I don't know why this is news or surprising to anyone. I'd be actually worried if the userbase remained high or even rising for years to come. The idea sounds like a phone app bringing about the end of modern civilization.

I know it's cool to be contrarian and call things fads here on Sup Forums but come on. It's been almost two months and the game hasn't gone away yet

well, they removed hunting for pokemon. sure, you're still technically "hunting" them but you're honestly just walking around randomly and hoping you run into one. the tracking allowed you to actually go somewhere and follow the pokemon until you caught it

now that it's gone, the fun of the game is gone

That was honestly a good thing though. The hordes of fucking people was insufferable and people would come into my workplace all fucking day looking for pokemon and not buying anything.
