When compared to other modern fighting game story modes it's kinda basic.
It's more or less the kind of story mode that SNK did with arcade mode in the 90s, except with CG and somewhat longer scenes.

Being arcade mode is fine, but I feel that people want both robust story and straightforward arcade mode.
And even with arcade mode, I feel that story could have more in it.
Maybe SNK should learn to pack more story in one instalment, as the last two story arcs had to be rushed to end and multiple aspects were left unused.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I do believe SNK promised an "epic" story mode and what we got was a run of the mill arcade mode so I could understand where the reviewers are coming. Besides, everything around Verse is kind of stupid since he pops out of nowhere gets beat up and explodes reviving a bunch of dead and REDACTED people.

people tend to be unable to realize that character's movesets have to change based on the game's mechanics. XIV is combo oriented and she gets alot of milage out of EX moves. she never really needed Air Venom shoot but it was nice to have.

I used to think South America and Another World would be irrelevant to the story but even them have something to do with the main antagonists(?) this time around. It also seems like Kim, Chang and Choi are going to have their own mini arc so Xanadu, Luong and DSP will likely stay around at least as cameos.
I think the only characters who might not show up in the future are Alice and Zarina. It might depend on how well received they are.
