Agreed. Opposing Force is one of the best expansions ever released, and it makes me wonder what the fuck happened to Gearbox.

Why was Blue Shift so bad?

>Extremely short
>No new weapons
>Don't even get most of the weapons that were in HL1/Opposing Force
>No new enemies
>Don't even see most of the enemies that were in HL1/OF
>Headcrabs. Headcrabs everywhere
Doesn't end with an encounter with Gman

how's black mesa? or should I just play hl source?

/thread

Black Mesa is amazing, even without xen

Just play the OG hl on gold source.

Man, my dogs are barking.

It's not fucking fair that Adrian Shephard got fucked for no reason.

Name another good game made by Gearbox Software

Borderlands
Borderlands 2
Battleborn

>tfw there was supposed to be a third party expansion for Half Life 2 called Episode 4
>similar to opposing force and blue shift it didn't follow gordons adventures but set in the same world at the same time
>It was cancelled because Valve put it on hold

has valve ever given a real answer as to why the half life series was cut short?

You must be 18 or older to post here

yep

They've never given a straight answer. Only cryptic messages.

>be 12
>portal 2 item store releases
>"valve is dead" - t. me
aaaand i was right
go me

they kept changing it over and over until they said fuck it and decided to milk the hat store instead.

>borderlands 1
solid FPS with great loot and great gunplay, also great art style
>borderlands 2
>solid FPS with "you need loot keys or DLC" loot and good gunplay + interesting characters, great art style
>battleborn
solid TF2-esque FPS shooter that failed due to Overwatch and a lot of launch issues

???????

They've never come out and given us a straight answer, but I don't think it's hard to figure out what happened. I don't think it's some big mystery.

The whole point of the "episodes" were to release shorter games more frequently. While they nailed the "shorter games" aspect, Valve struggled to release the games "more frequently" as intended. At some point, after the release of Episode 2, there were clearly some problems with Episode 3 that resulted in it being delayed. We don't know what those problems may have been, but clearly it caused the game to be delayed for such a period of time that it no longer made sense to even release Episode 3. Given the shorter length of the episodes, if they had released it, it would have almost certainly been criticized as not being worth the wait due to the shorter length of the game. As such, I doubt we'll ever see Episode 3.

Whatever ideas Valve may have had for Episode 3 will likely be rolled over into Half-Life 3, if and when they ever decide to release that game. As this user:
said however, I don't think Valve has much motivation to work on anything Half-Life at the moment, not while their largest Dota2 tournament is bringing in a $20 million prize pool
