The Witcher 3 is the best PC game of all time according to PCGAMER. It's been a little over a year and it's already considered to be better than a lot of games nostalgia goggle-wearing gamers are fond of, like BG2 and Morrowind. What went right? How could a game released only last year be considered so great in such a short time? Was quality lacking for such a long time?

Too bad for undertale
thank christ
I didn't even know what Witcher was until Sup Forums spent an entire year shitposting about a downgrade for the best looking game of the year and GOTY in general.
Thanks for helping me find such a wonderful experience Sup Forums.
Definitely undeserved, they'll realize that in the following "top 100" and it'll drop by a lot.
PC gamers again proving gameplay is irrelevant.
>multiplat
>best pc game of all time
The keks write themselves
Could've been won by something a lot worse
Heh...
How the fuck do I into crafting? Is there an easy way to see if a merchant has what you're trying to craft?
>PCgamer
Pfthahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahah
yeah, pin the item recipe in the crafting menu and any item you see in a merchant's inventory will be marked for your convenience. The latest patch was a huge QoL update to the UI. It's actually better than Witcher 1's now.
artism
Could be worse. Still, I feel bad for DX1. No game has topped it so far in the sheer freedom of gameplay, but it seems more and more "gamers" join the hobby who've never heard of it.
Because despite its dozens of glaring flaws it was a work of love, unlike most of new games, and managed to do some things right with its core gameplay, unlike most old games. It had decent writing at worst, it had great music, it had all sorts of misadventures for you to get yourself into, it had the full span of well-executed tones that did not try to blend into each other but kept to their respective questlines, the overworld was gorgeous and immersive, if completely pointless, and the settlements actually looked the way medieval settlements would rather than being nonsensical half-empty mazes with bland stone textures on everything. It has most effort put into it of anything I've ever played. Even though it's not in my top 5 or maybe even top 10 I still have to respect that.
To be fair it was a pretty savage downgrade, but at least the game is not bad looking and still fantastic despite that.
It's just not fair !!!!
well deserved
Witcher 3 is probably top 10 material, I just can't see top spot. But I haven't played Blood and Wine, maybe that would change my mind. Should I?
that pic is outdated, senpai
here's the latest and final one
Both were great games imo.
>PCGamer
>top 1 is a multiplat
You can't be this cucked
>You will never experience TW1 ch2 for the first time again
It´s a better choice than Half-Life 2 at least
I don't know about top PC game ever, but it ranks as one of my favorite games in years, it was also a game to really do DLC/expansions right, something we haven't seen that recently.
>best PC game is a downgraded multiplat that wouldn't have happened without consoles
I unironically think Undertale was some sort of memorable achievement in gaming that should be remembered and honored in future top 100 lists. Regardless of how you feel about the game, it explored some interesting storytelling techniques and achieved a nearly unprecedented level of mainstream success for a one-man indie project. Minecraft still has it beat on overall recognition, of course.
The definitive version of TW3 is PC exclusive, though. A series that has PC roots topping a PC exclusive list isn't a big deal.
recency bias.
fallout 2 is still the best rpg ever made
The first baldur's gate shits all ovr that shallow garbage's face, modern journalist are paid normies and it really fucking shows
>first sony made petition as joke against pcucks supposedly begging for bloodboner on PC
>then witcher 3 gets GOTY and a real, non-joking petition is made by sonyggers begging for GOTY
you cant make this shit up
I liked Witcher 1, but I didn't like some of the levels, especially the fucking swamps. Chapter 1 was alright though a little boring, Vizima was alright, swamps sucked, Chapter 4 was pretty.
What's the problem here exactly? A game can't be a great PC game unless it's ONLY available on PC?
Consolefags need to justify their purchase of their console of choice and the only way to do that while PC exists is exclusivity, don't mind them too much.
I'm just happy consolefags also get to enjoy the awesome game that is Witcher 3, and I wish they could be happy about it too instead of using it as an excuse to shitpost.
Just finished the game it's DLC. I can understand why they decided this.
I know that GoT is popular, but it pretty much singlehandedly got Witcher 3 into the public eye. No one would of given two shits about this game if it hadn't been for GoT. No one except a small niche community cared about Witcher 1 and Witcher 2. Despite them being really cool WRPG's. Those polacks better thank God that the stars aligned in their favor for their shitty titty and dragon simulator.
i don't get what's so great about Witcher 3 though, tried playing it and the gameplay feels very outdated already
I don't mind not having excusivity, but I am bitter that TW3 had to be gutted for the fisher price game machines.
I mean I understand the reasoning, but it still sucks.
DX is my most favorite game of all times but even I wouldn't give it more than 7/10. It has too many problems, takes forever to get into gear then starts rapidly getting worse after Hong Kong. There's a strong parallel with the second half of Bloodlines, obfuscated somewhat by JC being able to simply blow up anything that slows down consumption of worthwhile content.
It the list didn't require 'worth playing today' then WoW would surely be #1
mfw
>That look Geralt gives the camera at the end of B&W
Genuinely felt sad that this will be the last time Geralt has a game, I've really enjoyed the witcher series.
How did GoT put Witcher 3 in the public eye exactly? Do you think medieval fantasy WRPGs were a niche genre before GoT? Do you think Skyrim would have been a flop had it not come out on the same year as GoT season 1?
The console version is so shit that it might as well not exist.
>consolized trash
>best PC game
Sellouts
DX would be GOAT if not for its terrible pacing
VTM:B would be GOAT if not for it being a bug-ridden mess
PS:T would be GOAT if not for its awful gameplay
Witcher 3 managed to be mediocre in a lot of ways but not have any really huge flaws, so I guess it gets GOAT.
>best PC game of all time is a console port
It´s like poetry.
If its combat didn't get dull after a few hours, I'd agree
@349423387
[You]
Probably one of the best looking games since Crysis
blah blah blah
this thread is going to be
>the same webms that are always posted of shit you can no longer reproduce
>the same pictures of people complaining about witcher senses
>people shitting on the gameplay
>someone posting something that says "witcherdrones" or something along those lines
and then the thread will 404
>console port
>witcher
>a series that started on PC
keep telling yourself that consolecukc
maybe the version before the downgrade.
but the version that got released isn't even the best looking game of it's year
>The #1 PC Game of all time is a multiplat
I'm crying
>Undertale was some sort of memorable achievement
>it explored some interesting storytelling techniques
When compared to the other 3 games you have played user?
Install the texture mod and a reshade.
>deus ex
>stalker
>fallout 2
>thief 2
>planetscape torment
>bloodlines
>and hordes of dickheads will defend their descision
I could never bring myself to go any further than the first big area.
It's another dull as dirt sandbox with shit combat.
...
Ok which game does look better that came out this year ?
Looks like Sup Forums in the top10
Word. Undertale was generic as fuck. It has literally not a single original idea. I'm so glad I didn't play it.
Elder Scrolls was a well known BRAND with Zenimax backing with billions of dollars.
Witcher was just some small polish thing with a niche community. You honestly, can't compare the two as equals.
This is like a parade of quesitonable taste, also how the hell is LoL a memorable game?
>LoL offers an endless parade of opponents who fucked my mother
Every time it feels like I'm playing against the father I never met. I get so many feels. How is any part of this not memorable?
>Best quality/angle sole shot in gaming history
>man feet
Damn
where is the full list?
also, let's post ours list. In no particular order.
Twinsen Odyssey.
Oddworld Exoddus
Unreal
Need for speed High stakes
Wolfenstein: Enemy territory
Fallout 2
Warcraft 3
Honorable mentions:
The neverhood
Time commando
America's Army
Team Fortress 2
Didn't mention games like Deus Ex because I still haven't played yet.
>where is the full list?
Posts on Friday supposedly.
>best pc game
>is a multiplat
JUST
I believe World of Warcraft and Minecraft HAVE to be in the top 5. Maybe even the rest of the top 3. Even though I've grown to hate both games.
Others in the top 10, in no particular order:
>Diablo 2
>Planescape: Torment
>Deus Ex
>Half-Life
>Fallout 2
>Counter-Strike
>Undertale
Please be bait
Should I play this? I bought this from the summer sales but havent gotten around trying this out
I would love to ask where to find them, but because Sup Forums has zero information and only shit posts, I won't even bother.
Btw. if you say ask google:
The first entry in google is normally some guy who asks the same question and got the cuck answer "ask google"
Too subtle?
Why? Why is the witcher shallow, and why is baldurs gate not? Let's get some real examples here.
Sorry PC "gamer", but even Neptunia is more enjoyable than Witcher 3: Borefest Edition
How?
I mean, I love tw3, but it's not as good as gothic 2
>americans
Oh, I see
More like the only PC game.
Same as every other game these days - Nexus.
Don't use NMM. You install the modkit then create a mods folder, all mods go in there. Then use Script Merger (also on Nexus) to merge mods as W3 doesn't have a proper mod system ala ES games.
If you're only installing the texture pack and a reshade you probably won't have to worry about merging, but theres a lot of good mods there anyways. Just make sure the version matches your version of the game or check the comments. A lot of old mods for say 1.21 would work for 1.23 for instance.
Despite plenty of room for improvement in the gameplay department (less handholding, less spammy combat, etc) it's most certainly better than most of the PC games people commonly nostalgia-jerk about (Morrowind, Portal, Half Life 2, etc).
I gotta say though a PC games list that isn't topped off by either Half Life, Planescape or Dude Sex is kind of questionable.
>PC Gamer gives top spot top a console sellout series
Half Life is garbage. The only reason it gained such popularity is the mods that came with it. There is nothing HL1 or 2 did that wasn't done better by other games at the time.
Yes or no Sup Forumsro's?
I already have DS3 and TW:3 on ps4 but now that I bought a new PC I might just end up selling them
>There is nothing HL1 [...] did that wasn't done better by other games at the time.
I'm all ears user
I like TES games but they just aren't that good without extensive modding
>just some small polish
user, it was one of Poland's national treasures. They even gave Obama a copy of Witcher 2. It isn't that small.
If it means more sales for CDPR to fund future projects I honestly couldnt give a rats ass.
Console CDPR install base are the slaves building the monuments. Imagine how much 2077 is going to sell on all platforms based on hype alone. Theyll be able to fund shit for days.
Western Games:
>story is told through straight-to-netflix quality cut-scenes featuring exposition so heavy it would make Nolan embarrassed
>gameplay consists of assembling a collection of markers and then visiting each one to collect rewards which consist of either the aforementioned cuts-cenes, the ability to visit more markers, or a +5 firesword that has 10% more critical chance and does 20% more damage to enemies that are exclusively in the 1st area which you'll never fight again
>boss fights consist of shooting/cutting down 3 ropes that hold heavy objects which then crash down upon the boss' weak spot. You do this 3 times then initiate a QTE where you finish the boss off
>women are usually repulsive
Eastern games:
>lore is conveyed through the design of the level, each locale is carefully designed to evoke certain emotions
>story is experienced through gameplay, the player explores because the areas are compelling and not because some npc lost their dog in the woods and is willing to pay you their life fortune to for you to retrieve it. cutscenes are a rare but welcome to experience to relieve the intensity of the gameplay once in a while
>your character gets stronger because you get better at the game, more familiar with the controls, better at reading enemy patterns, etc. not because the new pair of pants you picked up doubles your HP bar
>when you are rewarded with weapons/armor, they add new ways to play the game rather than increasing your damage by 10%
>bosses have varied movesets which you must become intimate with and tests your mastery of gameplay mechanics in order to progress
>goat female designs
Biggest offender of this is witcher 3. Literally turn on orange vision mode and follow red trail, mash spin+shield glyph for every encounter. Just braindead retard gameplay only casuals enjoy.
And now, Poland dominates the World
Hmm not my choice.. i still to this day blows my mind that wrpg studios cant make a action combat system worth shit. I mean combat is a big part of these types of games.. yeah world is huge, quests are good, it looks awesome but everytime you enter combat you are forced to play a literal shitty game with shitty combat... still after sooo many years while jrpg produces shit out amazing combat almost non stop while everything else is last gen.
Wtf i want my big beatiful open world rpg with final fantasy cinematic presentations ultra high saving the world from a god type stakes and actual good combat. I am waiting for this since the day this whole open world meme started.. and i am still WAITING! WHEN!? The closest is dragons dogma and probably FF15 with a non downgraded PC version. BUT WEHN!=??
I am too user. Why don't you tell us what either game did that was so amazing compared to other shooters of the day?
The engines and their modding capabilities are what made them so popular, not the games themselves. Its why Valve has no interest in doing HL3, they know fans will never be happy because of all the unwarranted hype surrounding the first 2 games.
Yeah but he'll show up a fuckton in the Ciri game.
bullshit
>story is told
>lore is conveyed
both completely different things, and TW3 trumps any game in both.
Try again
What kind of interesting storytelling techniques are you talking about?
>Witcher 3
>better than Cave Story
>better than Valkyria Chronicles
>better than Freedom Planet
>better than Undertale
>better than Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc
>better than Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
>better than Final Fantasy X HD
I don't mean to offend you here. But, a national Treasure for Poland is just a blip on the map for the world. It isn't like Poland has a large history of beautiful art like Italy or France.
>The Witcher 3
>a game devoid of all gameplay and nothing but story
>The Witness
>a game with nothing but gameplay
Is this bizarro Sup Forums? When did this place praise story so fucking much? THERE ARE NO GOOD STORIES IN GAMES. READ A BOOK.
The joke is that it actually is better than all of those games, right?
