There hasn't been anything to connect Undertale to the "shrouded in darkness" game, just that it's another game he's working on using the leftover funds from UT's kickstarter. Besides, it seems like he's tired of the hype for Undertale despite its success. Either way, threads will come because the promise of a new game, even if it is unconnected, will make people replay his previous work.

I don't think so. He had a demo out in May 2013 and the game out in September 2015. I doubt it took him 8 years working on that demo.
