESPA to stop doing BW tournaments, in favor of SC2. They literally killed a successful game to make way for their own.
As such, there's still interest in BW.
>thinking playing or commentating a video game is a profession
Lel so silly silly indeed XD
but they are getting paid for it, so it's a profession by definition.
They're making more money from it and making more lasting contacts from it than someone like you who's posting in a video game thread on a Mongolian fingerpuppets website.
If they get paid well, then it's worth it. They can always work in PR.
yesterdays pvp was so fucking BORING
I still don't know what happened
PR jobs probably. I don't follow SC but if they have been doing this for 20 years if they as re not retarded they have connections and know both the public side of things well, from being on the forefront of all kinds of streams etc as well as the behind the scenes stuff.
It's all things that a good pr person needs.
pvp is the most boring match up. And Shuttle was just on a level above Jahoon.
WAIT TASTOSIS IS BACK FOR BROOD WARS GOM TV SHENANIGANS?!
WHEN DID BROODWARS MAKE A COMEBACK?!
>suicide at 60 when you can live off social security/retirement at 63
>implying there is going to be anything left of social security
>you make money from it, so it must be a profession
So drug dealing, prostitution and being a Pokemon Go Trainer are professions too. Neat.
yes that is actually how it works.
so sucking dick and taking it in the ass for money is a profession then?
sign me the fuck up
All I know about the incident is that we don't talk about it
When it comes to commentary if you're well enough known and liked personality then there's a good chance that you'll be able to make a living commentating other games if your old one dies. The smash commentators TK and EE were probably more known for their commentary of the semi-popular Brawl mod PM and now they do sm4sh just fine. Aside from that bliss still throws money at sc2 tournaments.
Yes, that's literally how it works
Oh shit Flash still plays?
Noice. I mean, I dont like SC2 but Im glad this nigga still has a job and wasnt taken over by the new blood.
BW has been making a comeback since 2015 since SC2 is such a failure. They've been casting a new tournament for a month now.
>Had a steady courier for 8+ years
>Was respected in the industry and was a face of it that practically everyone who knew about the game was familiar with
Do you have any clue how job hunting works?
Are you some kind of Blizzard shill?
Oh shit seriously? Is it just brood wars?
Why is that guys picture on the screen twice?
Porn star or whore.
One is legal and the other is some places the other is illegal.
>FlaSh
I remember when peopel genuinely thought him coming to SC2 would revolutionise the meta
>Oh shit Flash still plays?
Most of the top players still play. And Flash is incredibly young. He was like 15 in 2008 when I first saw him.
There is the GSL, a SC2 tourny, and ASL, a BW tournament going on right now with Afreeca. There are other tournaments, but Afreeca is the only one with English commentary.
For the longest time, in SC2 at least, players used to complain about the exact opposite.
Huk was huge in that. He would talk about how players get dicked on in terms of how much they make relative to a player.
nearly a decade of experience hosting televised/broadcasted live entertainment is pretty nice, actually. all they'd have to do is see how he carries himself under lots of attention like that and he'd be hired pretty easily for any kind of hosting gig.
God has returned. Rejoice, mortals.
Yeah Im a bit confused now
Flash is playing BW, not SC2? Theres still a BW scene?
Sign me the fuck UP, nigga. Im all over this shit, just last week I was watching some old matches on nevake
I believe Artosis casts Korean Heroes with Wolf every so often and one or both of Artosis and Tasteless had to cast World of Tanks too IIRC
In CSGO casters get like $50k for an appearance at a tournament
much bigger game though obviously
Prostitution is called the world's oldest profession for a reason user.
It's funny because Huk is a caster for ESL now
Absolutely fucking based holy shit.
What match? I dont remember this play
I know right?
They should have spent their days complaining on Sup Forums.
This, just look at Redeye, It has taken a couple events for the fans to accept him, but Redeye is part of every major Dota tournament now.
On the other hand Thorin cries on Twitter all the time since he can't get in on the action.
