The only alternative is Trove, but it turned into a massive Pay 2 Win fest, can buy levels with real money and can buy end game gear with real money, the community is also really aids and the game has FPS/Stuttering issues on 90% of PCs

You can't even buy the game right now, dunno what torrents/ddls exist. The game came out 3 years ago in alpha and got all of one update to fix some bugs about a week or so after launch. It's pretty sparse on content. The dev keeps tweeting about all these changes he's made but hasn't put out a single update. Maybe when/if the game does update it will be worth checking out.

As for alternatives, I was going to mention Trove, but other posts have pretty much summed up the problems it has.

Trove started out nice, but Trion turns anything it gets it's hands on to shit. Everything is pay to win now. The entire purpose of gameplay is to pay money to collect shitty fucking dragons that make the 100+ other mounts that take ages to collect inferior in every way.

Stay as far away from Trove as possible. What little semblance of the community that remained was destroyed when it came out on steam and was released to the turboshitters.

Is it smarter to just hold off on updating the game until it's pretty much complete or just add shit whenever it's possible like most Greenlight games? I mean it's admirable that the guy is still chugging along even if he hasn't properly updated the game in a long time

People buy into early access under the idea that they'll continually be getting updates, broken or not, so that they can voice their opinions to the developer.
Except with cubeworld which you bought a 10% finished unbalanced game for full price with the promise of a complete one in like 5 years.
This isn't how things work, it's like buying the handle of a gun with the seller telling you "hey i'll give you the rest in half a decade"

To be fair, Cube World released to early access before early access was really much of a "thing"

it was still just Minecraft back then, so there wasn't a whole lot of established precedent besides it.

That said, it would have been nice if he had at least warned everybody that he'd go radio silent for three years when he dropped early access.

His twitter says he's been updating a decent amount. A lot of okay looking stuff.

I'm not sure it excuses the fact that he went silent for a while. I mean sure he's working a lot on it now, but this should've been going on right after launch while the hype was still alive instead of now when he's trying to revive someone already 6 feet below

He went radio silent when a pirate copy of the game went live almost immediately as the game dropped for sale. Everyone pirated it and immediately realized it had absolutely nothing in it. The tears and backlash was intense, I don't blame the guy for hiding.

It's incredibly slow but he is getting stuff done. In 15 years the game will be outstanding. We can just read the 5 Berserk chapters that come out in the mean time.

Only time I fell for the early access meme, I'm really sad especially because at least other shit like Rust or Dayz get updated maybe once a year, I hope this at least releases at some point, it was neat alpha but ye I still regret my purchase, should have just torrented and wait for the full game which will probably be out in 2040.
