Better sound track.

>what you guys would want in a game like that?
Dungeon Keeper 1

war for the overworld is alright

>Dungeon Keeper 1
So, Classic gameplay mode?

What was alright about it for you?

Seemed like a fairly faithful successor to dungeon keeper as well as frequent balancing patches in regard to multiplayer

Dungeons

It was alright, I wouldn't call it a success because the game was just overall cluttered and just wasn't a DK game.

what are other games like dungeon keeper?

Evil Genius.

Metal Gear, If you count the most recent game.

Z-levels like dwarf fortress would be nice if you can correctly implement them. also make sure you have casinos
War for the Overworld or whatever that thing was called

Keepers

>casinos
Yeah, I'll implement something similar to that.

>Keepers
Would you be so kind to link us?

Nothing, War for the Overworld already serves as perfectly serviceable DK3. So you have to make DK4 now.

Atomosphere.

>Atomosphere
What do you mean because that's very general statement?

except the dungeon keeper games were actually good

The sounds of the effects, magic, building components. The look and feel.
Most DK fans want an exact copy of DK or DK2 when it comes to style, just in modern graphics and maybe with more races, more building possibilities, more spells etc.

And had balance.

So. You want everything in DK but more? but in terms of artstyle keep everything almost the same.

What about the horrible soundtrack of DK1? I don't really like that and can easily produce something a bit more fitting.

So is War for the Overworld, it's literally the only good DK2 clone that ever existed.

DK2 good.

I don't like the game because it had very little of the original game there and sure if you haven't played the original game then you'll understand but if you want things from it then now is the time.

If you do not know that why are you making a game?
If you think you can pull it off, you should be convinced to know what this game needs better than most, and should have a ton of ideas to improve on the original yourself.

How about thinking to yourself and finding out if you really should invest time in this, instead of asking Sup Forums for advice?

play dk1 without a guide then do a 100% dk 1 if you haven't already. You will learn a lot about the series when you have fully experienced everything.

DK had a good soundtrack, IDK what you're talking about.

Track #3 and #5

I've got tons of ideas written down and even parts working but i'd like to know what people want rather than just make a game that doesn't appeal to anyone but me.

I remember a month or so ago an user was talking about making a Dungeon Keeper-like and I suggested playing Majesty for ideas. Was that you?

I'd like fighting off invaders to feel more like a raid to get through all your stuff to the end rather than just having a whole shitload of guys on the other side of the map behind a massive wall of stone who you eventually wipe out in a giant clusterfuck battle which ends the level.

You know, like building and getting better while fighting off occasional legitimately threatening attacks rather than building up and exterminating.

>Was that you?
It was, I made a lot of notes about that game.

I really do like the first game but the second game is dogshit.

As for a survival mode. I'm not entirely sure how it would be done if you remember the survival level the game had that may be a choice.

I don't mean a survival mode in the game, I meant that I'd prefer if each level didn't end in a giant battle the first time both sides meet. I'd prefer if it escalated from earlier on instead.

Also I'd like defensive dungeon stuff to be more of a focus .

It really depends on how you play dungeon keeper.

I tend to play it with inch warefare, i'll slowly push with doors and imps claiming more and more area.

And depending if they've got gems, attack their gold supply.

I tend to avoid giant battles as they can be lost, in the late games.

Joseph Anderson made a pretty good video about DK if you are interested.

Honestly, I would go for another theme. I love DK, but I imagine people would have more success by not trying to "compete" with a classic. If it's too similar to DK, people tend to compare and then ignore as an inferior clone without evaluating it on its own merrits. Make something like Evil Genius and Theme Hospital. Maybe something with a sci-fi theme.

There's an interesting idea. I'm not OP but the idea of sci-fi has just reminded me of something.

I recently watched Star Trek: First Contact, and the way that The Borg slowly take control of The Enterprise seemed like it could make for a cool game.

Or maybe the DK aesthetic could be changed. DK is very red, maybe something blue/grey could work. Lots of stone and mist?

> Training Room Cap and Arena like in DK2 to prevent abuse
> Large amount of animosities like in DK1
> Demon Spawn turning into a dragon at 10
> Casino like in DK2
> Trap selection from DK2
> Elite creatures from DK2

Tell me more.

Hopefully you don't make the walls look retarded like they do in Dungeon Keeper 2 and War for the Overworld.

Actually there is a star trek game about just that, them taking over planets and ships.

It was canned.

Elite Creatures, I haven't played much DK2.

Casinos, Gonna do something like that as getting some money back from creatures is a good thing but i'm also going to do something with it.

Traps, Alright.

More creatures like demon spawn will be ingame.

Training room already has a cap depending on its size.

Oh, And plenty of hostile neturals and keepers that's easy and planned.

How about the Nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor, but for your own main minion, who receives buffs and permadamage throughout the campaign/online?

>Nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor,
So.

You want a creature that is what your player was it were or something you bring to each level? but can be damage and buffed and debuffed and that is always?

Wouldn't that mean that you would end up with a head?

Creature variety would be nice. Dk2 suffered from too many humanoids

A monster that you always have, yes. Maybe you can only summon it late in the level, like the Reaper. When it dies, it loses an arm or a leg or something instead; but it is always the same character.

Also, don't be afraid to use different colour schemes for different areas. It doesn't all have to be brown, red and orange.

I'll keep the same colour style like for example colours need to be in mids and lows but i will experiment with that to get the widest pallet of colours.

Woops.

Anyway, Creature that's special is a little silly.

I like the idea of taking creatures from your last match into the next match, I'd like to improve on that but actually forcing you to have one isn't something i'd like to do.
