Honestly, there are only two that really matter. Total, there are the original 3DS and 3DS XL, with the same thing minus 3D called the 2DS, and there's the New 3DS and New 3DS XL. So for all intents and purposes the latter two are the only current ones that matter. Get one of those.

new3ds(xl) is the latest. Advantages over the regular 3ds are:
extra little stick that some games use, eg. monster hunter for the camera, sm4sh apparently
snes vc
some games run better i've heard, definitely not all, i think it's only ones specifically made to take advantage of it. I think like hyrule warriors runs crap on regular 3ds and is fine on new 3ds
has one exclusive currently in xenoblade chronicles
3d is better due to camera face tracking to adjust it
And yeah Pokemon sun and moon are coming out in mid november, looking pretty dam good too

$150 is about how much a standard old 3DS goes for. The n3DS XL is somewhere around $170-200 depending on where you get it from.
