So, when the fuck does this game get good? I'm at the Grand Archives, and I'm not having any fun at all. The game took a turn for the worse once I got to Anor Londo. I have no problem with the difficulty of the game, but it can get extremely tedious and be a hassle up the ass. Some of the biggest issues I have with this game are as follow:
>You can't warp between bonfires until after Anor Londo, and you can't even warp to every bonfire which is absolutely fucking stupid >The estus flask/kindling system is shit. I'd much rather start the game with 1 estus and having to find out more without worrying about kindling >I hate that enemies, even with shorter weapons, generally have further reach than me >Poise system doesn't seem to work >Wtf is resistance even good for? >The terrible framerate >You can't cancel your movements >RB spam and block, RB spam and block ad infinitum >Locked on camera is terrible
Honestly, I want to like this game, I really do, but it's so damn flawed and frustrating. I don't get why so many here are so vocal about it being a perfect game. It's not even deserving of a 9/10. What's worse is how Souls fans can't seem to accept any criticism for this game and will block it all out while spewing the typical "git gud" response. This game is overrated.
Souls fans are super autistic and accept any form of legitimate criticism. DaS1 fuccbois are literally worse than genwunners.
Angel Barnes
Everything is downhill after Anor Londo.
Dylan Anderson
So, should I just stop playing then? I kind of want the achievement for beating the game, even though I don't really care about achievements all that much.
Hunter Wright
Just go and beat it. The sequels basically use your suggestions (warping, estus, removes resistance, better framerate out of the box with no mods). Also Poise is fucking overtuned in DaS1 so dunno what the fuck you're on there. At least you'll be prepared for 2 and 3 where poise literally is worthless.
You can always get better at rolling though, shields become shit.
Gavin Brooks
Ahh so you care about achievements? That explains it. Maybe you should try a different game.
Connor White
If you don't enjoy it so far, stop playing, what the hell?
The gameplay is about patience and paying attention. There is no warping because you are forced to learn the level design. The game arguably gets worse because you can warp and the devs don't have to design the levels with a certain interconnectivity in mind. Same reason you cannot cancel moves, because you should be commited to an action and only do something when you actually think it is the right thing, rathern than blindly hammering the button.
Some of your complaints are valid, but the game in general seems to not be your thing. Just drop it then.
Ayden Walker
You should play Dark Souls II, OP. It's much better than the first, despite what nostalgiafags will say. III is just 1.5 and removes all the good new features that II introduced.
Caleb Cooper
Play Scholar of the First Sin it's the better game :^)
No seriously, if you want tons of bonfire warps, estus shards, canceling, and 60 frames it seems like you'd enjoy DS2. The enemies will still gang rape you if you have problems with Dark Souls though.
Landon Young
I would like to. From what I've seen on Sup Forums, Souls fans seem to have a massive hard on when it comes to hating Dark Souls 2. Is it really that bad or is it just nostalgia wankfuckery?
Nolan Phillips
>worrying about kindling what? You don't even need to kindle most bonfires, and one kindling gets you FIVE more estus, why are you worried?
Blake Flores
I have nothing wrong with people who don't like this game, but you genuinely sound like a tool
Alexander Perry
Dark Souls 2 has worse level design than DS1, and its idea of difficulty seems to come more from putting a lot of weaker enemies in one place or giving enemies infinite stamina, rather than level design. It did some things right by the virtue of being a sequel being able to improve upon what its predecessor did, but generally it's less tightly designed.
Still a good game. Just disappointing after DaS1.

>>Locked on camera is terrible
Don't ever use lock on camera. Entire game can be played without it. They should just phase it out.
>I hate that enemies, even with shorter weapons, generally have further reach than me
Get good.
>Poise system doesn't seem to work
it does.
>You can't warp between bonfires until after Anor Londo, and you can't even warp to every bonfire which is absolutely fucking stupid
Warping is bad. Inter-linking the world and giving you shortcuts is way better. There should be no warping.
>The estus flask/kindling system is shit. I'd much rather start the game with 1 estus and having to find out more without worrying about kindling
estus system is great. Kindling is about resource spending.
>You can't cancel your movements
pretty sure rolling can.
Austin Cox
Congratulations, OP. You fell for the meme.
Hunter Bell
Was there a sale? Usually these retards come out of the woodwork when there's a sale.
>I don't get the appeal of the game >Capra demon is impossible
etc.
Ethan Morris
>Warping is bad. Inter-linking the world and giving you shortcuts is way better. There should be no warping.
i disagree here. Interlinking the world and providing tons of shortcuts IS great, but warping isn't inherently bad.
in fact, i think that DS1 is the game that could have benefited the most from including some kind of warp system, even if it was just a "one way" warp back to firelink via an item (either unlimited use or farmed item). Having half of the important NPCs park themselves at Firelink and the other half stay put at random places around the world is just a giant hassle for how much you actually have to utilize them.
We don't have to go full DS2/DS3 with warping (with every bonfire within 10 feet of each other and the ability to warp to every single one of them), but giving the player a chance to earn an item that makes traveling through the same areas over and over again for minute reasons (like weapon/armor upgrades or turning in items to complete quests) shouldn't be dismissed so quickly.

>Poise system doesn't seem to work nigger what?
>The terrible framerate you're the biggest retard for not using dsfix
>You can't cancel your movements ya it's called punishing you for spamming moves
>RB spam and block, RB spam and block ad infinitum You can choose how you want to play the game, you don't have to do that dumby.
other complaints are fair.
Camden Brown
>Relying on a mod to make a game playable DaS1 babbies, everyone.

When it comes to console devs making ports vs modders fixing console ports, it's obvious which is more reliable.
Adrian Scott
if it exists why wouldnt you use it
Christian Peterson
>>Poise system doesn't seem to work How would you know? You mentionned the Grand Archives instead of the Duke's Archive, so you must have experienced DaS3's "super duper functional" poise system.
Jaxon Stewart
if you've gotten more than halfway into the game, which is sens-anor londo, and you dont like it... then you just dont like the game dude.
Ethan Reed
>You can't warp between bonfires until after Anor Londo, and you can't even warp to every bonfire which is absolutely fucking stupid Good thing, improves atmosphere, rewards exploration, requires good map design. >The estus flask/kindling system is shit. I'd much rather start the game with 1 estus and having to find out more without worrying about kindling I'm neutral on this one, but explain why is it so bad? >I hate that enemies, even with shorter weapons, generally have further reach than me Use longer weapon and get good. >Poise system doesn't seem to work Works just fine, what did you mean by this? >Wtf is resistance even good for? Nothing, this is legitimate criticism. >The terrible framerate True, but can be fixed. >You can't cancel your movements Good thing, improves combat system, otherwise it would be too easy and random. >RB spam and block, RB spam and block ad infinitum Don't use shields. >Locked on camera is terrible How?
Elijah Foster
I mean, I like the concept, atmosphere and basic mechanics of the game, but all of its flaws are weighing it down for me. It seems to be generally agreed that the game goes down hill after Anor Londo. Maybe I'll just set the game aside and pick it up later? Idk, it's like all the fun went away.
Caleb Smith
If you dont use DSfix you're going to have a bad time.
Austin Perez
I hate the lock on camera. They should be phased out of souls games entirely.
You move relative to the enemy, which is worse than just moving in whatever direction you need to. The camera gets really awkward in some situations. And it's not needed. You can play almost all enemies without it.
Noah Davis
>You can't warp between bonfires until after Anor Londo Shortcuts would be meaningless if you could warp around everywhere and the overall level design and sense of exploration would suffer for it. I can understand why it exists late game, just because there is so much ground to cover. >The estus flask/kindling system is shit You don't have to kindle fires, you should be able to do most everything with 5 flasks, using any more than that is up to you. >I hate that enemies, even with shorter weapons, generally have further reach than me This isn't an issue, the enemies can be dealt with from a gameplay perspective just fine. >Poise system doesn't seem to work It does, you just seem to be stupid. >You can't cancel your movements It's called commitment, you are supposed to think through your actions, and if you fuck up you deserve to be punished for it.
Your other complaints are definately valid, and even ones I would agree with. Unfortunately, the game gets a bit worse after Anor Londo, so you will probably not enjoy that. I'd say to stick through to the end, since you are as far through it as you are, but obviously that is up to you. I'd still call the game a solid 8/10, everything included.
Joseph Hernandez
Dark souls fans answer to any criticism atleast on Sup Forums is git gud you must suck at the game. I finished the first game and i just wasnt a fan of it. Not bad by any means i just couldn't see what all the hype and praise was about.
Gavin Hill
Good thing you can switch between lock-on and free on the go. I would miss the lock-on if it wasn't there because it allows you to move sideways while still facing the enemy.
Adrian Nguyen
this thread again...
Lucas Cox
>Dark souls fans answer to any criticism atleast on Sup Forums is git gud you must suck at the game. Have you seen this very thread you are in?
Anthony Wilson
Not to any criticism. The problem is that a lot of criticism really does come from people that aren't able or willing to get better at the game.
