I recommend a completely different kind of game. You've clearly played enough HotS to know MOBAs are cancer.
Overwatch is the current hot shit, it's extremely casual friendly but you can pour a lot of time into it if you find yourself with nothing going on all weekend.

I mean I'm ranked low plat in league and been playing for several years. I think mobas might be the kind of game you have to enjoy watching other people play a bit if you don't want to get your ass kicked for a little while. You can always just play bot games. I still do that a fair amount just when I want my win of the day or I'm sick of losing.

and idk if they reset the rating, you should look it up. I would hope they do but if your acct is any lower than like lvl 10 you could just make a new one with little difference.

altogether yeah riot games hasn't done much to make league easy to get into. They might be in the future though, they've hinted at getting rid of runes which are a resource sink that you need to play at a standard level.

Just take it slow. Pick one hero who looks cool to you and just play them nonstop. Don't even worry about courier/wards at first. Play one guy and only worry about their builds. Thats how I learned with skeleton king. Everyone starts somewhere.

And you don't have to watch esports. I know I don't find it very entertaining (it's also not even played very much like lower-skill league games, soloqueue is also a different experience to games with team communication), but it really helped me at the start to watch all the champion spotlights as I found them interesting. That and just watching any youtubers or streamers I enjoy. imaqtpie is my favorite and is really popular, scarra is pretty cool and somewhat more informative. Could always make a thread on the subreddit too.

Dota is only overwhelming if you try to take in everything at once. You'll learn what the popular heroes do in no time by just playing the game and couriers and shop become second nature if you just give yourself time to build the muscle memory. Most of the things you need to learn for Dota you'll just pick up passively as you play.
