Mass Effect 3
>The sphere wrinkles in your hands, the skin of the sphere peeling away into tears and turning into a rain of bronze that encircles you. Each droplet, each fragment that enters you, you feel a new memory stirring, a lost love, a forgotten pain, an ache of loss - and with it, comes the great pressure of regret, regret of careless actions, the regret of suffering, regret of war, regret of death, and you feel your mind begin buckling from the pressure - so MUCH, all at once, so much damage done to others... so much so an entire FORTRESS may be built from such pain. And suddenly, through the torrent of regrets, you feel the first incarnation again. His hand, invisible and weightless, is upon your shoulder, steadying you. He doesn't speak, but with his touch, you suddenly remember your name. ...and it is such a simple thing, not at all what you thought it might be, and you feel yourself suddenly comforted. In knowing your name, your true name, you know that you have gained back perhaps the most important part of yourself. In knowing your name, you know yourself, and you know, now, there is very little you cannot do.
But I play video GAMES for the GAMEplay, not the story or writing.
I love that game, but the story is pretty retarded.
Easy.
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective.
I don't know about good writing, but Metal Gear Rising was definitely memorable.
>Undertale
Who authorized this
Persona 4 :^)
Half-Life 2.
RDR had its' momments but the first 2 thirds of the game amounts to "hey do this for me and I'll help yo, whoops I wont really help much but do this and I'll help you etc"
Only Super Paper Mario has a good story, the first two ones have shitty stories.
Not saying that the writting isn't top notch, mind you.
Witcher 3. Now tell me a game that has better wiring and story than it.
I can't :(
>GOOD WRITING AND A MEMORABLE STORY
>yakuza series
>anything past 1/2
>good writing
Theyre memorable alright and its because of their terrible writing
>Cave Story
U w0t m8
Which Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is the best? I've never played them, but I've heard such good things. Which one do I start out on?
>Undertale
>Super Mystery Dungeon
No
>The sphere...the sphere
sounds off desu
you shouldn't use the subject twice so close together
>Phoenix Wright
>"We'd like to cross examine the parrot!"
Granted, the writing is entertaining and produces interesting puzzles but I don't think it's the epitome of the "Best Story" in video games
Rubber Bullets
Yume
Literally came to post these
Undertale had a nice story up until you get the True Ending.
Neutral Ending had better writing imo.
Original Deus Ex.
WOCAL

Fuck you, that part was great and is also based in real life events.
Ghost Trick
A plot point that doesn't show up until the last 75% through the game
Honestly felt gta 4 story was better than red dead
If you chose the deal ending anyway
...
See
I did.
>characters are what drive stories
>without good characters, its nearly impossible to have a strong story
>game takes the time to actually give reasons behind each character's personality and develop these characters to grow beyond their initial personality in some cases
With that alone, the game manages to get players to care about the characters, making any element of the plot involving these characters more important to the player, thus making a strong plot. It helps that elements of the game's negotiation system and some general game features are part of the plot itself. It makes it more immersive.
Explorers of Sky if you want the best story. Super if you want the best gameplay. Above all else, Gates to Infinity is the worst and you shouldn't start with that.
Super's biggest problem is probably that it starts out really slowly. The game's tutorial basically lasts several hours. Once you get out of that the game is strong, but until then you might find yourself bored. Its the most mechanically advanced and is the only game in the series where grinding isn't a feasible way to win. You have to use strategy purely.
ctrl + f doesn't work with pictures.

That's why I'm directing you to that post, idiot!

Its easier to get attached to animal characters than humans. They seem more innocent and defenseless, and are generally easier to look at as adorable. Its also easier to make such characters more expressive and exaggerated without making things look goofy.
Last of Us. If you disagree with this there is no argument against the fact that you are mentally handicapped and incapable of seeing good writing.
Hwat
>so insecure about his little ps4 movie he has to resort to insulting his potential opposition before any argument against him was even made
And that's all that needs to be said here.
Also, see picture.
I had to because of people like you who have obviously never played the game and resort to calling it a movie when that is completely asinine and just straight up wrong.
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. The worldbuilding and amazing script did wonders for presenting the setting.
s-sorry oni-chan..
...
Also, it LITERALLY is good writing. There is no way to critically look at it and say "this writing is shit" it is, from an legit critical perspective, nearly impossible
The plot is generic Hollywood schlock, fuck off.
...
I hate the reliance on items in Super. I don't think using status wands and orbs to disable everything is very fun.
>Best written characters in years
>A plot not filled with explosions, set-pieces, or invincible characters
>Fallible protagonists
>Literally hundreds of awards for being a breath of fresh air in terms of writing and storytelling
>generic Hollywood shlock
I think we know who has the shitty taste here, bud.
Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy Tactics, the entire Legacy of Kain series.
Deus Ex
Iji
Willy Wombat.
I know it looks silly but you'll be surprised. Story just blew my dick away.
based Bill is a homo Bear who's own bottom couldn't stand him so he hung himself but not before stealing his battery and leaving a nasty note.
fucking based bottom
Epic writing.
If you're calling pokemon a furry game you need to consider getting euthanized
Tales of Vesperia.
Its not about the broad strokes, you fucking dolt. Its about the details and the character interactions around those strokes that make a story nowadays. Nothing "big" is original anymore, its all in the details. And The Last of Us nails the details.
Geneforge is fucking great as well
Done
ezpz
>What a Beautiful People
I already can tell it's got shit writing.
Bioshock 1
Red Dead Redemption
The Last of Us ripped off Children of Men, big time.
Also, Left4Dead.
Search your feelings, you know it to be true.
I want to try to play Planescape Torment, but holy shit, I must be a massive dumb casual because it looks pretty intimidating and complicated.
Not to mention reading walls of character dialogue. My eyes want to glaze over just thinking about it.
Maybe I should just push through and try to enjoy it.
Only game in the franchise with decent plot and character development.
>mgs2 but not mgs3
invalidated
I am not even kidding you here, I wrote a paper about how Phoenix Wright had an amazing story and I cited the parrot as my personal highlight.
That moment perfectly conveys both Phoenix's persistence and Von Karma's overconfidence (arguably their most defining traits) in a way that no other point in the game could match. It's one of my favorite moments in a series I consistently adore.
It's goofy and wacky, but it just shows that Phoenix will do anything, even chasing a hopeless lead that will make him look like an idiot, to protect his friends.
