Kirby.

Now kys.

Fox

I was thinking about it. It's fun to try your best with bad characters, you know?

Do you want to play competitively or do you want to have fun?

Fox
Ganon

Pick the character you like the most, a character from your favorite game, or a character you enjoy playing as

I'd like to have fun playing competitively.

How old is that tier list?

shiek
she's not good because she can do fancy shit(even if she does), she's good because she's good

Falco

Samus tbqh.

That doesn't even make sense, that applies to literally all the characters who are good. Nobody is good just because they're stylish.
Like 3+ years old, so decently outdated. It's also retarded because of how big the "S" tier is in it. Completely misses the point of an S tier

Link to a better one?

It still has faults (SS shouldn't be a tier), but the pecking order is fairly accurate. Anything below Luigi is extremely questionable for viability

Marth or Falco

Dr. Mario for joke games or non-serious friendlies

Cool, thanks. I heard Falco is good for beginners, maybe I'll learn him.
I like playing as Young Link, it's a shame he's so bad for competitive play.
I also love watching Fox and Falco play at high levels, but it seems like they have a high execution skill requirement.

After Wizzy, N0ne, and S2J's results, is there any argument for Falcon below Icies now? Hell, I could even see an argument for Falcon above Peach.

Also, Dr. Mario should be below Yoshi and Luigi.

A rational person would try out all the characters and pick the one they like best, but I guess that's too complicated for you. I don't know why you keep posting this tier list, it's not even the most recent one. And even if it were, it would make more sense to just post the roster like this because the tier list ranking is irrelevant to the discussion.

>Cool, thanks. I heard Falco is good for beginners, maybe I'll learn him.

I meant to Captain Falcon here.

>I meant to Captain Falcon here.
I meant to say I meant to say Captain Falcon here here.

>I'd like to have fun playing competitively.
Captain Falcon is the only good answer here. He's a total crowd-pleaser while being fun as hell to play and highly effective as a fighter. If you don't main Captain Falcon, you're either a total tryhard (maining higher characters on the list) or an epic memester (maining lower characters on the list).

OP is a retard but let's just make this a melee thread. Anyone (who isn't too far from ontario) want to play netplay?
7a0cce7d

I'd actually say Falco is easier to learn than Falcon. Purely because Falco can cover up a lot of a new players faults with laser and shine, and his combos aren't tight on execution typically. The hardest thing about Falco is L-canceling dair consistently on shield and hit. Falcon can get exposed really easily if you're new. Predictable/bad recovery being a big one, and you need a very good neutral to get rewarded. Falco again covers up a lack of neutral with lasers.

tl;dr a bad Falco will get further than a bad Falcon. It's still preference in the end.

Capt Fab forever.

Or Doc Mario, if we're talking Melee

Whoever you're comfertable with. You will always play better with someone you like playing compared to someone you're forcing yourself to play simply because they're higher on the tier list.

kirby

Main anyone who isn't Fox

Villager or Mega Man.

I find Fox the most fun.

Enjoy carpal tunnel.

There are 26 characters in Super Smash Brothers Melee for the Nintendo Gamecube, so you have a lot of potential choices. There are a lot of factors that can influence your choice, so don’t think you have to rush it.

Personally I think the two most important things when you’re choosing a character are:
The character has to be most fun for you. This includes when you’re “playing correctly” or “playing optimally” and even when you’re losing - or getting bodied.
The game makes the most sense to you through this character

Playing optimally refers to playing the character towards their greatest strengths. Maybe it means playing defensively and not approaching more often than other characters. A common example is when players pick captain falcon, go for hard reads only (not even trying to react) and complain about his punish game being read based. you can react a few times then go for a read once you get a feel for your opponent if you don’t think you can consistently react, but this still gives you a significantly better punish game than people who only hard read.

Samus, secret OP, just takes a lot of skill

At times, people pick characters “because they’re low tier and no one is using them” but don’t have the dedication to back it up. for some people they want to prove how far they think a character can go, but for others it’s hipsterstatus (played x char cuz no one else does im so cool etc)

or “because they’re high tier and i wanna win” but the character might not suit your playstyle, so be careful

starting out, watch videos of good players playing the characters you are interested to get a feel for how the character plays. sometimes it takes a while to realize what you really want out of a character, that’s okay. play the characters you want to play even if it means switching mains a few times early on. pc chris switched mains to fox after a few years of being a top level falco and he always played a bunch of characters 5ever - initially mained ganondorf but almost all of his characters were top/high level for a long time.
it’s also dangerous to make any finalized opinions about a character when your understanding of the game is low. this is generally hard to get players to understand if they are new. i’ve had the discussion with several newer players about how they find certain characters boring because they watch them all the time. often, these players don’t even understand what they are watching because they don’t understand the game at a higher level. it’s hard to view characters objectively, but try to really think about what your characters actually actually do (not just “hey this guy did this wacky gfycat with this character so that’s all i want without considering how the character has to be played gfycat”) and if all else fails, you can ask someone about it.
Talk to a high level player to really and truly get a feel for what a character is actually about. (ie Kirbykaze, Dr. Pee Pee, Cactuar, Fly Amanita, etc. who like to help and talk and stuff)

I personally believe that you shouldn’t put too much focus in more than 3 characters at a time since you spread yourself very thin. You have to both learn the game and the characters and all their nuances and matchups and the like. However, some benefit greatly from this (pc chris, for example) so it’s up to you to decide. Having counterpick characters is always a nice bonus. Ideally you stick to only one, like umbreonmow recommends, but some people just like playing multiple characters. it does make it a lot harder for most people.

NEVER use the excuse “it’s too hard” or “x character is too technical” because you can learn anything through practice. if something is too difficult for you right now then you can iron it out with practice. If, for your end goal, you want to look like X player in a video you’ve seen, put the work in. you can do what they do in due time. “I do the best with x character” may not mean that said character suits you the best..

Be honest with yourself and what you truly want from a character.
ask yourself the right questions and try and categorize what you think and what you like.
Examples:
“I want my character to be fast”
“I like having a heavy emphasis on spacing/zoning and carefully choosing my moves”
“I like being flashy”
“I like winning trades”
“I like winning close quarters combat”
“I like controlling the ground”
“I like having long range”
“I like having a projectile”
“I like being able to have standardized punishes”
“I like having high mobility”
“I like having high mobility in the air”

EX of a thought process)
“I like marth due to his high ground speed and sikk combozz but he doesn’t have a projectile.. do i like the rest of his skillset enough to make that sacrifice?”

if you want to succeed, you may have to pick a High tier character. that’s just how character balance works, but it’s not insurmountable or impossible to win with lower tiered characters

>falcon
>not a meme character

noone can tell you whats most fun for you, you're gonna have to try everyone out and say who's the most fun for you.

Try out a bunch of different characters and find what fits your playstyle most.
I'd recommend one of the top 10, if you're completely new try out a bunch of different characters so you get used to fundamentals for different styles (different dash dances, wavedashes, aerial mobility, etc).

Maybe if you watch tournaments, you could get an idea for a character you like based on which top players you like watching.

>If you don't main Captain Falcon, you're (...) an epic memester

The only people who main Captain Falcon are epic memesters. That applies to any Smash game.

There are other characters besides marth or fox?

I like G&W, he's pretty fun. The d-tilt is great.
