Except it's not though, as all hunters that make a contract are transported to the same night of the hunt that already occurred a long time ago.
Everything is in place for a hunter to become a great one, but in setting the good hunter is the only one to figure this out.

There were good hunters (Eileen/Djura), but none of them was able to take down Gehrman or find the Cords. Reaching the deepest layers of chalice dungeons is an extraordinary feat as well, no other hunter ever managed to do that and stay sane.
