Indies.
All, and I mean all, Blizzard games from 2008 and onward
Bulletstorm
When someone tries to be funny without a good understand of pacing and delivery..
Most indie games do a nonstop barrage of references while elbowing you in the ribs going "Us geeky gamers, huh?
I don't play Hearthstone, but I enjoy the character banter in Overwatch. Haven't touched wow in years.
There's a treasure troves of those in adventure games:
Deponia.
Telltale's Sam & Max.
Monkey Island after the 2nd.
New King's Quest.
Etc.
I miss the hungry games and Shockmaster.
Marvel Heroes, that shitty zero-budget MMO on Steam. You could almost hear the whip cracks on the writers with the "haha, fourth wall joke about how much working on this game fucking sucks, by the way you're awesome we'll suck your dick if you buy an XP booster, [BLACK WIDOW]".
I really am tired of the cynical trend of "It's OK for us to use a cliche if we break the 4th wall and make fun of ourselves for doing it ;)"
Saints row
It's the worst kind of writing. Hell, I'd take Yugioh-tier writing over that shit any day of the week, because at least it doesn't have the subtext that the writer is either basically a slave or mentally 15 years old.
Duke Nukem
Undertale
The new King Quest is aweful.
fallout 3
...
you're spelling is awful
>Telltale's Sam & Max
Eat a dick.
And Walking Dead can go to hell for giving Telltale such a big head that they'll never touch a simple comedy like Sam & Max ever again
...
I don't think Undertale ever tries to be funny. It tries to be "charming" and "cute", and that's where it falls on its face.
